Hi.
My name is Anna.
I'm a zookeeper at the Lake Superior Zoo.
Here we are in our behind the scenes brown bear holding area.
It's kind of like their bedroom.
And I'm gonna be doing some animal training here today.
we do a lot of training with almost all of our animals here.
And we'll have training sessions before the zoo is open.
And so they all are, like, participating in their own husbandry.
So what I'm giving him for treats right now is grapes.
So right now, they aren't getting too much fruit because they have, very seasonal diet.
And so in the wild, bears would be eating much fruit because there's not much fruit outside right now.
So this is kind of like a special treat for him just for training purposes.
So some other things that banks can do to do some good stuff here is pretty similar to open, but specifically for looking at to their time.
behaviors.
Are important for medical reasons.
And so like I was looking at his teeth when he was opening his mouth, so that we can check if they need any dental work done.
I ask him to go up.
That's a really good way to take a look at his belly.
Cause I can take a look at his feet.
And then also, when they put their pop up, their claws kind of go through the mesh a little bit.
And so we can also trim their nails that way without having to knock them down, because obviously it's a pretty big ordeal to do that.
