(upbeat music) - As part of National Family Caregiver Month, a local event will highlight clips from PBS's upcoming documentary, "Caregiving."
Rebecca Utz joins us to discuss the film and the importance of supporting caregivers.
Hi, Rebecca.
Thanks for being here.
So, let's talk about the event first and the film.
Tell us a bit about the film.
- On November 6th, we're inviting the public to come for a screening of the PBS documentary called "Caregiving."
This film is, it follows the stories of frontline caregivers, and it shows that this is deeply meaningful work that families, neighbors, friends do for those that have disability and chronic illness in our homes, in our communities.
The film itself shows that this is a meaningful, joyful role and one that comes with a lotta sacrifice.
And we want to bring the community together to watch this film and to recognize the many caregivers in our state and across the nation that are doing this invaluable work.
- Exactly.
And I know there are about 450,000 caregivers, and as you said, it's family, friends, neighbors, and as well as paid caregivers.
So, talk about the stresses of providing care.
- So it is estimated that one in four adults are currently serving as family caregivers.
These are the unpaid healthcare warriors in our homes and communities that are doing anything from personal care assistance, complex medical care, transportation, nutrition, and everything in between.
And family caregivers are such an important part of our long-term service and support, but it's hard work, and it's work that we all do in our families.
- Definitely, and as someone who had care following a surgery, I really appreciate them.
Yeah.
Anyway, thank you so much for being here.
Thanks for doing what you're doing.
Thank you.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming event with the film "Caregiving," which is going to air on PBS, it's part of the Family Caregiving Collaborative, it will be November 3rd from six to eight at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts on the University of Utah campus.
