We have had an outstanding day of high school football here at the Metro PCS Corky Kell Classic, the 20th edition of this event.
And I tell you, the first three games have been outstanding.
We are getting ready for the final game.
Walton taking on Peachtree Ridge and the Lions are ready to rumble against the Raiders of Walton.
Here's Jon Nelson with a look at the Peachtree Ridge Lions.
The Lions got off to a gangbuster start in the 2010 season five and oh, but.
Injuries absolutely brought.
The red back to Earth as they limped literally to a six and four finish with a year behind them in region seven.
Five A expectations this year are very high.
Everyone sees we were winning the championship.
Everybody's worked hard in the summer, everyone's been there.
So game by game come out last year.
We just want to get back top of our region, ounce back from those five games we lost in the second half of the season.
We want to stay healthy ecause that was our big that was a big factor last year we had nine injuries going to second half of the season and longer because they hope I think we can win the region this year you know as you look back there were some things that were that were good.
Of course, we didn't get in the playoffs and you don't like that.
But going into spring practice, you know, we had nine kids back on offense defense.
We lost three key players on defense that we're trying to replace now.
And and I think, you know, as far as the expectations of our team, you know, our goal is, of course, we want to, you know, win the region and get into the playoffs and try to win a state championship.
And they'll do it with some second generational footballers familiar to local NFL fans.
Just this time, there won't be any dog collars for one of them in particular.
It's kind of hard to live up to the fame, ut I guess it's rewarding at the same time because you got all the the older guys that are coaching you every step of the way.
Like at home, coaches probably just come out with that swagger on the football field.
I mean, it's really it's a real good experience to, like, play with each other.
Are all our dads playing in the NFL and stuff like this telling me to stay humble and always look at the ball, never take it out of the ball when it's coming towards you and always take the ball.
That's all he tells me all the time.
Take the ball.
Look at the ball.
Stay home to to meet their fathers, too, after watching them on TV and just the kind of people they all are and how much support they've offered and how much help is is really need.
And these guys have dreams, too, you know, and they want they want to make their their mark on the game is really it's really neat to see that, you know, they don't want to live off their dad's name.
They want to try to make their own name.
Time now to check out the MetroPCS quirky Cal scoreboard.
And we've had three outstanding games for you in game one.
It was Cal losing the Grayson seven and nothing on a late fourth quarter touchdown then the upset of the day last year knocking off five eight defending champ Brookwood 14 to 6 in the game you just saw McEachern rallied in the late in the fourth quarter to score a couple of touchdowns to beat North Gwinnett 26 to 17.
And coming up, it's Peach Tree Ridge and Walton.
That game supposedly teeing off at 830.
But it's going to be a little bit later than that because of all the action.
Now, the Walton Raiders have a ton of talent returning from last year's team that went seven and four, and they'd like to make a return trip here to the Georgia Dome like, say, in December for the state championship.
Here's a look at the Raiders.
Coach Rocky Hidalgo is entering his third season as head coach of the Walton Raiders.
And this could be his best so far in Raider Valley.
14 starters return from last year, seven and four playoff team, five on offense and nine on defense.
And if you believe that old football adage that offense sells tickets and defense wins championships, that bodes well for the Raiders this year.
We should be pretty good over there.
We've got a lot of seniors over there.
I think we're really talented, probably the most talented team we've had here at Walton High School on the defensive side of the ball in about ten years.
So we have really high expectations.
Spearheading that defense is linebacker Cody Allen and then the defensive backfield, you are not seeing double.
It's just double trouble for opponents.
As twins Darren and Zac Blaylock lead the way.
So defense should be pretty good.
We've got a lot of starters coming back, so a lot of experience in the first level.
We have 17 starters coming back, most of them on defense.
We're going to be a shut down defense.
They're not going to get past us offensively.
The Raiders will move it with the West Coast passing style offense led by the strong right arm of quarterback Parker McCloud.
I've been prepared for this.
And, you know, running the offense or working in the last two years back up ehind a senior.
So I've had a lot of experience and so I'm ready to take over and excited to.
And there is a certain vibe and Raider Valley this year that this team could accomplish some big time goals.
Well, it's a great opportunity for our kids.
Come down here.
It's an easy place to play.
They get a chance to play in front about 30,000 people here in the stadium.
And it's always good to start the season off with, you know, a great opponent like a piece to it.
So for us, it's, you know, it's what we want to do.
We spend all summer long working to get ready for the season.
And this is kind of weight caps, the whole summer and have a chance to come out here in the right environment, play a great opponent.
It's very exciting.
You know, we get to play a good team like this year is and it's just it's a good chance to show what we got and how good of a team we are.
Got a lot of people coming back so real excited about this year.
It's a great experience, great energy.
Everyone's just out there just waiting to hit someone.
It's it's awesome.
It's real fun.
Happens to kids.
Not only have we televised high school football and great high school football, I might add all day long.
It's also been an interactive experience on the Internet.
So let's go up to the press box and check in with Jackie Brittain on what people have been chatting about on the World Wide Web.
Jacki, thanks, Mark.
Even up here at the Press Box, we're still absorbing that incredible fourth quarter contact by McEachern.
But let's get you updated on the Heat poll we've been talking about all day long.
About 50% of you say that each school should have a written advisory for conducting practices in the heat, ut we want to keep the conversation going at GPB Dawgs Sports.
But moving right along, we caught up with some of the McEachern alums.
First we've got Rory Anderson, who now plays for USC, who says that he's sitting in his dorm room, dorm room in Columbia.
He says, Shout out to my NHS team, y'all know I'm watching.
Also joining us is alum Don D'Andre Purnell, who now plays at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, along with his former high school teammate Don Travis Lawson.
We asked the guys for any tips on college all to these high school athletes and Lawson says that it's faster and more competitive.
Anderson chimed in as well, saying Hard work and dedication will take you a long way, so be sure to keep up with us online at GPB Dawgs Sports.
Mark, back to you.
Hey, thank you very much, Jackie.
You know, the talking cow classic is just the beginning of a big year of high school football here on GPB, starting next Friday night, we will have a game for you on television and on the Internet every Friday night through the state championship games in December.
Now, everything kicks off with Collinsville at Roswell on television, and the first one on the Internet is Saint Pius at Westminster.
It's just got the best games.
Our pre-game show on television starts at 754.
We'll have a post-game show for you.
So all season long on GPB and GPB Dawgs Sports, the best high school action you're going to find now joining us is Echoes and a great band here from Atlanta.
And with me is Chad Lanier.
Chad, talking about your band and the kind of music you guys play?
Well, our band is called Echoes End and we are all about writing original music and playing it for the people that love it.
And also events like this we're so excited to be a part of in a great event like the Corky Carl classic, you know, and we live for moments like this.
There's great football going on right now and we're just proud to be a part of it.
You know.
You guys also wrote the theme music for GPB Sports.
That's right.
We did for the Football Friday show.
That was a pretty interesting process.
We went back and forth with GPB several times to try to get out the right idea, you know.
And then finally, Kevin Coughlin, our singer, who doesn't play guitar in the band, ut he still can play Don't Let Him Fool You.
And he came up with the key riff and we built that up, recorded it here in Atlanta at Open Sky Studios, and GPB loved it, and we're happy to be a part of it.
How about a website where people can check you guys out?
The best one to get on that is Facebook.
Of course, everybody is doing Facebook, Reverb Nation.
It's all of Facebook.com slash echoes and you know, the typical stuff.
And we're in the works right now with our photographer APB Digital.
They're doing a Echo's intercom for us, so that'll be up very shortly.
All right, you guys ready to rock the house?
Okay, I give you echoes, and they're going to rock the house here at the Georgia Dome tonight.
And we are back on the scene and we're from Gwinnett County.
And now with.
Shelly.
What to do and I don't know why I like this, ut it's just so easy to be that way every now.
So the word.
Here, I never thought you could have that right.
Yeah.
Down, down, down.
If you like JB's presentation of high school football, you can show that appreciation by texting.
ZBB at $10 donations.
All you have to do is text the letters GPB.
To the number 85944.
That's 85944.
Data rates may apply on that.
When we come back, we will have more.
Corky Kyle.
Classic.
So stay with us.
So ack to the GMB tailgate party.
I'm Mark Harmon, the Rock and live here at the Georgia Dome that's that goes and wrapping up there good job by them.
