The Continental Army, formed in 1775, was created by the Continental Congress to represent the 13 Colonies during the Revolutionary War.
It was a force of ordinary citizens composed of volunteers, including men from various backgrounds and occupations, many without prior military training, who faced the challenge of fighting the well-equipped and experienced British Army.
