fans tonight coming up at 8 o'clock in primetime we have a terrific game for you the undefeated and second ranked Stephenson Jaguars will take on the Panthers of Southwest DeKalb a region rivalry a neighborhood rivalry a DeKalb County rivalry it's going to be great and preceding that game of course we'll have our all access pass pregame show but you get bonus coverage today there is a doubleheader going on here at Hallford Stadium we've got Clarkston taking on hate-filled charter and we're going to show you the rest of this game it's a barn burner 1414 right now and for the call on the rest of this one we go up to the booth to John Nelson and kealan Johnson guys take her away thank you very much Mark Harmon we are late third quarter 87 seconds to go for the third we were tied at 14 Clarkston had a 14-nothing lead and was the last time you saw a hook and lateral work man it's been the year since I seen especially high school football well we had it happen here last play of the first half Clarkston scores on a 4th and 11 from the 44 to make it 7 nothing then rashaam be Paquet goes out from 44 yards to make it 14 nothing now hate Ville Charter has scored twice as we're now 127 for the third and Martin has just fumbled heytvelt chartres now at the football and they scored the last two times they've had the football you had Marquis Grier going in from three yards out to make it 14-7 at the 435 mark here in the third and then Antoine Wilder just plunged in about a minute 45 later to make it 1414 so hate build charters get all the momentum right now they definitely have all the momentum they're actually moving the ball very well just turn the ball over school but they actually did capitalize the metal session they had besides that last time rush off the left tackle with air by marques Greer who scored the first touchdown for heytvelt Charter so it was a second down in short that's going to be third down and shorter now and hate-filled charters only in their third year of organized play they had a three and seven last year after an Owen for non-region schedule and they're in a tough region this year with the likes of Westminster will have a greater Atlantic Christian you want to talk about talking about one of the toughest regions there in it let's not forget about Prince Avenue without Athens Georgia plate both played there and I spoke to that team but these guys actually is hanging on there and this football game 14 up right now you really can't tell because the mowing up is all on the other side right and you talked about that schedule that hate ville charter has gone through playing both Prince Avenue Christian and Eagle's landing Christian as part of their start this year two of their first four games the other two last week against Green County and also the other game in there was a one-point loss to North Springs this is probably going to be the last play of the third quarter off right guard cutting it back but there might be people diving on the football but they're gonna call it dead and we are through with three quarters here at Hallford Stadium you want to talk about one of the best seats in the house he's got it three quarters down the final 12 minutes of Game one coming back hateful charter and Clarkston tied at 14 here on the great GPB on football Friday football Fridays in Georgia on GPB is made all about the reputation world-renowned high powered high octane and to get the chance to conduct that band on football Fridays in Georgia are you kidding me and be able to climb on that ladder and get them through a number in one piece it's one of the coolest things I've ever got the chance to do here at GPB I cannot wait to see what this season break go onto GPB sports Facebook page and let us know some of your favorite moments [Applause] welcome back Hallford Memorial Stadium for the final 12 minutes of Game one of the double header here on football Fridays in Georgia Clarkson and heytvelt Charter tied at 14 s Clarkston had the 40 nothin late then that guy Winston Gordon brought his team back with 14 straight he's the only head coach that hate Ville Charter has had the three years in the program was at Savannah State and decided to bring some of his coaches up here to start the heat Ville charter program in the third year and on the flip side Gary wons lien if that last name is familiar to you yes he is of the Buford Wan's Lee's his cousin Tim part of that one's Lee pedigree up there and he's learned a lot from Dexter would Ned Dudley when he played up there and had his first coaching gig there brought them to five and five last year which was something that hasn't been seen in Clark's than a 500 record for quite some time in the glory years for Clarkson in the late 90s with Larry jester taking the team to the Georgia Dome in the semi finals Deering wisely playing a non-region schedule this year what he wants to do is win the second half of the season he can start that right now but he's got to stop hateful charters it definitely got stuck to him he s importantly we have a coach that's focused on the big picture big pitches when you get in the region play