Now earlier today I told you the story of the Ringgold High School football team who's trying to rebuild their school in their lives after those deadly tornadoes that came through this spring.
A lot of folks have pitched in to lend a helping hand, including their arch rivals.
Here's Jon Nelson from Ringgold.
Oh, my God.
That was in my house.
I remember sitting on my front porch looking up at the sky, saw a flash of lightning.
The clouds were green and started to swirl and said, Mom, Dad, let's get in the basement.
So we got in the basement and stayed there for an hour and a half, came ack up on this, time for Facebook and the Post said Ringgold is gone.
And we have just learned here at the Justice Center that the death toll has climbed.
Eight people have now lost their lives here in Ringgold, and that number could climb even.
Higher.
As the search.
For victims continues.
I didn't I didn't think anything was going to happen.
It was like it was a beautiful day like this, you know, until about 7:00.
And then our power went out and we went outside.
And that's kind of when we start it started to rain and lightning and a whole lot.
And then I was just awestruck, you know, I didn't really you know, you know, you know, this little Ringgold town, you know, I didn't think anything was going to ever happen to us.
I have declared a state of emergency in some 13 counties in the state of Georgia.
So I called Coach Aiken, I guess Thursday or Friday, said, hey, you know, you guys anything?
He said, Well, we're we're headed to the field house right now to get our equipment.
I said, Well, come, let me help you and load it up with them in in a, in a rental truck.
And we made our way, picked our way through town to the field house and got all their football equipment.
And I was just awed y the level of devastation.
There was a very healthy rival in place probably before Robert I ever got here.
So I had it is a healthy rival, ut under the circumstances, you know, I guess you have to step back as a coach and and look at what's important.
You know, football is a game.
It's a game that we like to use to teach lessons in life.
And to me, out of this tragedy, there's no greater lesson that our kids can learn that that you've got to reach out to your fellow man and to your brethren in their time and aid, regardless of whether they're a competitor or not.
You know, we're all human beings and we've got to love each other in this tragic situation.
John Nelson was up in Ringgold last week and he will have another report on that situation coming up at halftime of this game.
Now let's check in with our meteorologist Christy Warlow with a look at tonight's weather Christy.
Thanks, Mark.
You know, watching that imagery from Ringgold is just heartbreaking.
And what a lot of people don't realize is that Catoosa County in Dade County got hit over and over and over again that afternoon.
It was it was just heartbreaking.
But the good news is that we don't have heartbreaking weather tonight.
We actually have a beautiful night for football.
Let's take a look at our conditions for kickoff.
We're actually going to be looking at temperatures at 85 degrees.
We have partly cloudy skies out there.
Earlier, we did have some thunderstorms.
But the good news is that as the sun has set, so have those those thunderstorms, they started to diminish and fizzle out.
Taking a look at the radar, we had one count it, one thunderstorm creating rain across Cobb County.
But as soon as I hit 285, it has just diminished completely.
So no thunderstorms to worry about at this moment.
In fact, we're going to see partly cloudy skies throughout the rest of the evening.
We're going to see the temperatures also decrease, too, by halftime, 80 degrees by the fourth quarter, 79.
And by the time it's ready to go on, get out of the Georgia Dome, we'll see the temperatures down by the mid 70.
So beautiful temperatures, eautiful conditions for football.
Don't have to worry about any tornadoes tonight.
All we have to worry about as far as a great matchup.
Christi, thanks so much.
It's now my pleasure to introduce to all of you to share.
And Collins, the popular host of our Georgia Outdoors Program, a two time Emmy winner this year, I might add.
Way to go.
What are you been working on?
I just got back from Osborne Island and we were doing a great show on loggerhead sea turtles.
I wanted to bring one back to you, ut it's illegal.
Yeah.
And we've been working on a show that will air tomorrow night about bats, and I wanted to bring you a bat, ut that, too, is illegal.
So you just got me.
I'm sorry.
Well, let's take a look at your tape and see what you've been working on.
All right.
All right.
Action.
I think with nature, it's a little bit different than than many other shows, ecause you can't control nature.
It never goes like it's supposed to go.
What about this Beetle?
Does he bite?
Uh, no, I as.
They tell you that the bug won't bite you.
But it does.
It does.
He does.
They say that it's going to be easy to get down to that cave, and it's like a death fork.
This looks pretty steep to me.
That's easy.
I like long fingernails and I get teased about it.
But let me tell you, when you got to clim up a hill, these things work.
It's not enough to just show pretty pictures and have nice music.
Sure, you should have your cell phone.
There has to be a purpose.
For example, an upcoming show about bats.
The purpose is that bats are dying off and we don't know why.
I want you to fall in love with the bats.
I want you to not be afraid of them.
I want to show you these incredible mammals.
And if we can bring that home, I think we've done our job.
This is crazy.
All of the day's work.
You are definitely nuts and brave.
Much braver than I am.
A little crazy, you know.
But you know more about sports than I do.
So you me on that.
I'll take my crazy bats and you.
Can have football and you got rabies shots just to do that.
Story.
I got a series of three rabies shots.
You have to give them seven days apart.
They're like $215 a pop.
So if you if you ever want to hold a bat, you better you better think twice.
But I love them.
Congratulations on the Emmys.
Tell us again when you.
Guys are airing the show.
It will be on tomorrow.
The show about bats will actually be on tomorrow at 730 on GPB, and it airs right before nature.
So we thought it was kind of a nice match.
You can watch Georgia Nature and head on to the the National PBS Nature Show.
All right.
Well, listen, I thank you very much for coming on.
That's great.
And of course, travelers, another great show that we have on GPB.
It's a great back of act.
Well, thanks for having me.
Okay.
Bats, rats, snakes, beautiful beaches.
She's she's all over the place.
She does a great job for us.
Now, GPB is proud to announce that starting October 1st and for the next eight straight weeks after that, on Saturdays, GPB will broadcast the Southern Conference football game of the week.
Up first, Appalachian State at Wofford, Georgia.
Southern will have three of its games televised recently.
Gill Tyree had a chance to talk to the Southern Conference commissioner.
Don I am Marino.
We're excited.
It's we've we've announced that we're going to have a game of the week package starting October 1st, every Saturday 3 p.m. Eastern on GPB and other public television systems throughout the Southeast Southern Conference.
Football is one of the best in the football championship subdivision in Division one, and we're excited to be with GPB.
And of course everybody will be, you know, tuned in.
We have a lot of Georgia Southern fans and of course, what Jeff Mann is doing down there and Statesboro, you know, they're the flagship of what you guys are doing from a national perspective.
They are they've been picked to win not only our conference, but there are some that are picking them to win the national championship this year.
Jeff took over last year.
They brought the option back.
They went from being a team that was picked to finish fifth or sixth in the league.
They went all the way to the national semifinals and they've got virtually everybody back this year and I think we've got them three times on the package.
So Georgia Southern fans are going to enjoy watching them.
And you look at the history down there, starting back with the late Eric Russell and then going in to Paul Johnson and ultimately to Jeff Monken.
You know, you look at what they've done and you look at the body of work that the Southern Conference is doing nationally.
Like I said earlier, you have to feel good about now getting a platform to talk about the good work you guys are doing.
Well, we we have had great success.
It's a credit to our schools and our coaches.
We've had more teams in the Champions Ship game, won more championships than any other conference.
Georgia Southern by themselves has won six FCS championships.
They are nationally known.
Russell, you mentioned him.
Jeff Monken has done a great jo just in the first year.
And now for these games to be available across public television here in Georgia on GPB is just outstanding.
We're excited.
About it.
You guys now are going to you're coming in.
This South.
Southeastern Conference 30 NCC territory, making.
A statement on all platforms.
Well, certainly those schools get their fair share of of the blue chip athletes, ut they don't get all of them.
And and the ones that that we get generally come to our schools with maybe a little chip on their shoulder.
And they want to prove that maybe they should have been recruited y someone else.
And and they perform for us and they understand that this is this is more grassroots football, so to speak.
You don't have the the kids worrying so much about, you know, am I going to go to the NFL?
Although we do have players drafted and playing in the NFL.
But I think it's more of a grassroots football and but it's it's top notch football.
So we're excited ecause it's an opportunity for us to talk about what we have going with our student athletes.
Yes, the football is very important, ut there are other aspects of of a college experience and we hope to get that story out on GPB.
