I FEEL LIKE I AM SEEING ART EVERYWHERE I GO THESE DAYS.
REGINA: I HAVE NOTICED IT AND IT IS REALLY NICE BECAUSE YOU DON'’’T REALLY REALIZE HOW MUCH ART IMPACTS OUR LIVES.
SHIRLEY: ESPECIALLY BECAUSE A LOT OF ARTISTS USE THEIR TALENT TO DRAW ATTENTION TO SPECIFIC ISSUES AND WE BEGIN OUR SHOW WITH A STORY ABOUT A LOCAL PAINTER WHOSE NONPROFIT PAIRS OF ARTISTS WITH ORGANIZATIONS FOCUSED ON ANIMAL WELFARE.
♪ >> I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A LOVE FOR ANIMALS.
AND AN INTEREST IN ANIMALS BUT MY CONNECTION WITH DOGS CAME WHEN MY MOTHER WAS PASSING AWAY FROM PANCREATIC CANCER AND I ENDED UP GETTING TWO DOGS WHO WERE PUPPIES.
I WAS IN MY EARLY 20'’’S WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
I PUT A LOT OF MY EMOTIONS INTO THESE DOGS.
I WOULD NOT OF GOTTEN THROUGH THIS TIME WITHOUT THEM.
A LOT OF MY PAINTINGS WERE OF THEM AND I WOULD DO A SHOW AND PEOPLE WOULD COME IN AFTER THE SHOW AND SAY THEY LOVED THE PAINTINGS BUT THEY WANTED ME TO PAINT THEIR DOGS.
THAT IS HOW MY COMMISSIONS PICKED UP.
♪ AS AN ARTIST, MY ANIMAL -- MY WORK IS FOCUSED ON ANIMALS AND ANIMAL RELATIONSHIPS.
IT IS A NATURAL FIT FOR ME TO WORK WITH NONPROFITS THAT DEAL WITH ANIMAL RESCUE.
ONE PROJECT I HAD WITH THE CAFÉÉ IN GLEN MILLS, A NEW RESTAURANT.
WE DID 61 PAINTINGS AND PEOPLE PAID TO HAVE THEIR DOG PAINTED IN THE RESTAURANT AND THEN I GAVE 50% OF THE PROCEEDS TO RANDY WINE VALLEY AS BCA AND ALPHA BRAVO CANINE AND ALPHA BRAVO CANINE, THEY TRAIN DOGS FOR VETERANS WITH DISABILITIES.
AND THE OTHER PROJECT I JUST FINISHED WAS A COLORING BOOK FOR ALEX'’’S LEMONADE STAND.
PEOPLE DONATED A PICTURE OF THEIR DOG FOR THE BOOKS.
AND THOSE BOOKS WILL BE SOLD AND THE PROFITS WILL ALSO BENEFIT THE LEMONADE STANDS.
WITH THESE PROJECTS, ESPECIALLY DURING THE PANDEMIC, THESE WERE GOOD WAYS FOR ARTISTS TO WORK WITH NONPROFITS TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE NONPROFITS AND RAISE AWARENESS FOR THE ARTISTS.
THEY BOTH WOULD BENEFIT.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO LINK UP THESE TWO GROUPS.
THAT IS HOW THIS ALL CAME ABOUT.
♪ WHEN I TALK TO CLIENTS AND FIND OUT THEIR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEIR PET, THEIR PERSONALITIES, AND THEIR INTEREST AND I TRIED TO COMBINE ALL OF THAT INTO A PAINTING THAT GIVES AN EMOTIONAL INVESTMENT AND SENTIMENTAL INVESTMENT FOR THEM.
THE CONNECTION WE MAKE IS ALWAYS FULFILLING AT THE VERY END WHEN WE FINISH.
I HOPE TO OBVIOUSLY STAY WITH OUR MISSION OF BRINGING AWARENESS OF THE ARTIST AND THE ORGANIZATIONS AND HELPING BOTH OF THEM BENEFIT.
AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE US DO MORE EDUCATIONAL STUFF WITH THE ARTISTS.
HELPING THEM GROW AND HELPING THEM SEE DIFFERENT WAYS TO USE THEIR ART TO MAKE A LIVING.
AND HAVING THAT ABILITY TO HELP ARTISTS DO THAT WHILE HELPING THESE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS THAT NEED HELP, IT IS A WIN WIN SITUATION.

AS EQUESTRIAN OF ALTARS, THEY PERFORM GYMNASTICS AND CHOREOGRAPHED FREESTYLE EXERCISES ON THE BACK OF A MOVING HORSE.

VAULTING VISIONS CAME HERE ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO AND I BECAME THE COACH.

NOT ONLY DID I HAVE TO TRAIN HIM BUT I HAD TO TRAIN HIM TO DEAL WITH ALL OF THE MOVING AROUND THAT THEY WOULD DO ON THE BACK.
THERE IS A LOT OF DIFFERENT EQUIPMENT.
GIRTHS UNDERNEATH LIKE A REGULAR SADDLE.
THERE ARE HANDLES SO THE WALTERS COULD UTILIZE THAT AS A MOUNT.
TO BE A SUCCESSFUL VAULTER, THEY HAVE TO LEARN ALL OF THE MOVES WHICH IS COMPLICATED BY BEING ON THE HORSE.
YOU MOVE UP TO A TROT AND A CANTER.
IT REQUIRES ABOUT -- UPPER BODY STRENGTH AND CORE STRENGTH.
AT COMPETITIONS, EQUESTRIAN VAULTING, YOU HAVE A SET OF COMPULSORY'’’S WHETHER YOU ARE AT A WALK, TROT, OR A CANTER.

>> WHEN I FIRST STARTED, I WAS UNCOMFORTABLE BECAUSE I WAS NOT USED TO HORSES.
A FEW MONTHS LATER I WAS COMFORTABLE AND I FEEL LIKE I AM PART OF THE TEAM.
>> I STARTED VAULTING WHEN I WAS FIVE YEARS OLD.
MY DAUGHTER STARTED WHEN SHE WAS TWO YEARS OLD.
SHE IS NOW THREE.
IT TEACHES GIRLS SO MANY AMAZING LESSONS.
IT TEACHES THEM HOW TO LOSE IT WITH GRACE, WIND WITH SPORTSMANSHIP, HAD TO BE THERE FOR THEIR TEAMMATES, AND HOW TO BRING OUT EACH OTHER'’’S STRENGTHS AND OVERCOME OUR WEAKNESSES.

MY FAVORITE TRICK IS STANDING.

IT HAS ENABLED ME TO SHARE THE LOVE OF A HORSE WITH ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL EQUESTRIAN SPORTS THERE IS WITH ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL KINDS OF HORSES THERE ARE.
