The main character in the story, Leah Stevens was once a star reporter, before she ruined her career beyond repair. She finds a way out when she reunites with her old roommate Emmy, and the two embark on a journey to a fresh start in rural Pennsylvania. As soon as they arrive to their destination, a woman that looks very similar to Leah is assaulted, and Emmy disappears just days later.