And we're looking forward to that Southern Conference games now.
We welcome in the executive director of the Metro Picks, Corky Carl Classic Dave Hunter.
Dave, you have had three outstanding games today.
We're really tired of football.
And we're excited about the venue, excited about relationship with Metro PCs and more excited about the relationship with Georgia Public Broadcasting.
You're going to be calling games with us on Friday.
We're glad to have you aboard on that.
Tell us just a little bit about the history of the Corky Carl classic.
For those who don't know, you know, we.
Started it in 92, the very first football game played in the Georgia Dome before the.
Falcons, before any college game.
This is a 20th anniversary and we're excited about it occupies two way after the 94 game and he kind of asked me to keep it alive and we've kept alive and it's growing and getting bigger and better.
With the help of GPB and MetroPCS.
Now, you were honored today with a Jersey number 20, Dave Hunter on the back.
How that make you feel?
Well, it made me feel special, old that special.
And I'm just glad I can contribute to the to the high school athletes careers in the state of Georgia in a Georgia dome.
Well, Dave, thanks very much.
We will see you next Friday on GPB.
As Collinsville takes on Roswell, I'll be looking forward to it.
All right.
But we have business at hand right now.
We've got the final game of the Corky Kyle classic at is Peachtree Ridge.
It is Walter.
And I am very proud to set it up for my two great colleagues from GPB, Jon Nelson and Gil Tyree.
Take it away, guys.
All right, Mark, thank you.
We're back.
What do you see in this one?
I see you to have Peachtree Ridge playing fast, fast, fast, Walt, and playing not as fast to try to keep Peachtree Ridge from getting onto the scoreboard.
All right.
The stage is set now.
Peachtree Ridge and Wall the straight ahead here on GPP, the kickoff coming up next time.
Some football.
That's a championship team right there on top.
The all right well then Peachtree underway this football game getting ready to start you see Peachtree it's Lyons and the Raiders have all been here at the Georgia Dome the final game of the Metro BCS, Corky Cal Classic.
We're glad to have you with us here on GPB.
Anthony Rice gets into the football and receiving it for Peachtree Ridge.
It'll be a touchback with the Mark Harris.
So Jon Nelson the Lions take over first and ten.
And you saw it saw the open.
I'm looking for Peachtree Ridge to go fast.
Fast or fastest as soon as they can get the ball out of their hands.
From the quarterback's point of view, they're going to try to spread the field, keep Walton on their heels, keep them guessing to try to get them on their heels for this first 12 minutes.
You see Billy Best, the quarterback for Mark Fleetwood in the Peachtree Ridge offense out of the shotgun right now.
We'll set the rest of the lineups as this game continues to move on.
The handoff to De'Andre Atwater, five nine, £190.
Let's set the.
Offensive starters down, Nelson for the Lions of Peachtree Ridge.
You talk to key positions, you're going to see some familiar last names right there on the far left.
Joe Horn Jr and Joe Horn, Junior Junior.
DeAndre Atwater.
Steve Atwater, son.
But you look at Dixon, Harrison, Stone, key players for the Lions as well.
The big guy left tackle Alex Geraci, six seven, £330.
Second and eight for Peachtree at their own 22 opening minutes here in our final game here at the Georgia Dome.
That's best swinging out on the left side, looking and finding his receiver.
That is complete to a matt Harris.
They spotted up about the 37 yard line.
Designed roll out right there.
Find it, throw it to a spot, great leaping grab and watch the drag of the foot.
Look up top.
And left foot down, right foot down, two feet.
Nice grab and pushed out of bounds.
Boy, what a game Matt Steward and Chuck Oliver had here on GPB earlier.
Congratulations.
Go out to Kyle Hockman and McEachern Indians.
What a classic he is.
First and ten for Walton and the whistle and a flag on the play.
John Nelson.
Let's see what the man in the white hat has to say about this one.
Usually with offenses that run quickly, they might be running too quickly.
Dead ball encroachment, defense, snow, first down.
All right.
Let's set the defense for Rocky Hidalgo and his raiders.
And Rocky believes this is the best team he's had ever.
Three, four, four.
Cody Allen on the left side, Cavallo and Brooks.
And you get Blake Mundt speed to the quarterback, Jim Hogan.
Yes.
That name is familiar for Georgia Tech folks.
The secondary, the Blaylock twins, Zack and Darren.
Yes, they are Mookie's sons.
The starting lineups rought to you by SunTrust here tonight.
You know, you talked about the aforementioned Cody Allen not in great shape.
Coach said he had a surgery on his tonsils, a deviated septum.
John Nelson, you don't want to have that.
That's not fun breathing, right there.
First and five for Peachtree Ridge.
Best swings it up on the right side.
The ball is caught over there.
And there's Mark Fleetwood, the head coach of Peachtree Ridge, got the jo in mid-July, two or three weeks before spring practice.
And then on the flip side, you're going to have Rocky Hidalgo squaring off against Fleet Rock.
He's been there a couple of years, Scott Walton to the postseason, a couple of times out, replacing Ed Dudley, the head coach.
Now in that where county right now 13 and eight his third year.
And a class that they complete to drone logo of Peachtree Ridge dirt drum go I don't make it first and ten for Peachtree Ridge at their own 47 est swinging it out in the pocket and that goes.
Nowhere John Nelson once again pressure to the ball in that three for Rocket Dog I was going to want to send seven and let's see how Walton ended up wrapping this one up.
All right.
You see best and of course looking out on a flat for De'Andre Atwater pressure coming Atwater water not able to evade the Walton tacklers if they got there would help to make the stick Zach.
Hoadley there in on the tackle and the thing about DeAndre Kelly as well like for Peachtree Ridge is that Atwater coming out of the backfield can catch the ball as a running back.
Second and 17 for Peachtree Ridge at their own 40 a loss of seven.
The handoff to Joe Horn Jr and.
It was snapped out by bill walton raider defense.
Another loss of five or six right there blake months we talked about speed to the quarterback months is just a shining example of it watch right here off the edge wrapped up Joe horn jr. And you talk about the penetration y months able to get in there and put the stick on Joe Horn Junior and you talked about the star power, right?
Ray Buchanan Joe Horn Jr, the Atwater's Mark Fleetwood has a dream team going on up there.
There's the vitals on Billy Best 591 85 in his final year at Peachtree Ridge, third and 20.
Five and a real long 25 for Peachtree Ridge whistles.
When you talk to Coach Fleetwood about Billy Best, they have to count on him this year.
He only threw for about 40% last season.
They need him up in the 60 to 70 range.
Denver false start offense.
And you know Notre Dame.
In addition to that as you just get a shot of coach Fleetwood of you look at the situation as it relates there that they want to be able to move the pocket around for Bess to get him opportunities to make.
Plays.
Yeah, and that's what Coach Fleetwood said.
He said that they have to move the pocket and it's up to Bess to get the ball into the right places.
Third, and a long throw for the lines of Peachtree, which.
Is such a thing as a short throw.
No, that's the completed pass up to about the 40 that was to Omar Harris.
More whistles and conversation.
We have a sideline warning gets the offense more down.
And a big of a punting.
Situation.
Get too close to the action.
JACKSON You got to stand ehind the white line and the.
Officials on top of that immediately Coach Fleetwood told his guys, move back.
And that's what you always have a get back coach.
Every high school has a get back coach, and that's specifically what his function is to tell everyone to get back, make sure that they're behind that line so you don't end up with warnings and possibly penalties down the line.
Connor Rouleau And the punt almost blocked gets it.
Off.
And taken there by number two for the Walton Raiders.
Cody Richardson on the Catch 34 yard punt, no return if not minus yardage on the turn.
And there's Parker McLeod of the clan McCloud, quarterback for Rocky Hidalgo.
You know, you and I had an opportunity to see Walton and a scrimmage against Norcross.
And I really told I told Rocky, I said, this kid can play.
He's already has been offered from Louisville.
And at 6 to 183 in a junior, you remember who all was.
Who else was also in attendance in that ballgame.
Holding on the receiving team ten yards first down.
Someone getting some advanced scouting for this particular ball game.
Penalty on the play.
And of course and that'll knock them back.
It was holding on this on the plate so that'll knock them back 15 and Walton will have to start out deep in their whole right now 844 here in the opening quarter at the Georgia Dome Gill Tyree, John Nelson Parker McCloud under center the handoff to Tyron Jones.
