They're brothers, but they're not from the same litter.
Hi, I'm Micayla.
I'm the primary carnivore keeper here at the Lake Superior Zoo.
And I'm here with our brand new Canada lynx.
Bjorn and Floki.
Bjorn and Floki were born at Pittsburgh Zoo.
They've lived together almost their entire lives.
Floki edges out Bjorn by a year.
And they were recommended for transfer from the Species Survival Plan.
And that's something that we participate in.
Their natural habitat is actually in the hardwoods of Minnesota.
So they are native to up here.
Anywhere there's snowshoe hares, there's also going to be Canada lynx.
There are species of special concern in Minnesota.
They're actually quite rare to see.
So it is awesome to be able to bring a native species from up here to the zoo.
Once animals get in here, they can have a harder time adjusting.
So we like to make sure that we're spending extra time with them, or showing them that they are able to trust us, This is a fabulous time to come and visit the zoo, because, for one the large carnivores are actually super active.
All of the cats are really active right now.
And the other reason is that kids 12 and under are free to get into the zoo for the month of December, which is great.
I loved going to the zoo as a kid, The Slice from PBS North, presented by the Teberg Fund.
