♪ (guitar and horns crescendo) ♪ (song ends) (audience cheering) [Joel Bute] - Well, we started as a house band for a bar.
[Jon] We were at my house.
Yeah, (chuckles) in his house [Jon] - And it was painted blue.
[Joel] - But... [Joe] - So... [Joel] An' we were playing blues, and so it seemed like a good match.
So, it just seemed like a fun name, or, like, at least okay.
Nobody hated it too bad, so... [Joe] - Eventually we started playing with horns but we didn't play often enough to have a solid horn section.
So we kinda had this revolving door of horns, hence the name.
We just call them the Rent to Own Horn section.
And, now, we have a solid section, but we've kind of kept the name because- [Joel] - We like it.
[Joe] - We like the name.
We take a song, say we're gonna do it, then Jon will take the song and make up horn parts for it.
Most of the time, he makes up his own horn solis and writes all of the charts out for 'em, and then we go out to the gig and we play 'em cold.
So, we haven't rehearsed in years, but it's kind of fun to do it that way.

Which is one of the flavors of the band, one of the characters of our band, that the horns, you're hearing a horn section that's playing stuff that you're not gonna normally hear.
[Jon] - Right.
[Jon] Yeah, the horn players like it.
They call the book maybe a medium-hard read.
They like it because it's challenging, it's not exactly typical, and we don't always play in a typical guitar keys.
We're not always in E and A and things like that.
I make sure I mix that up quite a bit.
