Several British generals played prominent roles during the Revolutionary War.
Thomas Gage led British forces in North America from 1763 to 1774.
William Howe relieved Gage in 1775 as Commander in Chief.
Sir Henry Clinton replaced Howe in 1778, and Charles Cornwallis was defeated at the Battle of Yorktown, effectively ending the war.
