- [Presenter 2] The Chicago River I think one way we can put it is probably the city's toilet.
- [Presenter 3] We have to do something about this.
It was essential.
- [Presenter 4] Without the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, there probably would be no modern civil rights movement.
- [Presenter 5] Chicago became the melting pot of candy.
- [Presenter 6] Cleaning the streets of Chicago, trying to improve the world.
- [Presenter 7] There's no one cooler than Jane Addams.
- [Presenter 8] You go off to school one day, happy as a kid could be, and then tragedy hits you.
- [Presenter 9] There was flames in the room already, and that's when I thought, "I gotta get outta here."
- [Presenter 10] Sears himself was the mouth man.
- [Presenter 11] This guy, Ward.
He's for real.
- [Presenter 12] What they're doing now, Sears and Ward both did a century and a half ago.
- [Presenter 13] Honestly, did not have a political bone in his body.
It was AIDS that had turned him into an activist.
- Fight back!
- [Presenter 14] I would like their legacy to go on.
It's Chicago history.
