(cheerful music) - Here's your chance to feast on some of the best melons in Utah for free.

Green River Melon Days is a weekend festival that offers an array of family-friendly activities and contests.

Robin Hunt joins us now to share more about the event.

Welcome, Robin.

- Hi, thank you.

- So, tell me what people can expect at this year's Melon Days.

- Well, of course, you already said it, the melon, that is the highlight of the festival.

It has been going on for 120 years.

We're celebrating our watermelon.

We're celebrating the growers who work really hard in this hot summer to produce this amazing melon.

And then as far as the activities go, we have vendor fair, we have a junior entrepreneur market, we have bounce houses, we have the parade.

The parade is definitely a huge highlight for everybody.

Thousands of people line the streets as we see different floats from our local and regional businesses, and it's just, it's a lot of fun.

- Yeah, I was on the website, and I just kept reading through the list of everything going on.

And I was like, "There's a carving competition, there's paddle boats, ponies."

It's like, "But wait, there's more."

And there's also, like, (Robin chuckles) music and concerts as well too, right?

- Yes, yes.

We do have some live music on Saturday.

And yeah, like you said, there's just a ton to do and all very family-friendly.

- Why is this something that draws and attracts large crowds year after year?

- I think what sets us apart from any other festival really is the watermelon.

We have amazing watermelon.

It's world famous for a reason.

I have people from Germany, France, Australia, I mean, people outside of the US who come for this festival every year.

- Wow, I love that.