get in the playoffs and win state but you talk about the hard reason that they ain't he hasn't go it seems like they're on the right track right now and what some schools do is they'll peel back like Clarkson is done there are other schools who are outside the city of Atlanta don't peel back and play in non-region schedule I know that inside the city of Atlanta I want to say that Druid Hills and Cross Keys do it too and Clarkston is doing it now where they want to make sure that their program is on sound footing before they can go into region play its stages and steps to get back to where you hunger you definitely have to have coach has a goal and most important when it comes to elite we've got to have a goal you got to have a busy and if you don't have that you don't have any type of leadership on your team Antoine Wilder with the carry getting seven yards and another first down for hate build Chartres and it's been the two halves you saw Clarkston dominant in the first half and the third quarter something flip grace Olson is on the sidelines you can kind of patrol things down there and feel it out but we've seen eight ville charter who's been competitive in a lot of their games this year all of a sudden they flip the switch here third fourth quarter let's crush time man they ain't no hey look we only been open for three years we launched this move on programs three years ago but we want a bite we want to fight through some recognition GPB is in the house so what I hate we want to be on TV baby you have a good showing let's take a look at this play once again the Bell County fun wild it's just a nice tall sweet lead up front banks blocking and get them into the second level of the defense that's what you want how do you run about seven yards last time eight yards this time coming up after this game reminder all-access pass and then we won't have Southwest to cabin Stevenson and you think the Clarkston band is loud now wait until we end up with the southwest of cab and the Stevenson bands in the house in about 45 minutes time make sure you guys stay tuned I I can't wait you know my father was a drum major but don't cook with college and a half of my family went to FAMU as well so both of these schools Stevenson and Southwest Southwest escape the cap mirror their band directors after those two solid colleges the HBCUs and a lot of people love the HBCU especially when it come down to the marching band John yeah and you know we talk about the bands and let's go ahead and show it to you what happened last you and southwest of cabals in the house yeah you recognize the conductor that hat that's you buddy yeah and I have to thank thanks aid and everybody at Southwest cab for letting me do that because that that's one of those bucket list things I said there you go okay I'd love to be able to do this and they let me do it so it was it was really cool to be able to do that and knowing how much effort that all of these guys that were going to be seeing put lead to their things and some of the best bands in the country when it comes to high school level I actually had an opportunity to see this big hit in the backfield right there that's of great by Christian Johnson he plays actually left tackle and defensive nose tackle a defense at you for for Clarkson so that's somebody I saw him pregame he want to make sure his defense was good they did a great job you're talking about youth and you could let her a lot of juniors on Gary ones Lee's roster for Clark's me and there are a lot of kids that are getting looks at both of these schools and you know they become special teams it was just really special story when it comes to Clarkston winding up and throwing into double coverage picked off at the 19 yard line we're going to come back the other way with Quan Odom with the pick and it was an easy pitch and catch that time you got a real kind of coverage games on the line they need a big flake it's tied up did a great job we talked about the smaller classifications where you have kids who are going to be playing both ways Odom doesn't leave the field he's gonna end up as a wide receiver so you're going to see 81 in the huddle getting a play call after getting the pick well you have a young team you have a lot of guys go both ways done it they they know their responsibilities they notice they have a lot on their plate whether it's playing defensive back they're moving to receiver or respond to receiver plan plan because in a week both teams are trying to find there are Danny good job tonight end up no surprise we're Chompy Paquet had 240 or so yards on just under 300 yards coming into this game when you see it right there [Music] he got all their touchdowns tonight you can run the ball pretty hard and he's been getting a good job and going to the second level of the defense making defenders miss and you know what one thing about a running back both signs of a good running back not getting tackled at first defender touchy and he's been doing that tonight hot wet coming into the game as you saw averaging almost eight yards of carry such great weapons the wands need a half hit