- Carol - Sister Carol Todd.
How are you?
- I'm good, it's nice to meet you.
- It's a pleasure to meet you.
Talk a little to that mic.
Talk a little to me.
Where are you from, dear?
- Well, I'm from, originally from a place called Grand Bay, Alabama on the outside of Mobile, but I live in Collinsville, Alabama.
- Live in Collinsville.
So, you went from the bottom of the state, all the way up to the top.
- Yes.
- Started at the bottom and now at the top, huh?
- Yes.
- All right then, great.
So, how long you been playing?
- Actually, I started playing probably about 25, 30 years ago.
Something like that.
- You just saw the guitar and just wanted to play?
- Well, believe it or not, this gentleman, he prophesied to me when I was younger, told me I was gonna be playing.
And I walked by thrift store in Birmingham and I saw a $25 guitar and I bought it and I just started practicing on it.
And God just blessed me.
- I tell you, that is great.
'Cause it was in you all along.
- Well, another story too.
- Okay.
- And I'll make this short.
My mother, she had an accident when she was younger, 14 years old.
And the doctor told us she wouldn't live.
And then a old preacher, preacher under a revival told her that God was going to heal her.
- Yes.
- And God gave her a miracle.
And the doctor said she couldn't have children.
- Right.
- So, she did.
And he told her all her kids was gonna be musically inclined or be able to sing or something.
So, I give God the glory.
That's the reason I'm here today, because.
- Oh, is that why you almost- - Jesus.
- You almost shouted right then, I felt it.
- Yes.
Because I'm not even supposed to be here according to the doctors.
- That's right, but you are here.
- I'm here, praise the Lord.
- And not just here, but you are here with power.
- Well, with the Lord Jesus.
- All right.
What church you a member up there in Collinsville?
- Well, actually I go to a church in Gadsden.
Gadsden, Alabama.
- Okay what church?
That's right, right down the street.
And what church are you a member of?
- And it's East Gadsden New Testament.
- Okay, great.
Do you know your pastor's name?
- His name is Brother Michael Toyer.
- Okay, got it.
I'm glad you got that right.
- Me too.
Me too, 'cause he's probably watching.
- I know it, I know it.
She did good pastor.
She did good.
I don't know how she doing with her tithe, but she did good right there.
All right then.
Well, let's get right into here some more wonderful gospel music with Sister Carol Todd, right here on "Alabama Gospel Roots".
We love what you're doing.
Have a great moment.
- Thank you Brother George.
- This song here has a story behind it.
We was trying to pray all night one night, and the other party was in the other room just crying out to God.
And it was two or three o'clock in the morning.
And I was in the front room, just asleep.
And I woke up and I heard all that praying and I felt really bad.
And so I thought, I gotta do something.
So, I got my guitar out and I just started saying, and God gimme these words to this.

And I said, "Well, David, you know, people tell us that all the time now."
- Yeah.
- So, she must be that.
And tell me what again, really caught your eye about Miss London Koi?
- The uniqueness of her voice and very intelligent young lady.
For her age, you know, and she got it all together.

She has it all together.
- Yeah, the poise.
- And you'll see that in a few minutes.
- Yeah, well they just said after that first song, they already got a little taste of it.
- Yes.
- And we got a very special announcement that we want to make.
And I wanted you to come up as we make this announcement.
And that has, that is she's got a concept video with a song that she sings on and it's some acting and it's just unique.
I think she's a superhero in it looks like it.
- Oh, no question.
- So, tell me London, how did that come about?
- Well, this song, it really just means so much to me.
It's talking about just social bullying, school bullying, just stop all this bullying and how parents should be there for their kids.
Just to help them go through life and just give them advice.
- Great, now is it a lot of pressure on you to be a role model?
- Me?
- Yes.
- It is, I'm just very.
- No, I'm talking to him.
- Oh.
- No, I'm really, I'm talking to you.
- I'm very blessed to be able to get this opportunity and it is some pressure just to be a role model, just to make sure that I'm showing the right message and doing the right things.
- Okay, great.
Well, I'm gonna say this to parents.
When you have a young child who is very talented and gifted, let them still be children.
- Yeah.
- Don't let them be old too soon.
You got a lifetime to be old.
- Yes.
- Okay.
But you only have a short time to be young and innocent and vibrant.
And that means so much because your peers, they get enough of parents talking to them.
But when you say it, it means the difference.
So, parents, let your children be innocent for as long as they can and then you're gonna be proud of what comes out of that.
So, I'm so thankful to be a part of your journey with my friend, my long time.
I've been knowing this guy for about 600 years.
- That's about right.
- But, and he's been the same.
Now, he's a great role model to follow.
I want to tell you that because I know a lot of folks who are supposed to be great, but you can't touch them.
Okay?
- Yes sir.
- And he's touchable and you're gonna be the very same way, if not, I know how to tie up three switches.
You know, like she said, like please no.
Okay, well listen, we gonna debut this video.
Is that okay?
- Yes.
- For the world?
- Yes, definitely.
- Okay, well tell me the name I'm gonna let you introduce the video and then we're gonna get out of the way.
However you want to introduce your video.
- This song is called Hero.
I did the cover of Mariah Carey.
