Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipWell, Nevada reading week falls on the last week of February.
It is a time when many schools invite local leaders to visit, also to share their love of reading.
We caught up with Superintend at Dr. Seuss Jara on one of his many campus visit that week.
So today was a really special day for to celebrate Nevada Reading week.
We had Superintendent Jara visit our school.
Dr. Jara was reading a book to the first graders.
It's called The Day That You Begin.
I think you have this book at home.
Wow.
Well, then I picked a good book.
We've been inviting all sorts of different people throughout the district, different storytellers to really share that diversity.
They feel valued and important that these people are willing to take their time out to come talk to them and to show them that reading just doesn't happen in school.
It's not just a subject.
It's something that you take with you for the rest of your life in love.
I'm very grateful because it's cool to hear all these people read all these cool books.
My name is Rigoberto.
We just moved here from Venezuela.
Can I tell you something?
Yeah, I'm from Venezuela.
I think it's really important for leaders like that to come in and share their love of reading and their stories and their backgrounds.
So you've always liked to read?
I've always liked to read.
So what was it?
Was it a teacher in school that just kind of helped you at the beginning or your parents?
You know, just say you have to read and kind of had you built that habit.
It was more of my parents because ever since I was little, my mom always told me once I could read The World as you were reading is amazing and it could be your own little world where you can just escape and reading is really good for yourself.
In order to, like, learn things, you have to read books like, for example, nonfiction books they can help you learn about, say, The Jungle.
Irish on I'm reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
I don't have a favorite book.
I've read so many.
I can't.
Decide.
You find something you really like and then you just can't put it out.
Put it down.
Right.
My favorite subject is science.
In order to do science, you have to understand reading, because reading is a part of everything.
Read books that you want to read and read books that you can read, and sometimes you have to read books that you can't read so you can get better and better.
Reading is important because it opens students imaginations and goes.
They're able to kind of escape their world and go to different worlds, meet new people and new places.
The end and what a great visit that was.
And such smart students can't say that enough.
Well, this year theme for Nevada Reading Week was One World.
Many stories.
