- [Serrano Robinson] So today, we're doing a project, it's called The Boat Builders Project.
We are partnering with Urban Boatbuilders out of Minneapolis.
We're connecting today to bring opportunities to the youth of Duluth.
- [Instructor] Go go go.
- So, hello, name is Serana Robinson.
I am the youth restorative program coordinator at Men As Peacemakers.
- [Serrano Robinson] We have tons of lakes in Minnesota, but I don't think too many kids actually have the opportunity to actually work on boats or work on boat building in general.
So that's what we're doing here today.
Specifically, we're making a canoe and it's a two week process.
We have two separate groups.
So after nine to twelve, we'll have a group that comes in for one to four and they'll get to actually continue on to what we're doing.
So every day you come in, there's like something new to do.
As far as, like them, liking that, I think they really enjoy it.
They enjoy like, having that leadership, being able to have us put something in their hands and say, "Hey, we trust you.".
I'm going to stand here, but I want you to do this.
I think that's really dope for them and I think that's what they enjoy the most.
I think it's a unique experience because they get to build it, and they also get to use it.
So at the end, we're actually going to go on a canoe trip, where the youth to get to be in the boat that they built.
