A new report challenges the idea that Chicago has seen a decline in civic engagement.
U.S. Census data says volunteering has declined in Chicago from 2009 to 2019. But, a team of researchers at the University of Illinois Chicago says that's not the full picture. New research says previous data collecting doesn't include the wide range of community organizing in the city, often leaving out the work of Black, Latino, and working-class people.
