(upbeat music) - "La Mesa" explores how Avanza 88.3 strengthens Utah's Latino and bicultural communities through lively and relevant conversations.
Hosts Edgar Edgar Zuniga and Carina Linares are here to share how the station amplifies Latino voices and creates a vibrant digital hub for culture, identity, community connection, and more.
Welcome to the show.
- Thank you for having us.
It's great to see you here.
- I grew up in Mesa, so Mesa, Arizona, so as soon as I saw "La Mesa," I was attracted to the show.
- Oh, I love that.
- And excited about it.
Tell me about this series, this new show, and why it's called "La Mesa."
- Well, it's called "La Mesa."
La mesa means table.
And so, you know, it's us as friends, as a community, gathered around the table talking about the things that matter to us.
And really, it's Avanza condensed into one hour.
So we start looking at the headlines, kind of like the context behind the headlines, catching up, and then we do a deep dive where we talk about things like immigration, or air quality, or even food insecurity.
And then we wrap up with a very cool artist interview.
- Carina, how excited are you to be a part of this show and to add this cultural flair to Utah?
- Yeah, I mean, there's really nothing like this here in Utah, so it's super, super unique, and it's just so exciting to be able to provide something for our community that has never been there before.
And so really, we're really excited, and I think it's a lot of fun.
- And so often people are on the go and they may not be able to do like appointment listening or appointment viewing.
And I was excited to hear that people can also take it in in a podcast form as well.
- That's right.
So all our podcasts are available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts if you search Avanza 88.3, you can also go to our website and listen to all of them there at avanzautah.org.
And what's cool about "La Mesa" is that it's primarily in English, but we do sprinkle in a little bit of Spanish, you know, so it is in Spanglish, we could say.
So that's really cool, because that's the way that we talk.
(laughs) - Yeah.
And I love that you guys are involving the community in it and also sharing a bit of your personal lives as well.
- Yeah, we do, it's a chance to be real, a chance to connect and find joy, and we're always looking for people to participate.
- Well, thank you so much.
If you would like to check out the show, the information is on your screen right now.
It is the "La Mesa Talk Show."
And just head to www.avanzautah.org to listen.
I'm Liz Adeola, and thank you so much for watching "Contact."
