(bright music) - The Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City continues to bring some of the world's best chamber music and musicians to Utah's capital city.
President Rudy Ruffy is here to tell us more about the organization and an upcoming concert.
Hi, Rudy.
- Good morning.
- Thank you for being on the show.
- Thank you.
- So tell us about the Chamber Music Society.
- Well, it is one of the oldest societies of this kind in the country.
It was founded in 1967, started with a boom that was the Juilliard Quartet.
Their fee was $650.
(Laura chuckles) And since then we've continued, I shouldn't say we because I wasn't part of that from the beginning, but the society has brought the best chamber music ensembles in the world.
No exception.
So this season is representative.
We've had as a start, the Marmen Quartet, winners of the Banff International Quartet Competition.
Then we had a wonderful concert at the Madeline with a mezzo soprano and a lutanist, Lea Desandre and Thomas Dunford.
And our next concert is the Goldmund Quartet from Germany.
- Wonderful, and you perform at Libby Gardner Concert Hall?
- Mostly.
Yes.
And the Madeline was an exception.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- How wonderful.
And chamber music is such a great experience for the audience 'cause they get to be up close with the musicians.
- Yes, Libby is really a wonderful venue.
The quartets or the ensembles that play there love it.
And it's one of the best venues that they can play in this country.
- Well, thank you so much for bringing such world class musicians to Salt Lake and- - Yeah, we're proud of it.
And we'd like to increase our membership, of course.
We've had trouble since Covid as people have learned to entertain themselves at home.
- Yeah, well, I think people are ready to come back into the venues and hear music in person.
So thank you so much for being here to tell us about this concert.
- You're welcome.
Yeah, thank you.
- All right.
