♪ ♪ Over my height ♪ Children all falling to pieces ♪ ♪ Blinded by life ♪ Children all falling to pieces ♪ ♪ Blinded by life (Ben playing guitar softly) Hi, I am Ben Trickey.
This is Jonathan Griffin.
That song was called "Glendalough or Chantilly."
I started writing it right before the pandemic and I finished it during.
I was going through some pretty (clears throat) intense personal stuff at the time as well.
And then the pandemic hit and it's sort of like the whole world was trapped in this sort of lethargic sadness.
And I wanted to try to transform that and those feelings into something.
Glendalough is a place in Ireland that I went to once and had a really good time.
And Chantilly is a place in France that I went to as well.
Had a good time.
Both with my late wife.
The chorus is sort of asking to go back to these places where I felt good and trying to draw the power of the experiences I had there into this song to sort of deliver me or us from this sort of stagnant melancholy that we were all in during then.
Okay, this next song is called "Alabama," because even though I live in Atlanta now, and I have for 20 years or so, I'm originally from Alabama.
So it's about relating to that, and childhood, and nature, and high school friends, and sort of everybody, and trying to be graceful.
1, 2, 3.

So that song, like I said, is about trying to age gracefully.
Trying to relate, and call out one of my high school friends, Adam, Adam Howard, and that.
and I think I wrote that song about looking back.
I think his father had just died when I wrote that song.
And I was just thinking about, you know, the pieces that we lose and getting lost up and lost, but trying to shift focus to stuff we still have, you know?
We still have our family, we're just losing parts of it.
And just how we're all in it together.
So, you know, be kind.
All right, this last song is called "I Don't Wanna Dance."
It's off my newest record.
It was written during the quarantine too.
And it's about New Mexico, it's about my late wife and it's about trying to outrun your problems.

What's going on?
I go by the name of Will Hill and this is sounds like ATL.
So I've been at it for 10 years.
I like creating, I like my freedom of expression.
I like to be able to create music.
And I think the biggest why for me is when I make music, I feel like I'm making magic.
I start with absolutely nothing, maybe a beat, but I start with a blank canvas and at the end of it I have something that's tangible, something that could be enjoyed.
And to me that's like one of the best feelings in the world.
Just to be able to like create something.
And man, when you make that song, that one that you, you know, it's something new and something refreshing, man that's like, I can't stop listening to that new song.
And it's like just one of the craziest feelings.
It's like, damn, I made this?
You know?
So that's my why.
So the second song we got is "Benz On E" little more uptempo, you know, workout type tempo.
Let's get into it.

The reason being is when I started the album out, it had a different name.
And there were a lot of different things that happened along the way that made me both simplify the album and change the name of the album.
And so there were like some things on the table, like deals and things like that.
But essentially I was like, man, I wanna put this album out by myself.
It feels right and I don't wanna wait on anybody.
So, to me building the leverage is the most important.
And so every step along the way is very important.
And that leverage and building up my catalog and being able to do everything on my own will and on my own recognizance.
To me, that is the embodiment of "No Wasted Motion."
I'm just being very efficient and getting to where you want to be and taking the necessary steps to be there.
So I got into hip hop at a very young age.
I was really, really influenced by my mom's taste in music because I was always around her.
And so she really was heavy on '70s music and like Confunction, Prince, Shaday, so many other people from that era, Earth, Wind and Fire.
And that sound really intrigued me.
And I grew up with my sister around me as well.
My older sister, she's like 13-and-a-half years older than me.
So essentially I'm hearing hip hop from her and I'm hearing these other sounds from my mom and to me it was just like really, really interesting how music is this one thing, but it's so many different types of flavors and genres within that.
And hip hop is where I landed but I think that I'm able to expand and not stay within the confines of hip hop.
And I think you'll see that over the next few things that I'm doing.

This next song that we gonna get into is "Meditation."
And "Meditation" is a song It was off my album "Bring the Bottles In" with Hollywood Cole.
And at that time that's when I was like, man, I'm really starting this rap career.
Like, this is really where I want to be.
And so at that point, to me it was pivotal and it was a song about where I wanted to be and if I look back on that now and show the growth of where I've been and what I've become, I think I'd really be happy with the results.
Yeah, we gonna get into the next song.