the outside didn't find a whole garden tackle lost about a yard maybe two on that place yeah this defense is cranking down the hardest thing in high school sports especially when it comes to football it's finding the right personnel to defend such a strong heavy offensive systems across the state of state of Georgia we've seen a lot of football this year and they've been offensive heavily but we have yet to see a really strong defense to stop these aggressive offense second down 11 for Clarkston all-access pass and Southwest at cabin Stephenson coming up after this big hole for rashaam be Paquet 45 yard line ball hit the turf but they're gonna call him down at the 47 so a gain of 17 for Paquet on the handoff they actually find them a nice niche off the edge of the of the left side of the offense there in this making sure they get to the second level he's doing a great job you got a hold onto that football cuz he fumbled once already tonight Kevin Wheaton and Antoine Wilder in on the tackle for hate Ville Charter that was a big first down to keep momentum going coming up on eight and a half minutes to go regulation as this game is tied at 14 Clarkston had a 14-nothing lead hate bill charters come back to tie it as we are here in the fourth quarter handoff once again cut 50 45 down to the 40-yard line and the flip there gets another first down Joseph Ross just testing the agency these hate-filled charters defensive ends are really not doing a good job tonight actually being recruited by by a Clemson he's a junior this year he's the only guy on the team who's really got a spotlight and it's pretty much the heart and soul and plays both sides of the ball for them you saw him end up the the running back that time for the somersault first down again Clarkston the first man through gets the football down to about the 36 yard line so a gain of three on first down and really that's all you need on first down just get that get that ten feet and you're good to go you definitely that's the goal of the office on the first downs you sometimes you want to shoot for the pylons because you know you have two more downs that get to first but on first down you want to get what you can second down is use the way usually a test downs a pass and so third down this crunch down you have to get it third down so let's see what they can do here pistol sent Trayvon Odom the lead handoff up again 35 30 25 20 down inside the 20 to the 18 yard line and you want to talk work in the edges left right left it's almost military football filling the edges of that offense making sure they're running back half the length you want to talk about a lane that's a lane paint bill chart are having to scramble from the second level to get the tackle as we come up on 710 to go regulation Clarkston driving from their own 20 off the interception by laQuan Odom inside the 18 hand off once again deep back finally stacked up and a big loss that time looks like a loss of maybe three in on the tackle once again Kevin Wheaton as part of it 88 you're gonna see him a lot in this game once again they're working the tail meet him right there it was Elijah Goodman head on so you had Goodman and Wheaton 84 and 88 in on the tackle I guess one two defense in say hey I guess they're gonna run the ball over here I'll get one tackle and if we're a little hesitant in trying to identify number 26 is because we don't have a 26 on our roster so it 26 gets the handoff kicks it back the outside once again another loss back to the 24 so a loss of four now it's going to be third down and 16 but Clarkston has converted these before in this game they really have they did a great job of making sure they get off of it moved the chains on thirds now and coaches know those plays you have those certain plays and you your PlayBook badge on that you need to make a first down and they have them you see what they can do here Jordan Douglas in at quarterback coming into the game you saw the stats earlier 50% completions on the year 4 5 well over 500 yards coming in and it looks like it's going to be a spread set instead of pistol which is what we've seen from Clarkson 2 points in this game third down 13 coming up on 5 and a half to go regulation Douglas looking throwing into double coverage back shoulder throw complete to laQuan Odom inside the 5 great grab to the outside shoulder door Douglas put it to where only Odom could get to it there's a great pitching catch ready as you can see Odom's lined up for the number 2 spot it was just a wheel route the number one receiver runs a runs a post and number two comes around the edge and great play by the safety Anton Wilder the recruit possibly going to Clemson you know that's one thing about a safety you want to make sure you cover your corners back and he did the great job of that and Antoine Wilder a little anxious coming across the line of scrimmage looks like that'll cut that distance and a half silly first and goal at the 2 with 508 to go once again reminder all-access pass coming up after the completion of this game then after all access pass it's going to be Southwest to cabin Stevenson