Let's set the stage down right now for the starting lineup from SunTrust.
MARTIN One of the focal points for that particular offense, it will be Tyron Jones.
And, you know, there's your front right there, Romberg, Tyron Jones and Kelly Brooks in the backfield, Myles Howard and Tim Dalton, your tight end and the big guys up front and if that name in the middle's familiar, it should be the athletic director son for Georgia Tech Grant Reddick Povich.
One of the stars on that offensive line could block Kebano.
And, of course, you talked about the fact that Grant rather covets the son of the outstanding athletic director for Georgia Tech, Dan Rather Kovic.
Straight ahead on the carry, it's Kelly Brooks.
And we talked about the fact that Walton here tonight was going to pound away with that trio of backs that they use.
So effectively here, the guys are going to try to stop him for three right now for Peachtree Ridge off the top, Sean even, and Tony Porter.
Tony Porter is the cousin of Joe Burns from Thomas County Central.
Same your that's your linebacker corps Parkman Davidson and Wall the weakside linebacker number 45 secondary good let Gray definitely want to put a circle on number 21 and Ray-Ray Buchanan also back there.
And it's SunTrust starting lineups.
Tyron Jones giving the ball and he's over the 45 up to midfield and tackled and brought down inside the 50 yard line and it crosses midfield into Peachtree Ridge Territory.
They give right there to Tyron Jones and same thing we saw against Norcross great vision.
Cut.
And track and wanted.
To drag some folks gain at 21 before it was over with.
And right here you get a good ground level look, cuts it to his left, cuts it to his right, stops on a dime, gives a nickel change, make sure that the Peachtree Ridge try to catch up.
And that's going to be their task tonight.
Catching up with number one.
Dorian Pacman slowed him up so he could get some help, ut he went on for a good ride.
And finally they were able to corral Mr. Jones and it was.
Tony Porter, Dorian Pacman in on the tackle there.
And Jones on the carry, but a gain of one, if any at all.
That'll make it a second and ten for Dalton Raiders 711 in the opening quarter here in the Georgia Dome.
The Metro picks Corky Kelly classic the final game of the night.
Peachtree Ridge right at I should say Walton right at midfield against Peachtree Ridge here tonight.
The drop back in the fall is complete and the pass play from McCloud to his wide receiver on the right side.
Number two and let's football game.
John here's your replay watch that.
Cody Richardson.
And right they're going way up the ladder.
Flag on the play warning gives the offense third down.
Sideline warning again.
We got one apiece.
And we brought it up the flag.
Both both sides are eager to play football here tonight.
Somebody's got to keep somebody back.
John Nelson.
Inside.
Where's the get back?
A warning to Peachtree Ridge early and then Walton just got their warning.
So everybody's the coach.
Fleet and coach Rocky and find out who those get backs are.
All right.
Third and six for Walton at the Peachtree Ridge, 46 full house backfield.
That's McCloud in the shotgun.
Plenty of time and screen to Tyron Jones.
He has moved to the 40 over to 35 and down to the 30 of Peachtree Ridge.
They set up the screen nicely, job.
Gain of about 16.
And that's what you do.
You draw the defense in, you send your guy out or just watch Tyron Johnson a little flair right there.
McCloud, look at the blocking up front that begins.
And I think who.
Who right there, look to the left flair to the right two begins it out in front.
Tyron Jones can work in space and gets the big yardage.
First down for Holton and they continue to drive.
But Gibbs straight ahead to the number one tailback and that's Tyron Jones, the transfer who came over from Lasseter over the 30 inside the 30 about down to the Peach Tree Ridge, 28.
Gain of about two right up the middle.
Once again, you've seen them work the edges.
They try to work the middle.
This particular instance only worked for about six feet, but it gives him second.
Nick.
Quick moving first quarter here you see the numbers on Tyron Jones and JR five eight 191.
One at.
Five eight £91.
But I'll tell you what he is every bit of explosive.
And every bit as muscular to.
Chisel single man in the backfield Jones the fake now plenty of time as McCloud over the middle he has a receiver right there and that is Steve Stone Ron birds he had it and he dropped it.
So here's your second look on that McCloud play fake looking looking.
Romberg sound fundamentals there passing the marker to make sure that he was pass first down yardage to pick it up And here's your ground level look McCloud looking Bromberg hauls it in ut the impact knocks it loose.
And of course, when you get a good old fashioned impact from Christian Goodland, he's going to knock the ball loose for you, create a third and.
Eight.
As Jones said, third and eight for Walton, 515 in the opening quarter McCloud plenty of time in the pocket moves up in and decides he's going to take it gets over the 25 to the 20 close to first down yardage close two very close the first down yardage down and then we saw the ability of McCloud, look at it right here.
Tuck and run, tuck and run, watch.
The whole space opens.
Up right at him.
Everything from center guard gap was wide open, ended up with four Peachtree Ridge guys on top of him efore he ended up with a nine yard gain.
And Devin Davidson met him right there too.
Among others.
See the stick, but wasn't able to get a first down foot shot.
Tyron Jones cuts inside flags on the play Jukes and moves and gets over the 20 down about the 15.
Let's see if it'll stand at a blue among the.
Flags on the play.
Illegal shift on the offense.
Illegal shift.
So John when.
You're trying to get to the line of scrimmage in a hurry, sometimes you're in too.
Much.
And then you're right.
It was a quick count.
They got to the line of scrimmage.
Everybody was not set.
Now the question is, do you take the gain to go second and seven or push it back?
Go first and 50?
I got to believe that they'll play with that.
On the offense.
Five yard penalty.
First down is rocky Hidalgo, one of the one of the nice guys in this business.
Jeff, no doubt about it.
Yes, very intense individual.
But very confident to says we had Walton elieve in winning.
We don't believe in anything else and we believe the work.
We're going to work hard to get it done.
Jack McCloud to Jones straight ahead.
And more over the 20 spin move down to the 15 inside the ten.
So the ability of Jones to make things happen.
Nothing like a first and 15 and you pick up 14.
Let's see how many cuts he makes in this particular move.
Step back, one cut dodge tackle to three spin move and finally brought down after 14 yards.
Here's your ground level once again.
Cut, cut, cut.
Looks like a pair of scissors.
Cut and company you saw 17 over there day Ron Hill Darren Hill making the tackle second and one and short one four for Walton the handoff to Jones outside the cut pushes and moves and gets first down yardage inside the.
Five.
To about down to the four ut that should be that definitely was at the five, John.
And I'm just going to keep using the scissors line until we see something here.
Maybe we should just call it bounce.
Because of all the action.
I can add another two cuts as he worked it to the outside off a right tackle getting to the edge.
First and goal for Walton driving it right now it gets preached Peachtree ribs guilt tirade.
John Nelson joining us here on GPB.
The quick count to Jones inside getting over the five down to about the four.
Tony Porter again in on the tackle for Peachtree Ridge.
And once again, you see what Walton is doing.
Work the edge.
Work the edge.
Come up to metal to see if they're paying too much attention to the edges.
A little bit of a gain there for Walton on first down now second goal in five, there's fleet and there's the look right there.
He's looking at it in three dimensions, I'll tell you that right now.
You have a story about Mark Fleetwood.
The guys went to the same high school.
Yes.
We're oth Lakeside High Alarms, Lakeside Camp.
And Mark was known for soccer just as much as he was for football.
Second at six for Walton, McCloud fakes the handoff to Jones, ut goes on and gives it to Jones who gets over the five down to about the the three or four.
From Dickson in in the tackle that time.
And a nice ball control drive for Rocky Hidalgo said he wanted to keep it simple and like I said earlier you had an opportunity to see the Raiders scrimmage Norcross last week up and in Ryder Cup.
And Raider Valley.
And those people really support their football there.
They're going over a $600,000 renovation of Raider Valley, if I remember correctly, too.
It's looking really, really nice.
Third and goal at the five, the shotgun McCloud sees.
Opening he's in touchdown.
McCloud with the presence of mind John Nelson create.
Again right there seen it before he tucked it went this time he tucked it and went in for a touchdown first points on the board in the ballgame.
Nathan Dittmar on for the extra point for Walton.
Once again you see it Tuck first option's not there Go for it right up the middle.
No one's going to touch the snap.
It's up and it's good.
