(light upbeat music) - Celebrate the season with "Christmas Tapestry" from Salt Lake Symphonic Choir, a festive mix of carols from around the world.
Erin Pike, the artistic director, joins us with the details.
Hi, Erin.
Thank you so much for being here.
So, this is your big concert, multiple languages.
- Yes.
- How many languages have you got carols in?
- I mean, we've got Spanish, French, some African dialect, and of course, we can't forget English.
There's more, I probably should have counted all of them, but we've got four or five languages in there.
- That's great, and I know the choir has been around for 76 years.
- Yes.
It's fun.
The origination of the choir was from old high school students that had graduated from South High and convinced their director, Armont Willardsen, to start an alumni choir, and that alumni choir became the Salt Lake Symphonic Choir and here we are today.
- I know, and you've got people now from everywhere, right?
- All over, yeah.
South Jordan, Logan.
People just wanted to find a space that they could come.
They were wanting to sing again after some years outside of school and college and wanted something more in life.
- Yeah, and I know you get people who move here, find out about you and they all join up, so it's- - Yes, very fun.
- So, how many voices do you have?
- Over 100.
- Over 100?
- Yeah.
- [Mary] Okay, and you're the artistic director for how long?
- This is my 16th year as the artistic director.
- And you must love the Christmas concert.
- It's one of the highlights.
I know we get an uptick in performers that come and sing with us because they love the holiday music so much.
- Okay, and you have two more concerts coming up?
- Two more concerts coming.
- Okay, and I'm gonna tell people all about them.
- Please, so.
- I'm so glad you're here and thanks for being here.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about what's featured on that Salt Lake Symphonic Choir's "Christmas Tapestry," it's December 14th at St.
Thomas More Catholic Church, December 16th at the First Baptist Church.
Both of those concerts at seven.
