(upbeat music) - YWCA Utah's LeaderLuncheon celebrates women's leadership and supports domestic violence services.
Here to tell us more is Jakey Siolo, senior marketing and engagement manager.
Hi, Jakey.
- Hi, how are you?
- So I'm so glad you're here.
- Thank you.
- This is a signature event for the YWCA.
Tell us a little bit about it.
- Yeah, we're on our 36th year, so celebrating 36 years of legacy of not only honoring women in our community, but bringing thousands together to celebrate women's leadership, our collective power, but also all while raising critical funds for survivors and their families in the state of Utah.
- So I'm interested, why is domestic violence such an important issue for the YWCA?
- Yeah, I think, at its heart, it's a crucial part of our mission.
YWCA Utah has been around since 1906 serving our community, and today we service about 27% of all domestic violence services in the state of Utah.
In Utah, one in three women will experience domestic violence, and we are not seeing that statistic go down.
And so such a crucial part of our work is not only empowering women, but also empowering survivors and their children.
And that's what's such a crucial piece of our organization is our transitional housing, our emergency shelter, our Early Education Center, our Family Justice Center.
We try to create multiple opportunities for survivors to find refuge.
Not only, you know, you don't have to live in Salt Lake to stay at the YWCA, we service the whole state.
- That's incredible.
And I know that at this luncheon you present awards.
- Yes.
- Tell us about who's the kind of people that get these awards.
- Yeah, we're on our 36th year of doing our Outstanding Achievement Awards.
And so there's four individuals and one group.
We've never honored a group before, so we're super excited.
But these women are trailblazers.
They're the women we see in all facets of our community, whether it's health and wellness, business and social innovation and things like that.
- That's incredible, and I know people can purchase a table or individual tickets.
Sounds like a great event.
Thank you so much.
- Yeah, of course, thank you.