So it is Walton who draws first blood here tonight.
Our final game here at the Georgia Dome.
It's Walton seven in Peachtree Ridge.
Nil.
More to come here on GPB.
McCloud, a short five yard touchdown.
And Walton.
All aboard.
First seven, nothing, 204 left in the first quarter.
John a fast moving first quarter I met.
And now that you've officially jinxed us, I'm just going to talk about Tyran Jones and the impact that he had.
We knew what he was going to be able to do as a running back coming over from Lasseter.
He's going to be the bell cow for Walt and showed it in that first drive.
Getting most of everything in that you think yardage wise for the Raiders in that first drive for theirs.
You get a lot.
You get a look at Parker McCloud, who engineered that drive and took it himself on a solo act.
But, you know, again, when we had an opportunity to see them in the scrimmage against Norcross and I told you this, I thought Rocky Hill Bell going company were basically shown vanilla.
They didn't want anybody to see anything.
A ten yard run.
I stand corrected by Parker McLeod.
And the only thing Rocky Hidalgo was looking for, he was looking for depth in the secondary ecause he knows he's going to be facing teams later on in the year.
They're going to be running spread.
So you're going to need depth and have six or seven defensive backs ready to go.
And so that's what he was working on in that Norcross game up in Raider Valley that we saw a couple of weeks back.
All right.
Anthony Price will be kicking off to Matt Harris and Joe Horn Jr Walton out in front seven.
Nothing to all four left in the first quarter of play here at the Georgia Dome.
Gill Tyree along with John Nelson.
We are glad to have you with us here.
Prime time football here on the great GPB kickoff and it is taken by it looks like a matt Harris at his ten and he tries to scoot it up to the 11 and it will be stopped there.
Let's go downstairs to actually Maine lobster.
We say good evening, Ash.
Thanks, Johnny Gill.
Notice the smiles around me.
I'm down here on the sidelines with four very special cheerleaders, seniors from one high school who have never before set foot on the turf inside the Georgia Dome.
Hey, ladies, tell us what it's like cheering here for the very first time.
I'm just really excited for our senior year and to see all our senior boys play the energy at the stadium is just incredible.
I think it's awesome ecause all the professionals normally play on this field and now we're here, so that's really cool.
And now you're here and guess who else is here?
We've got some members of the professional team, the Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders, ladies, I know some you cheer and high school.
Any wisdom you'd like to impart to your younger sisters here?
Definitely.
I'm taking this moment.
Just remember every moment.
Just have fun, smile.
And that's pretty much it.
The most important thing is feed off your fans.
They're here.
They're here.
They're.
They're your support.
So have fun, smile, enjoy.
We're going to go back upstairs to John and Gilbert.
John Gill, if you ever want to quit your day jo now I know what it takes to be an Atlanta Falcons cheerleader.
I'm going to leave that to the professionals.
Ashley, thank you very much.
There's no way.
No way.
Thank you.
Actually, the Andre Atwater Advanced the football during that time and got a seven yard gain.
He'll make it second and three for Peachtree ribs.
They trail in this football game seven nothing here at the Georgia Dome.
Atwater continued to move his feet.
If they hand off to Atwater and he takes it himself and tries to advance it up close to the 20 at the Peachtree Ridge 19, another look at Coach Fleetwood, the second.
Play in a row.
DeAndre Atwater has taken a lick.
The first time it was after a seven yard gain.
He kept his legs moving for another two.
And then Billy Best fakes a handoff.
Atwater got popped again, ut Best hung on to the football.
Let's see what we're talking about with the white hat.
Penalty on, of course, on Peachtree Ridge with another man in like.
Yes, that would take it ack to the eight.
And of course, we talked about the name Atwater De'Andre, the son of the great Steve Atwater, former Arkansas back and.
Thousand, like on the offense, the offense did reach the line in the game so it will be first down.
Dave alston, ref here tonight.
Another look at coach fleetwood's trying to find out what was going on and where was a miscommunication.
But it'll be a first down and ten for Peachtree Ridge acked up in their own territory, trailing in this football game.
Seven Nothing here on GPB the Wolves out of the shotgun It's fast moving up to the right side finds his receiver there and it is complete to Ahmad Harris the flanker.
It is.
Close.
To a first down.
In fact, it may be indeed a first down.
And it is.
You see the replay.
Jon Nelson set it up for us.
There's the rollout right there, throwing it right into the zone.
Ahmad Harris with the nice catch in front of one defender ehind the other designed roll out that time by best again est drops it right among three defenders a Walton for the first down yardage.
And Darren Blaylock sort of low on a stick first and ten for best the quick out to wide receiver number six for peach tree Ridge.
Again there's one half of the Blaylock times there's Darren at eight.
Technically listed as a rovers Brother Zach 18 in your scorecard listed as the free safety.
So expect eight and 18 to be very, very busy this evening with this offensive Peachtree.
And the Pats complete to drum go and that'll be make it second and nine now under a minute to go and sack under 30 seconds to go 17 ticks here in the first quarter.
And this could be our final play of the first quarter here at the Georgia Dome, Peachtree Regional.
All best out of the shotgun.
The pitch.
That's the Andre Atwater over the 25 over the 30.
But it's shoved back y Zach Blaylock.
Another one of those Blaylock twins.
Jim Hogue, also number 11 in on it as well, Dedrick Sundby.
So pick a linebacker, pick a defensive back.
They were all in on the play.
Somebody is going to need a helmet adjustment from delivering all those sticks in the first quarter.
Helmet malfunction.
Look at the one of the blocks.
And of course, there's Fleet coach Fleetwood of Peachtree Ridge and that is going to be the end of our first quarter with the score.
While the Seven and Peachtree Ridge Nil will be back with more on GPP the touchdown here by McLeod to give Peachtree Ridge the trailing the Walton Raiders get the touchdown here seven nothing Walton will be back That's John Hollywood Halloween I should say a little early.
Hollywood and Halloween glitter.
A little wacky jabberwocky from the Peachtree Ridge as we start the second quarter.
Third and six for Peachtree Ridge.
Best Southern shotgun looking long for his receiver on the right side.
That's Joe Horn Jr and defending on the play.
A.J.
Collins on the joust.
And was with him step by step.
John Lee.
The atmosphere here for this football classic has been unbelievable.
Always tremendous.
And as someone who has watched this thing grow and what Dave Hunter has done is just on and he doesn't get enough credit.
And wherever we talk about how this started and there were teams that would come from all around the state, Camden County would make appearances, park these made appearances in the past.
And, you know, now with it eing a win at Showcase Lookout.
Recovered fumble by Peachtree Ridge and recovered but.
Harris Lamont Harris has had a very busy 12 minutes and 16 seconds and that's out of cap it off so far he's the gunner sees the deflection pounces right on it convenient hop and he is all over it Cody Richardson had it looked like he lost it.
Ahmad Harris jumps right on it.
Primo field position for the Lions at the Walton 20.
And that's a key turnover because it gives Peachtree Ridge an opportunity and don't think for a minute.
Ferentz gets Peachtree Ridge five yard penalty first down quite.
Another penalty flag.
John Nelson.
Once again was that was that get back coach.
They warned them and now they're going to pay the price.
And you see the disgust of Coach Fleetwood telling the guys, get back.
That's a come on now look.
And that'll back up after the turnover the fumble recovery y Peachtree Ridge that'll set up now first and 15 and the ball on the Walton 25 the Lions trail in this football game seven nothing.
And we got got a pistol set now for Peachtree Ridge and.
Philly best out of the shotgun looking done fine anybody tries to escape ut it's met y by a slew of Alton defenders.
Kelly Brooks was there and he got a whole lot of help.
Brooks having a busy night, playing two way for Rocky Hidalgo Billy Best fakes the handoff to Atwater looking tries to come up into the pocket and runs into traffic There's your ground level Great work y the guys in the truck top to bottom.
All day long you guys have been rocking the house and Cubano.
You saw him in their 79 to fourth best out of that pocket, and then Brooks was over there to clean it up.
Second and 24, Peachtree Ridge trying to make something out of that turnover.
Best complete to Joe Horn Jr to the 2025 2015 hauled down and knocked out of bounds at about the wall 1010.
Darren Blaylock with the hot collar to knock him out of bounds.
But all this was was a simple little flare route he had three to the top est sees the player right there.
