I've always heard about the Tabernacle Choir and listening to them sing, watching them sing, there's this absolute joy.
(audience applauds) What I've discovered that I love the most about this event, working with these fabulous groups of people.
This is one of the highlights of my life.
- [Mack WIlberg] Let's welcome Dennis.
- The choir, the orchestra, the bells, the trumpets.
I spend a lot of time there in silence so I can look around and see the looks on their faces.
And there's just this, this palpable joy that everybody on stage and in this theater loves being there.
These volunteer musicians are known all over the world, and yet tonight they are all ours.
(audience applauds) - Honored to meet you.
- The honors mine, sir.
Receiving the invitation to be here is kinda last minute.
I knew I was going to be narrating, and then I found out I was going to be telling a story.
Had no idea the content of the story until I got here.
Prior Christmas Concert's have featured a holiday story, but this story is special.
And the challenge for me was not crying my eyes out before I got, you know, a fraction of the way through it.
Charles woke to find his family gone.
His parents, desperately poor, mired in debt.
I mean, the first paragraph deals with him being left behind at six years old.
I can't fathom that.
He pulled his car off, off the road to wrestle with God.
My favorite part of the show.
"What do you want me to do?"
He prayed.
Standing in the center of the stage with the choir behind me and the audience out there.
He surrendered.
And evoke.
Use me.
(sighs) In that moment, Charles felt God's love.
I steal myself because I have to because I have to finish the story.
Once again the shepherd was calling him, with joy he would follow.
If I don't complete this, I can't feel and I can't express the love and the pain and the joy of having come through all that pain to find the ultimate love.
Dr.
Charles Mulli.
(audience applauds and cheers) I was wondering if I was doing a movie about Dr.
Mulli.
The trailer would say, "You can watch a boy become the man he was meant to be."
I have to tell you that every time I read this.
Just sitting down and having a conversation with him, you know there is a God, and you know that he was speaking through him and was guiding him, just as God guides me.
God guided me here to do this show for reasons I still haven't figured out yet.
- This is not the end.
It is a beginning.
- I want to go to Kenya.
We decided after the first time we met, that we must, I must come to Kenya.
I've met a brother I didn't know I had and God put us in this place for a reason.
And what that will spawn Heaven only knows at this point.
It could be the story of any one of us.
Looking forward, I will not be able to unsee anything that I've seen.
That there is a God and He is good and He's there if you listen.
Be open and embrace it.
Use me.
