Broad and High
Web Exclusive: Eastern Europe Meets 1920s Fashion
Clip: Season 1 Episode 14 | 57s

In the 1920s, art and fashion shared the same influences. Just as Cubism and Art Deco borrowed the geometric lines and themes of Egypt and Eastern Europe, so too did the fashion industry. Wearing ethnic and exotic motifs was believed to symbolize prosperity, modernity and worldly sophistication. Gayle Strege, curator of OSU’s Historic Costume and Textiles Collection, shows us on such dress.