Joe Horn Jr finds his opening cuts it back to the outside.
Kelly Brooks in pursuit Blaylock with the toss out of bounds at the 13 ground level One more time best looking looking finds the flare great timing route gets rid of one tackle Texas and out of bounds.
Excellent job by our guys in the truck here just outstanding.
Let's say Oh yeah it's got to be the shoes money.
Is it like daddy?
Well, one of the things that Joe Hart Senior told Joe Horn Jr about being a wide receiver other than stay humble, always watch the ball.
The spread and the inside route and the ball is complete and right there best was able to connect look like Ahmad was it Ahmad Harris Yes.
It was.
And it was again, Darren Blaylock.
What do we say about the boy likes being busy tonight.
Oh, their dad was a point guard in the pros.
They're going to have to be the point guard on that back line ecause you see the spread that Peachtree Ridge is doing, their run and spread pistol, which could mean you could have as many as five receivers out in the pattern.
And there's best right now eight for his first 860 yards ut once two controlled passing game that they're running so far with Peachtree Ridge you got three to the top one down low with motion.
You're going to need all these bodies for one.
Second and goal to give to Atwater He has room and he's in for the touchdown and no flags.
Last year DeAndre Atwater averaged six yards a carry takes it into the endzone this time for Peachtree his first points of the 2011 year.
Let's look at it.
There's your motion from Harris handoff.
Big gap cut right there at left guard and into the end zone.
And Kelly Brooks missed tackle Blaylock omits tackle the end result a touchdown to tie this football game up pending the extra point from Connor Rolo it's up It looks good and it is good.
Seven Oh, now let's go downstairs to our Nikki Noto.
We say Hello, Nikki.
Hello, guys.
Well, you know, we know that both of these teams have their fair share of famous dads.
And you can't mention the famous father son duo without mentioning the.
Atwater's and son Andre.
Is the stud running back on the field right now for the Lions?
And Dad, Steve was a first round pick for the Broncos during the John Elway era.
We're talking his dad is an eight time Pro Bowler, two time Super Bowl champ and a member of the NFL's nineties all-decade team.
So, you know, these youngsters definitely have a go to source for wisdom and guidance.
I think it's playing out tonight.
No doubt about that.
And what Steve Atwater does, he doesn't necessarily, you know, hover around practice at all.
He's the kind of guy that literally in talking to coach Fleetwood, Steve Atwater does the blood work and draws the lines on the field, does all the grunt work.
He's being a father and being a part of the Peachtree Ridge Program and letting his son forge his own identity.
And you know, what a better way, what a better way to be a dad than do that.
You know what I'm saying, John?
I mean, the ability to stay back and stay out of it, don't micromanage.
And you're there and you want it.
You want your son, you want your children to enjoy the experience.
And we saw that earlier today.
We've seen Ray Buchanan senior actually reaking out the Peachtree Ridge Colors.
I was looking for the dog collar, ut he didn't bring it with him.
Cody Richardson and Tyran Jones, Deep four, wanted to receive this kick by Rouleau and it goes out of bounds.
And then the end zone and it will be first and ten for Walton at their own 20.
Let's take a look at the Peachtree Ridge resume.
John Nelson.
Obviously at the top of the ladder, state champs 26 the tie at Cantrell Stadium against McKittrick Blair Armstrong getting Peachtree Ridge a state title.
Blair is now the head coach at North Forsyth.
I think the fourth season of their existence.
You talk about the building of a program, getting them there to that championship in oh six, state finalist in 2000, eight quarter finals three of the last five seasons and get that region title in 2008 as well.
So a lot of quality work done in a very, very short time then ball personal foul gets white.
Another flag, a dead ball foul against Peachtree Ridge and that'll help Walt in the big D. A lot of flags here today and all these football games, John, it has to be it has to be first game itis.
Executive producer Steve Graham putting it very very well in our ear first game itis.
Thank you Steve Graham first and 10/1 and ten for Walton at their own 35 tie football game here at the Georgia Dome McCloud under center flips it out on the right side incomplete to Tyron Jones and defending a lot of people defending over there from Peachtree Ridge down namely Ray Buchanan Jr and of course, he committed to Arkansas and will play for Bobby Petrino right.
Here on this very network earlier this evening.
And that connection that Ray Senior has with Louisville, Petrino has with Louisville, now that it's shifted to Arkansas, Bobby Petrino, I talked to Ray Senior.
He said that Petrino, bottom line, gets kids ready to play.
All year.
In the spread.
A handoff straight ahead.
And that looks like that's Kelly Brooks who takes it straight ahead, moves it over to 35, close to the 40 yard line.
They'll they'll be about a gain of a gain of three to make it about to make it third down and seven.
And I just want to to piggyback on what you talked about, Ray Buchanan, what a wonderful dad to and watching his son make a decision here tonight.
You see the numbers on Parker McLeod.
Just getting warmed up.
One or two for 19 two runs for 14 including that touchdown.
Early on.
Out of the pistol.
The screen to Tyron Jones the excellent block Tyron Jones advances it over the 40 gets it about to the 40 to.
Tyron Jones Got to that play so fast he almost ran over his quick tackle Harrison Davis.
There's Tyron Jones.
Let's watch it again.
Swing pass off to your left.
Right there.
There's the hit little push knocks McCloud to the ground.
They run hill on a stop.
Ryan Dixon introducing Parker McCloud to this new Atlanta Falcons turf that they have here in the building and Dixon hoping that McCloud will make that his home with what the defense has anything to say about it, it seems.
John Melson I mean, you could say we have a timeout in this football game, John.
You you look at the Walton resume, we talked a lot about Coach Labarga and what he's tried to do, and and he succeeded a friend of yours and Ed Dudley.
And you talk about the state semifinalist run that they made in 2004 and 2007 six region championships.
The last one was three seasons ago.
But they've made the playoffs in the last nine of the last ten years at Dudley like we sat down at where counting one eight, 15, 13 years.
But the St Pius grad was at the helm at Raider Valley in Jeff here.
It was his first head coaching job back in 1989.
He was eight and four.
Jeff Herron, we talked about get back coaches earlier in this game.
Jeff Herron was Jimmy Dorsey's Get Back coach is one of his first jobs for Jeff Herron, one alternate going from Cobb County to the Athens area for his first couple of jobs.
Now you see Rocky Hidalgo at the helm here for the folks in Raider Valley and off his shoulder, Tripp Davis, the offensive coordinator and associate head coach.
And when it comes to offensive talents and coaching staffs, Trip is definitely one of those fair.
Catch taken there by a matt Harris.
40 yard punt, no return right now with your new set of instructions.
Billy Best coming back out onto the field.
And Billy Betts really managing this football game.
And that's.
What Coach Fleetwood was looking.
For.
Eight for eight right here.
Right.
Find your opening.
Make sure that the pass is complete.
And if you've jinxed them, I'm coming right after you.
819 Until the Metroplex halftime show with Mark Harmon and Company to give to DeAndre Atwater gets over the 20 to about the 22 flag on the play.
Gain of about.
Yet another flag.
Let's see if it stands.
What's the phrase that was coined first game itis.
By Steve Graham?
Of course.
Yes.
And Coach Fleetwood looks like he knows it's on.
It's like he knows it's on him.
They're pushing Pete through its back, which would signify that the penalties on college holding offense.
Ten yard penalty still first down.
First and 20 from the 12 now.
And a long 20 ecause you were pinned back.
I was going to say, is there no Tony?
But there is a short 20.
What, 19 and three quarters is a short Tony.
Tomato.
Tomato, right.
I just figured I would ask.
We have a tight football game here.
Seven All Peachtree Ridge with the football ust out of the shotgun looks over the right side, has a receiver there and a nice leaping grab over there on the right side and that is Joe Horn Jr. Looks like it was over Cody Richardson that time and let's just show you where est puts this football timing round knows that it's going to be right there puts it in a place where only Joe Horn Junior can catch it.
Richardson with the push out of bounds, great control, great eyesight, making sure that those pink stay in bounds for the catch gain of 32.
And Harry Obiora with the great block tip y Bess some time to complete that pass the horn a first down for Peachtree Ridge close to midfield they give straight ahead.
Lamont Harrison gets you three feet maybe four.
Thing about Peachtree Ridge the ability right now to run the football with without water.
With you name.
And exactly plenty and we talk about add water.
