Country music, to me... is the telling of the stories of my culture, the rural and the Appalachian, the bluegrass, the country and western, and the Delta blues culture of the United States of America.
Minus the terrifying elections and divisive, horrendous politics we're dealing with right now.
This is country... when country wasn't cool.

[ Cheers and applause ] We've been in a band together for almost 15 years now.
[ Cheers and applause ] And one of the things that brought us together is, you know, I grew up loving country and western music, classic country and western music.
Dolly Parton.
George Jones.
Johnny Cash.
Kenny Rogers.
And I'll tell you what, the twins, they didn't listen to any of that music.
I met them, they had Ramones tattoos all over their bodies.
Dead Milkmen, right, Phil?
And -- But they still listened to The Beach Boys and they still listened to The Beatles.
And so we got together on our love of three-part harmony, and then it took us 10 years to write a song where we actually sang three-part harmony all the way through.
So we're gonna sing you guys a song right now that tells the truth about this band, which is that at the end of the day, there is no lead singer.

[ Laughter ] Whatever it is, it's this horrendous tradition that I cannot get my head around.

[ Laughter ] [ Cheers and applause ] And I'm not gonna stand up here and lie to you about that, because I feel like so many parents, they have children and they tell you if you don't have children that you must have them and you must have many of them right away.

Once you have two, you better have six.
[ Laughter ] In my country it's that way.
And if you don't have them by the time you're 25, you're definitely gonna die alone.
And the truth about that is that that is not true.
They are jealous of your time, and having children is complicated.
[ Laughter ] It's a blessing, and, yes, it's complicated.
And so, I mean, I was put here on Earth to write songs, and so I wrote you guys a song about that and the fact that this is complicated.