looking forward to that battle in region 6 5a coming up from as I call it Memorial Stadium it's Hallford Memorial Stadium when I grew up it was the cab Memorial Stadium you talk about Southwest and Stevenson right now but this we'd have dogfight right here man in the fourth quarter 1414 5 minutes and 8 seconds left to go make sure you keep a lock right here on Georgia Public Broadcasting we'll be right back are you willing to give a helping hand if you're a Georgia high school student you can enter gpb's video contents win a thousand dollars and make a difference how can you help stop the job you was in the championship game when Norcross won the 6a title I interviewed Alvin Kamara and the quarterback Joseph's builders we're just coming behind on the game when you touch that we kept playing our game and kept pressing on and we came out with the link if you could bottle that kind of enthusiasm you could light the world it hasn't sunk in yet really no sir go to the log on to GPB sports Facebook page and tell us about your favorite moments welcome back Holford Memorial Stadium 508 to go regulation the helmets are all lined up in a row just make sure that you pick the one that fits your head Stephenson getting warmed up doing all their toe touches Mark Harmon Kat Kearney everyone else doing their toe touches on the set off to camera left if you were looking at our set from that particular location all-access pass coming up Southwest a cabin Stephenson after that so it is a full evening of football Fridays and Georgia right here on the great GPB and Southwest caps band getting ready for it and everything is getting ready so first and goal from the two off the penalty ball on the carpet and who's [Music] seem like Hartfield starter that's elves in a dog fight you know 14 14 as we stated seem like Clarkson got themselves got the ball back Jordan Douglas fell on it that's huge and Douglas being a sophomore quarterback number one rule in a wrestling you can not turn the ball over not want to turn the ball over it's opportunity to score it's crunch time it's 4:40 baby who wants it so let's see what happens here Clarkson lost the momentum to hate Bill Carter drives end up in hateful charters scores to tie the game at 14 you see the time left on the clock and Counting four and a half and less than that now in regulation three wide slot the tail for Clark stone wall on the carpet again who's got it looks like hateful Charter comes up with it great defensive play would hate field charter coming up in to wrestle just talked about turn the ball over you have to be able to capitalize on defense they did just that John nice and look who it is mr. Bennett penned a ball coming through there like Troy Polamalu and at the safety position making sure he rough cuts and Wilder breaks the play up from the absolute beginning and Elijah Goodman ends up with it and you're seeing right now why Wilder is getting looked at by ACC schools hate Ville charter dodges one and they've got 408 to go the length of the field to see what they can do and put points on the board up to the ten yard line gain of five and late flag into the pile on that one and just so you know because you're talking about teams from two separate classifications there will not be in overtime so the game will end when the clock hits zero the tie is a tie but you gotta give it up no matter how this game ends John I'm gonna be honest I was not expecting this score to be what it is right now in the fourth quarter well and these two teams they've been fighting they've been trading left's and rights for over 40 minutes now and it looks like a personal foul after the play to take the ball all the way out to the 25 to get eight Ville charter out from under their own goalpost let's see hate-filled Charter can drive this ball down the field and it possibly in this game in a very very very nice Drive let's see if this old seat let's go back to those plays I was talking about you have like 10 to 15 plays that you have our go to plays are your bread and butter and that's what you really have to look for and your two-minute offense coming up here in a minute self Marquis career with the hand off pot for very little gain gave him three give it to Greer again trying to work to the outside and gets down a hot collar there 32 and it looks like that's what they might call there you go two personal fouls on this drive here that's something you cannot have on a dish inside the ball if you cost it this is oh go home and nothing baby like they're gonna call a facemask on the tackle down and see if it's a personal foul or if it's just a five-yard it's like it's just a five-yard penalty every little bit helps but it rolls it back over to a first down now to the 36 yard line naval charter has the ball at their own for they love this formation a two by two pensions to all streets that's the number one stressful career with the handoff again off flight tackle right edge gets it out close to the 45 yard game eight maybe nine Clarkson van you can kind of heal trying to give that defensive of motivation step up Jordan battle lost his helmet 24 for