Dr. Nneka Jones Tapia, a clinical psychologist, is the new director of the Cook County Jail. Jones Tapia has been working as a deputy director at the jail since 2013, and previously served as chief psychologist for the jail’s health care provider. The Cook County Sheriff’s office believes Jones Tapia is the first mental health professional to head up a prison or jail in the U.S.
