I'm your host, Colin O'Brady.
This season, we're venturing south to the pristine peninsula of Baja, Mexico.
People across the country have submitted why they think Survivalists can provide the breakthrough their family needs.
Taking on the challenge this week is the White family, from Raleigh, North Carolina.
- My name is Kyla White.
I'm 17 years old.
These last few years have been tough on me mentally, physically, emotionally.
It's contributing to arguments with my entire family, specifically with my sister Kalissa.
I would really love to gain our family dynamic and relationships back.
Colin: And the Pettit family, from Mesa, Arizona.
Alex: My name is Alex and I'm 19 years old.
I recently moved out of my parents' house, and the changes have been really hard on my family-- especially my younger sister, Hannah.
She feels that I'm abandoning her.
I wanna show my family they can always trust and count on me.
Colin: These families will have to dig deeper physically... Woman 1: Just really trying to finish as a family and... I don't know if I can do it.

We are not an outdoors family at all.
So this is definitely gonna be an adventure for us.
I'm just super excited to go on this journey with all of them.
We have a really large family.
We have 16 kids total.
Our family was built through adoption, and a lot of times from adoption there comes past traumas and, you know, scars, and so, I hope that we work a lot of those out.
I'm really hoping that this journey brings us all together and shows that we can make it through anything together no matter where we are in life.
- Alex, I hear from your plea there's some big changes in your life right now.
- I recently moved out about two months ago.
I-It’s been difficult.
It was like, it was like a shock, you know?
- How is it feeling to leave your sister, Hannah, kinda behind, uh, she’s still living in the family?
Alex: It’s been hard ‘cause we were always able to be, like, right there.
I grew up in foster care all my life.
The person that’s always been closest to me was Hannah.
I’ve known her since she was crawling.
We bounced around from home to home together.
When I was 12 years old, we had got adopted together.
Hannah’s been that one person that’s always been there for me.
- Hannah, for you?
Your older brother, used to having him all around, now he’s not there.
How does that feel for you?
- It was really hard.
It still is kinda hard to this day.
The foster care system wasn’t, wasn’t easy.
There wasn’t a ton of people that, like, were always there for you.
But, Alex-- he always cared for me.
He was like the older, big brother.
We were so close, and kind of before he moved out, we were kinda going through, like, a little bit of, like, arguing and stuff.
After he graduated he pushed himself away from me and kind of all of my family.
- For Hannah, it-it hurt.
And I want her to know that just ‘cause I moved out doesn’t mean I’m not gonna be there for her.
Colin: And Hannah, are you gonna have to look out for your brother, or is he gonna be the one looking out for you?
- I think he’s gonna be looking out for me.
- Fantastic.
Well, I’m so happy you guys are here.
I’m gonna talk to the White family now.
White family, welcome!
All: Thank you!
- Kyla, you said in your plea that it’s been a difficult couple years.

She’ll be on it for hours at a time and we’re all in the same room together and we haven’t spoken once.
Me and my brother are like, hey, wanna do something with us?
And then she’s like, sure!
And then she goes back to her phone.
What makes it really sad is that we only have, like, three more months left of school before she leaves, and she’s using it spending time, like, on the phone with somebody else.
I’m excited to, you know, grow connections with my sister and get closer.
- Great opportunity to be really present.
Kalissa: Yes!
Colin: Bronson, you’re clearly, at least at this point, the smallest of the group.
What’s your biggest fear in being out here?

White family: [laughs] - I wish I could say they weren’t out here, but, uh... keep your eyes peeled.
Colin and White family: [laugh] - I love hearing from both families 'cause you both clearly have such an important, familial reason for being out here.
I hope you really take the time this week to have those hard conversations and come out the other side stronger than ever.

Alex: What?
Bryce: No!

Crystal: I'm proud that we, like, finished as a family.
- We all overcame something up here, and we left nothing behind.
Alex: It would have been nice to win, I feel like... finishing together is the win.
- I know in your plea you said, I want my sister to know that I'm there for her always no matter what.
Do you have anything specific you wanna say to you sister Hannah?
Alex: Uh, I'm really proud of you, and that last charge up here was definitely one of my favorite sights to see.
Made me see her in a different light to see her be that warrior trekking through this hot desert and how strong she is on her own.
It was just an amazing feeling.
I'm proud of you for that.
Colin: How does it feel to hear him say that to you?
- It feels really good.
This experience has made me closer to Alex.
Some of the stuff he said to me I didn't even know was going on.
I'm really happy we had that talk so I could better understand where he was coming from.
Crystal: To see them push through and to see them just overcome their own challenges and their self worth, it was just incredible.
Prior to coming into this, I was really worried with all the changes in our lives on what our family was gonna look like.
I now view change as not a bad thing.
Change is good; we're supposed to evolve as people and we're supposed to grow.
No matter what we're going through in life, we all got each other's backs and we can do anything as long as we're together and we have that solid rock.
Just because it looks different, it's still just as beautiful.
