I'm Tracci Dial and that tops the headlines for NWPB Weekly News Now.
The two countries are updating the treaty terms an agreement that details flood risk management along the Columbia River.
For decades, the U.S. paid Canada to store water in its reservoirs, helping protect people down river.
Now, water managers are saying the U.S. will have less storage in Canada.
Here's Steve Barton with the Army Corps of Engineers.
“To maintain similar levels of flood risk, U.S. reservoirs may need to make up some of the lost storage from Canada in some years.” The Corps and the Bureau of Reclamation hosted virtual information sessions on the updated plans earlier this month.
To get a breakdown of it, find this article on NWPB.org.
Also online, more than a dozen cases of avian flu have been reported in Washingtonians.
That's according to the state Department of Health.
The cases were first reported in October, and health leaders say so far, no person to person cases have been reported.
“We're always watching for is whether this virus could be transmitted to humans.
So far, that risk is very low.” That was Amber Itle, the state veterinarian.
And of course, that's good news.
All the Washington cases are confirmed or probably cases from poultry.
And if you do have any questions about your own health, DOH has a number that you can call at 1-800-525-0127.
One more time, that's 1-800-525-0127.
Well, with the holiday season here, there are lots of ways to celebrate.
And NWPB has some great radio programing all the way through New Year's Day.
A full schedule can be found on our website.
Look for “Welcome Christmas.” It's a full hour of classic holiday music from VocalEssence, one of the world's premier choral groups.
If that's not your jam, how about “Last Leaf on the Tree” with Willie Nelson?
It's a deep dive into the collaboration between Willie and his son Micah, producing that latest album, “Last Leaf on the Tree”.
And NWPBs own “Press to Play: Winter Special”.
Don't miss that from Anjuli Dodhia, Devin Gay and Connor Henricksen.
Game music to get you, and maybe the kids or grandkids too, in the holiday spirit.
And while you check out that schedule in the home page, look for the sign up for newsletters.
There's a monthly station wide newsletter, another for education, and now, sign up for the newsletter straight from the NWPB newsroom coming in the new year.
