Beshear said Kentucuky's Constitution requires public funds be used for public schools.

Governor Beshear line-item vetoed part of House Bill 622 on Thursday, including the part of the bill that allows state dollars to pay for school resource officers, or SROs, at private K-12 schools. In response, Sen. Majority Floor Leader Max Wise called the decision "appalling." The bill was passed on the last day of the 2025 legislative session, so lawmakers can't override his veto.
