Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(drilling machine squeaks) - [Man] So you clear it out.
That's the only bad thing about it.
- Every year we wait until the ice is ready and this year it came pretty early actually.
And we wait till it's about seven inches.
- [Man] We pull it.
4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 inches now right here.
- And when you come out here and take our bikes and make a track.
(upbeat music) (engine revs) My boyfriend he initially started riding ice.
and I just thought it was so fun looking.
So I had a few friends that had started already riding too and we ended up getting a bike for myself and then started racing and just coming out here and having fun.
(bike engine revs) We just ride, just ride for fun.
More of like a practice and working on your technique.
(upbeat music) (engine revs) - There was a bike that was my size and they were kind of like, "You're gonna ride it today."
And I started getting really nervous but I just went for it 'cause I wanted to kind of challenge myself and just push myself to do something that I kind of didn't think I could do.
(upbeat music) (engine revs) It's really not as hard as I thought it was gonna be.
You know there's a certain level of athleticism like balance and just trusting yourself that you can do it.
The ice bikes are gonna be a little bit different.
They've got the kind of inner tire and then there's almost like a carcass you could say about old tire that goes around that one.
And there's screws that get put in it kind of different directions so when you are on the ice it grips it a lot.
(upbeat music) (engine revs) - Just pure joy.
The feeling of the ice, knowing that you can trust your tires and just throttle through it and they'll grip.
- [Man] Yeah, Kayla.
- My goal is just to keep challenging myself as a human to try new things and find new hobbies that I enjoy.
So I just would say if you're interested in it, if you're interested in anything new that you haven't done before just go try it.
You might be really surprised.
I never...
I mean five years ago I didn't think I'd be on a motorcycle but I'm glad I am.
(Kayla giggles) I mean it's something that is bad and just so fun and cool to explore and brought some really awesome people into my life.
