(bright music) - Stokes Nature Center hosts Concert in the Canyon, a unique blend of live music, nature, and community.
Here to tell us more is Kendra Penry.
Welcome, Kendra.
- Thank you.
Thank you for having me.
- So tell me about this event.
It's music, it's nature.
- Yes.
Concert in the Canyon started a few years ago.
A generous gift from the musicians, Fry Street Quartet, to create a benefit experience for people to be able to support Stokes Nature Center, but also connect to nature in a really unique way.
So they play music inside our nature center, which is as we've had multiple people say, it feels magical, just the sound and the experience of being there.
We open all the windows if it's warm enough so you can hear the birds.
There's always hummingbirds at our feeders and then some really incredible music.
They're very generous by sharing information about the songs.
We share a meal together, and then people have a chance to just be a part of this community, to enjoy being next to nature, in nature, but also enjoy some really incredible music.
- I love that they're able to do that while also supporting a good cause as well.
- Absolutely, the funds raised from it go to helping us keep so many of our programs either free or to create scholarships for students in our summer camps and in our preschool because we really believe that nature is for everyone.
But that's not really accessible for all people because of time, or money, or whatever it is, so we try to break down as many barriers as we can.
And this benefit concert is one way that we can do that for the rest of the year.
- Yeah, another way is, you said, there are some people that feel like they might not be able to make it there physically in order to celebrate or take advantage of this.
- Yeah, the Nature Center is in an incredible place inside Logan Canyon.
You actually have to walk about a quarter mile up the river trail to get to us, and for many people that just feels not possible.
However, so many people don't realize you can actually drive that trail if you'll call us.
We can only have a limited number of cars at the Nature Center, but we want that to be available to everyone.
So if they just give us a call, we can open the gate, they can get up there, and we can all enjoy it together.
- Love to hear that.
Thank you so much for being here on "Contact."