You also talked about the the aforementioned Ahmad Harris and you add obiora in there that's thing is really crazy for them in terms of their offensive capabilities spread set lone receiver.
I mean lone back is DeAndre Atwater.
The ball is tipped and intercepted by Walton and Walton has the football and the intended receiver over there.
It looked like it was Joe Horn Jr. Dedrick Sundy with the pick and return.
Exactly Dedrick Sun with the interception and you see it right there John he got the tip and any time that ball is live after the tip you see it right there and the ability.
To part of practice every single day, run the tip, drill and you see somebody walk down the far sideline looking right into the eyes of Billy best flips it right out deflection Sunday picks it up.
Thank you very much.
I'm going to head the other way with it for about 20 yards in a first down for Walton at the Peachtree Ridge 33.
And that was something something that Rocky Hidalgo told us, you know, in preparation for this football game, the turnovers and field position and special teams would be among the keys that it's football game.
And we've seen it right now.
McCloud tried to get the snap out quickly.
And penalty flags up 646 Start.
On the offense.
False starts penalty go first down.
So that'll move Walton back and again another opportunity.
When you have a chance, John, you get a turnover and then he shoots ourselves in the foot.
Here's the man right there that's created the situation for Walton.
Wasn't.
Where's the celebration?
Where's the thinking?
I just got you an interception.
I'm sitting here alone on the edge of the bench.
Dietrich suddenly with the eye t and the penalty will make it first and 15 for Walton at the Peachtree rates 39 McCloud the handoff to Toronto he's going.
Ahead He's gone ten five Touchdown Walton.
John they made quick work of the turnover Jones able to see the opening and go in for the touchdown.
And that's what you want to you want to take full advantage of a turnover power set Kelly Brooks lead block Tyron Jones finds the hole.
No one touches it past the 28 yard line running away from the Peachtree Ridge coverage for the six.
Bit moron for the extra point.
It looks good and it is good What the score Walton 40 means Peachtree read seven thanks to the touchdown by that gentleman One more look Tyrann Jones getting in the end zone for the Raiders straight ahead.
The opening and Walton up by seven as we approach halftime We'll be right back on GPB.
Tyron Jones, the man of the hour, the touchdown set up by the turnover.
John Nelson, take us through.
You know, you sit there, you look at Tyree Jones, instant benefits for Walton right there, gets the handoff from McCloud.
You see the whole one miss tackle to miss tackle three.
And then no one else gets to him from Peachtree, which by the time he gets to the end zone running away from coverage for the six.
Now, Walton up 14 seven approaching the halfway point here in the second quarter.
The four four speed to get him in the end zone and that'll give the Raiders a 14 seven lead.
And already Cobb County here tonight over Gwinnett County the wins right now you look at McEachern win and you look at last year with and the opportunity for Walton to make it three out of four and of course Griggs Grayson defeated Martell the opening game here to the day and this wonderful football classic we have a touchback.
It's a peach tree.
We'll take over first in ten at their own 20.
But we can't say enough for what Dave Hunter and Crew have done.
This Metroplex quirky, cult classic.
John, did you ever imagine that this would be one the premier college football classics to open up this season in the country?
I mean, it has completely developed that way over time.
And I think that since Georgia is a top five state for high school football in the country, to have this kind of a showcase, it's a natural.
And once again, you get the opportunity to show the rest of the country what can be done here in Georgia y having a showcase like this with eight of the top teams in the top classification.
And it has grown and grown and grown.
And like I said, Dave Hunter and company can't get enough credit for what they're doing for high school football here, not only in metro Atlanta, ut also in the great state of Georgia, first and ten for Peachtree Ridge.
And again, flags.
It's been a night and a day of yellow.
Dead ball, delay of game, offense, five yard penalty.
Still first down.
And Mark Fleetwood not happy That'll push the Peachtree Ridge Lines further back and they have an even longer feel now they trail in this football game.
14 seven.
You just joined us.
Jones gave Alton a 14 seven lead.
636 until we joined Mark Harmon and Company with the Metro Picks Halftime Show to give to DeAndre Atwater, who gets it up over the 2025, up to the 26.
So see how many they give him here after the penalty.
Nine yard gain for Atwater.
And we'll talk about a hard nosed football player.
Atwater, cut back.
Look at those legs.
His legs keep moving.
Darren Blaylock with the tackle to save getting the first down but it's second manageable now second about five and a half.
Second and six to be exact.
John Nelson 606 to go in the second and the second quarter efore we get to halftime best head to the Andre Atwater runs over right guard pushes his way to about close to the 30 yard line that was definitely a gain of about four which brings up about a third and two.
Get a look at Steve Atwater son and Mark Fleetwood would tell you his kid is all that and then some unselfish runs, Hart said.
We're going to utilize number 27 in a lot of ways, and they've definitely done that here in the first half five, nine.
£190.
And once again, a lot of that is muscle and brings.
It third and a short one to give in the fake to Atwater, the keeper y best he takes it over the 30 up to the 30 to enough for the first down.
And that plays work once before in the first quarter after Cody Allen had a handful of DeAndre Atwater who best hung on to the football and get a seven yard gain in the first quarter.
Got the first down yardage this time around.
That'll make it first and ten.
The ball for the lions of Peachtree Ridge at their own 32 Oh, you see Horn and Amod Harris to the near side, full house backfield ehind est out of the shotgun under pressure.
And it's swarmed under and tackle Zach Blaylock there and on the staff.
And he had some help to John Nelson.
Sebastian Cabella part of the help from the nose Blake Monks the speed from the outside linebacker position meeting it best for the loss of yardage looks like it's about a six or seven yard loss best as you play fake has to try to tuck and run and there's Caballo right there Munce making sure that Best doesn't go any further.
Another look from behind you're seeing with best to seeing you going to try to run for it has to stop want to think about changing his direction could not sack loses yardage takes it all the way back to the 25.
And a nice job by Sebastian Cavallo to shed that blocker to get in to help the sack on best ets those right.
Finds his receiver on the right side it's complete to number.
19.
Horn.
And that is Darian Horn another one of those horns.
And once again you see a zone clear out here.
Best on the run right there going it in etween the two defensive backs Blaylock and Richardson forcing Horn out of bounds, ut not after a big game to create.
Third and short.
Third and three to be exact.
And 3 minutes and 30 seconds and counting until halftime.
Walton 14.
Peachtree Ridge seven.
Best finds his receiver in the slot.
And that was Ahmad Harris.
And all that was was a quick read.
Get to the marker, get the first down.
Justin Brooks there for Walton.
You know, the tackle on that was, you know, like when you're playing ball up, you sit there and you say, just go to the marker.
That's all that was.
Go to the marker, get to completion, get the first down, move the chain.
First and ten for Peachtree Ridge.
We're going to take a look at the numbers, as you see right there on Billy Best not of 1097 yards and a pick.
A lot of folks thinks that 9% grates out to an.
A-minus in football.
It's an A-plus.
And that pick, of course, led to a touchdown.
Another flag on the play, John.
Tom at Blue.
Tune in to GPB is new season of the Georgia Traveler from the mountains to the Coast.
Our traveling team explores the state's most beautiful, exciting, unique treasures.
Georgia travelers don't miss it this time Sundays in prime time at 7 p.m. on GPB.
One of your favorite shows, Jon Nelson.
On GPB, as always.
And the fact that we've been able to be a part of that particular program as well, to kind of share the experience of Georgia Traveler, this group this past season, getting a chance to go down to Hawkins Ville and catch the harness racing facility down there, the one of the few of its kind in this half of the United States on this side of the Mississippi.
And you did that.
You did that report.
You are a traveler yourself.
And rode in a sulky with the full get up behind the horse.
And it's something that I can check off my bucket list once and for all.
The multi-talented Jon Nelson.
What?
That I could drive a sulky.
Yeah, yeah.
I wasn't driving the soft yellows coat piloting that the horse was driving me.
I guarantee You.
All right coach Fleetwood of course, talking to his troops.
The thrill of this football game.
14 seven to Walton to 57 until we get to halftime, our final game here on this beautiful day of high school football here in the great state of Georgia.
Billy Best with the snap, looks for his receiver in the flat and that's Joe Horn.
Junior escapes the tackle and gets out of bounds over there defending is Darren Blaylock.