Clarkston he's gonna have to sit out of play Barclays defense which has been holding a big shot and most of the evenings gonna have to bump pull up one more time on the drop down the seam picked off again at 32 40 45 50 it's over again 4045 he's got numbers to tackle him down inside the 20 with under tall most two minutes the Gullah Quan Odom again again back-to-back interceptions as you can see the quarterback to sitting in the pocket he has a man wide open but the vault is selling Ottoman you see Odom their starting receiver right there ready for the intercession and once again that bread and other covers and the deep drop a cover to coverage great job by the safety holder once again remember that your lineup after this game is over 204 is 204 there is no overtime all-access pass after this Kela and I raced down from the press box up here and get our lactic acid fix for the first round is only gonna keep coming up and down the whole time and then after that at Southwest a cab and Stevenson cost pitch we shall be Paquet trying to work it to the outside and the ball almost hit the floor again but Paquet ends up with a loss of a couple back to the 23 great job by logic Goodman the defense again by just setting the edge you know they've been working that edge all night tonight and that's their bread and butter plate but that's a great job by setting edge and not making sure that running back hits that hit the I saw 100 seconds and counting regulations sent it down 14 they're gonna call it a loss of work to the outside 90 seconds to go but Gary Watson has talked about special teams to be big for him this year in his play skipper has a canapé tell you that story the SEC handoff again working the middle of the field trying to get yardage back gets it back to the original line of scrimmage so the 70 seconds to go back to the 19 yard line with that run there John correct me if I'm wrong I believe they're hit definitely still go range and you talk about that field goal kicker there it is once again here's Paquet middle of the field ceases hole works the cut back that time he does a great job by running north-south yeah a lot of running backs they love to run sideline to sideline but getting north-south helps your office it tops away of those yardage that you if you run to the right run to the left you're gonna put an extra five or 10 yards on to the run oh yeah get down hill and get what you can speaking of Fridays nights [Music] and you want to talk about Downton Abbey one of the biggest series that public broadcasting has ever seen people are addicted to this like you have no idea in Georgia Public Broadcasting is going to be running Downton Abbey all of last season getting you ready for the upcoming season of Downton Abbey all fall and went along right here on GPB it's a great show John I mean I mean for those of you that like soap operas Downton Abbey's the thing I mean growing up I was at General Hospital Days of Our Lives guy I had no choice the Cassadine third down nine from the 1866 seconds to go Doug was dropping in the flat no one around him ten five down to the one-yard line is Trayvon Odum and we're under 55 seconds they're going to give him the one-yard line that's a very nice coverage out the back put your back put your running back coming up the flats and getting north/south and trying to get the touchdown is the ball and the one Douglass 50% passer coming into the day here's Odum trying to get his way in lowers his head but the ball hit first timeout called and you want to talk Clarkston with the timeout now santino jerk' you're looking at number five right straight get to stretch on your fellow turkey who's a story before Santino came to America didn't know about American football he's Sudanese by birth but he's hit a field goal last year of 52 and has hit from 55 last week against Decatur yeah really you know I didn't say that out loud yeah really I said really he said from 52 and 55 as a junior wow that's like the kicker from last night we had Marietta bomb them from yeah pregame at 55 yeah so this is a chip shot for jerk' but now obviously if you don't have any time you've got first and goal so you've got a little time to figure out what you're gonna do here all-access pass and Southwest the cabin Stevenson coming up what the Jordan Douglas gonna do try to work his way and he gets bent backwards by Antoine Wilder of hate Ville Charter and the clock will roll Clarkston cannot stop it the bigger question is what you gonna run you're gonna run anything my thing is that you got a nice running back to the band actually running the football very well tonight downhill north/south runner you got to put the ball in you run it back Stan he's averaging over he's averaging over eight yards per carry who knows what how many yards he has on the night but we just started covering the third quarter per say but I'm telling you right now you gotta put the ball in your playmakers ham and of course right there in the middle of screen is Santino jerky if it doesn't happen on second down this is what you practice Wednesday and Thursday right getting special teams onto