The original intention was I had a big batch of songs that didn't really fit in with my other band, Caution, and I was just hoping to record them and release the music, and the intention wasn't really to make a band, actually.

And so, I went and recorded that first album with my friend, Reagan Bruce.

And when we got back, put the record out, and I had been playing solo shows a bunch, and then Matt Whitson offered to play bass in the band, and he was the person that I wanted to do it with.

And I think that was the genesis of actually thinking about it as maybe like a live project as opposed to just a recording one.

There's a lot of dogs that are being bred for fighting, and just being bred in general, and then there's a lot of dogs that live outside, are chained up, and escape.

And I was just kind of constantly thinking about the dogs in relation to, like, how they relate to human life, just in that, you know, nobody has to be born and no one can determine their, you know, socioeconomic situation, or class, or anything like that.

And it was really that.

And so, all the songs were kind of written like, with the intersection of like seeing all this horrible stuff happen all the time with these animals, and then also kind of having a nice-ish life living in this house, which is very beautiful and the neighborhood's super beautiful, it's just kind of decrepit.
