Yesterday we told you about a CRB news report that said undocumented migrants were illegally being sold driver's licenses.
The report was based on a lawsuit by a former clerk at a licensing branch in Louisville, who says she was fired when she alerted the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet about the alleged fraud.
Today, Governor Beshear said employees involved in the alleged scheme have been fired and that the investigation remains ongoing.
So the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet regularly reviews credential applications, and during one of their their reviews, they identified a number of irregularities, and they have revoked 1985 credentials.
To our knowledge, all employees involved have been hired through a temp agency and have been terminated.
TTC immediately contacted law enforcement who are engaged in a criminal investigation, and it includes multiple offices that are both state and federal.
The revoked credentials, if used, would not work at an airport, would be flagged if pulled over at a traffic stop.
We are committed, to, to getting, all of the facts and to holding anybody who violated the law accountable.
A number of Republican state lawmakers have called for an investigation into the alleged fraud.
State Senator Jimmy Higdon, chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, said the General Assembly will take every action within our authority to correct this wrong and ensure it never happens again and quote.