the field getting them set for the game-winning field goal attempt this is how you get rid of practice on Thursday to get it in you go home three wide and the tail handoff Paquet they're gonna give it to him clock's gonna continue to roll here we're down to 20 seconds what's the decision they didn't give it to him we're down to 15 we've got ten seconds you're gonna have to clock the ball here now Jordan Douglass's realize they got to clock the ball and we're going to tie get set and clock the ball they're not going to have the time to do it time runs out play though we've got flags with no time on the clock hold it Ayaka hold it that is we got to see what the flag is here because it cannot end on the defensive penalty if it's on Clark's then the game ends in a tie if it's on heytvelt charter the Angoras live for another shot so here's what the call is we're gonna see what's going on one put one second on the clock offsides heytvelt charter and so now it's third down and here comes Santino jerk' for the game-winning field goal attempt jerk' measuring it back to the eight it's going to be an 18 yard field goal attempt at a sharp angle Jordan Douglas will hold we get an extra play here since it was a defensive penalty Clarkston has the chance for the win Santino jerk' with a chip shot Clarkston had a couple of penalties on hate bill charters last drive another interception the second of the quarter by laQuan Odom has taken them to this point a third and goal inside the one with the one free play on the board hate ville charter could choose to ice jerk' here if they so fit too but right now all Jordan Douglas and Santino jerk' are thinking about is making sure that that sharp angle field goal gets in from 18 yards out do the Angoras get their second win of the year do they end up with a one in the tie column I have another discussion and the game is over it was supposed to be a second on the clock and the snap didn't happen so the game right now ends in a tie and the Clarkston staff is trying to figure out whether or not the officials meant one more play or one second it was one second it didn't reflect on the clock here in the stadium so they're trying to sort it all out Guerry wands Lee and his staff on an explanation and I think what happened was Clarkston thought it meant one more play the officials may have signaled one more second ii ran off even though it wasn't on the stadium clock and right now we're at a 14-14 tie grace Olsen is kind of in the pile trying to figure out what's going on and I'm just as confused as everybody else here the officials are leaving the field and the clock has started for the next game Clarkston not leaving hate ville charter not leaving Winston Gordon with his hands up on the far sideline trying to figure out what's going on and it looks like Hart Clarkston is getting ready for the handshake so it looks like the game has ended in a 14-14 tie with just a boatload of confusion on the floor at the end of the game as the head coach from all right coach coach what was going through your mind at the end of that game was a lot of confusion all right want the dough for the field goal want to get the field goal you lit on then go for the field goal okay now you said one of your primary goals this season was to establish pride in this program I saw a lot of that on the sideline talk about how you know you came so close how this can build on that foundation and continue that pride definitely thinks it's born into this my third year here at Clarkson and the kids just buying into what I'm elite what I'm believing in what I'm preaching tool what you got a keeper just got to keep fighting I mean these kids fight hard we just got to keep work and then good things are gonna come to us okay and tell us a little bit about what the referees were telling you right there at the end of the game well they you know we hit one put told us to put one second back on the clock and you know they're balls and so you know the spot of the ball you know start the clock and that was kind of the ball game I I thought it was I thought we had jumped offsides or a right guard had jumped offsides so I thought he hit through a penalty and I thought that you know he threw I thought the whistle was for him jumping on sighs and I was gonna try to go ahead and get the field go then but you know unfortunately it didn't happen that way and you know so it ends up with a tie he said you know we're basically a 5a team and we're not in the same region so it's no official said it was no overtime so well not that finish you would have wanted but I'm gonna send it back over to mark on the send thank you so much for joining us tonight yeah thank you I'm sorry I couldn't hear with grace thanks so much it's another football Friday in Georgia here on Georgia Public Broadcasting what a first game 1414 Clarkson hate-filled charter coming up next at second ranked and undefeated Stephenson taking on the Panthers of Southwest to cap a long time to cab County rifle we will play out on GPB the all-access pass is coming up next don't touch that dial we're back after this timeout [Music]