And literally all that was was 2 seconds find your spot settle in the zone and throw and that's what coach Fleetwood was looking for, for this offense to get into a rhythm, even if it was a sideways pass, something very, very quick just to get best into a rhythm.
You see how fleetwood's looking at this game right now.
He's trying to get that offense into that rhythm to equal the score.
Then since he's down 14 seven at midfield.
Second and four for Peachtree Ridge Pump fake by bass.
Looking long has a receiver out there ut overthrows him And that was Joe Horn Junior.
I like the pump fake to freeze everybody and then he wanted to find Horn who was streaking down the right side to see if he could get free.
Cody Richardson had short coverage.
Blalock came around the back for the deep coverage.
Ball was just thrown a little out of bounds.
Incomplete pass, ut now it sets up about a third and four.
For Peachtree Ridge, trailing in this football game, 14, seven, as John said, a third and short very close to midfield and getting into Walton territory receivers Harris and Horn to the near side flags and whistles and that seems to be the operative word.
However delay a game offense by Griffin.
It's game one.
So now that sets you up in about a third and nine offensive line is going to need to pass protect a little longer than they have on the quicker routes that Peachtree Ridge has been able to accomplish with best so far this ballgame.
And move him out.
And not only that, but Max protect as well and give him some help and if his receivers he has a lot of good ones here tonight are able to get free and he flips them to the near side.
For Harris drum go and best the handoff and he fakes it and then he found over the middle.
He was looking for his receiver in the middle John and over there the ball was incomplete.
On the drag route it was drum go and here's your replay on the look fake the handoff to Atwater designed roll out right throwback left in his hands couldn't hang on to it would had the first down yardage instead fourth down and nine here it is one more block the drag has to drag out completely wide open right there just dropped the ball.
So that it will force Peachtree Ridge to punt.
And among those two receives is Tyron Jones, a man of the hour.
He'll take.
The punt much to the it and almost let's see how they're going to call zone looks like it.
Could be a safety.
John or is it forward progress at the one.
He stumbled and staggered and he was able to get it out of the end zone.
But let's see, the referees, the convert are huddling and conversing over this to see ut Johnny stumble he lost or.
They're going to call touchback here.
The receiver never had possession of the football, therefore it is a touchback.
All right.
Let's take a look at the replay, John.
Let's take a look now.
All right.
Jones and Richardson oth looking Jones will end up with it, trying to grab it inside the six yard line.
And that's where Peachtree Ridge was thinking that they had the safety with the tackle in the end zone.
But the officials saying that he did not have possession of his foot and they call it a touchdown.
Walton takes over.
At their own.
Thomas McCloud would give to the number 11.
That's our guest, Jim Hogue.
Jim Hogue all over the 15.
And another flag.
We're going to take it back.
It looks like the penalty is a long.
See what the man in the white hat calls here.
Sideline interference.
Offense, five yard penalty, the first sideline warning.
Sideline interference again.
Now it's two and two.
But what you've also seen in that particular play before the flag is the depth at running back that Rocky Hidalgo is more than happy to show.
You got your first dose of Jim Hogue.
You've seen Kelly Brooks, you've seen Tyron Jones.
Not afraid to use any of them in that position or Hogue is more of the bruising back in that set listed as a flanker this time out.
Kelly Brooks at the tail line.
Kelly Brooks alone back behind.
McLeod gets the pick.
She's over the 35 the 36 and we have a Peach Tree Ridge line.
Shake it up number 40.
Devin Davidson.
There's your toss right there.
Kelly Brooks tucks it back inside to miss tackles.
Tripped right there, 13 yard gain.
There's another look, Brooks straight ahead, running.
And that's what Brooks and Jim Hoke bring to Walton is that straight ahead, bruising style where Tyron Jones is the complete opposite.
He's the fastball where the changeups are.
Brooks and Hogue.
You see Devon Davidson on the sidelines taking off the taking off the field first and ten at their own.
35 is Walton.
Straight ahead, is Jim Hogue over left guard?
And you see training staff of Peachtree Ridge looking over Devin Davidson.
Michael Ward having to limp off for Walton, too, means that Thomas Bashara will come in to fill in at quick guard.
Under a minute to go and counter as you.
Approach halftime.
Walton out in front 47 over Peachtree Ridge second and seven from their own 38 the year is beginning to hold and he is brought down.
Over there was Tony Porter.
Sean even also involved.
He even played both ways last year for Peachtree Ridge.
You want to try to focus in the middle of that defense and you see why Jim Hoke trying for the push off doesn't happen.
Even great solo tackle right there.
Look at it one more time from down low Hoke trying to get to his right and bust away power versus power even wins that time.
1/2 to go John and that'll be this will be the next to come out play before the end of the first half they call the timeout.
Peachtree Ridge using their first 1/2 to go.
And of course Mark Harmon and company getting ready for that MetroPCS halftime show.
Marky Mark and Company have done an outstanding job bringing its features and very heartwarming feature by you, John.
It's the whole Ringgold Walton, the whole Ringgold heritage situation with everything that happened there late April, all the looks that we've had there, Mark Holding court down low.
He's getting everything squared away.
And the are you smarter?
Are you smarter.
Than your student body with the.
Principles?
You know, it's a cast of thousands of GPA.
So have you heard some of those.
Questions, people in the.
World, have you had some of those questions that they call outrageous?
I wouldn't have no chance in answering any of those correctly and answering all pretty much wrong.
You know, John, we ought to have a game show order to be the game host because I certainly couldn't answer the questions.
I'll grant you that.
One ticket to go before it's like they're going to take their name and they're going to take a lead and.
Parker McCloud is going to do just that.
Successful first half for Walton.
You've seen the change ups in the running game.
Tyran Jones being the showcase ack the fast ball for Walton.
We've seen him make a boatload of cuts in the first half.
Let's send it down to Nikki with coach at Elko.
That's right, coach 646 left in the second quarter.
You had a little tip drill action interception set you up for a great touchdown drive.
How is that going to benefit you heading into halftime?
Well, we kind of return the favor.
They return the favor to us because we gave them one down there on the ball pawn.
So, you know, I said at the beginning of the game, whoever wins special teams and turnovers is going to win in this game.
And right now we're playing to a draw.
Absolutely, Coach.
Well, good luck for the rest of the game markets.
Back to you.
Nikki, thanks so much.
We're at halftime of the Walton Peachtree Ridge game.
Walton leading that 14 to 7.
When we come back, we've got a big MetroPCS halftime show for you.
We've got marching bands, we've got principals, we've got special guests.
So stay with us right.
Here on.
GPB.
Welcome back to the MetroPCS halftime show live from the Georgia Dome.
We've got a big show coming up for you right here at halftime.
Welcome back, everybody.
We are live here at the Georgia Dome.
Time now to check in with Kenny, Carissa, Howard and some interesting tidbits of information about Peachtree Ridge High School in her hey did you know segment.
Hey did you know that Peachtree Ridge is a Georgia School of Excellence earning the title for making continuous gains in reading and math the school is in the top 10% of all Georgia schools.
Their wrestling team won back to back state championships in 2010 and 2011.
The boys lacrosse team called the Gwinnett County Championship for 2011.
And did you know that oth the boys and girls tennis team won in their region for the 2010 2011 season?
High school football had two championships right there at the time I'm talking I.
Welcome back to the Metro BCS halftime show alongside now's Kevin Pash line, the principal at Peachtree Ridge High School.
You've got a big, big year in front of you this year.
We do.
We've been off to a great start.
We're real excited.
Our whole community is really excited to welcome Coach Mark Sleet with as a head football coach and Mr. Andrews as a new band director.
And we've turned out really.
Well tonight in support of them with.
Great school spirit and pride.
And that's something we're trying to build across our entire cluster.
You know, from a principal standpoint, what does it mean for you to be a of the quirky Cal classic here at the Georgia Dome to kick off your football season?
Well, it's huge because you want to.
And you season here whenever.
Possible.
And I'll tell you that this is such a class.
Organization operation.
To be a part of it is a real honor and privilege to find school systems, eight outstanding schools.
And we're really pleased to be playing a school as accomplished is Walton High School.
It's a kind of legacy we're working on uilding.
Again, we're only nine.
This is our ninth year in existence and we have much to be proud of.
But we want to really leave a legacy year in and year out for future students to follow.
And I.
Know one thing to be proud of is you guys won the whole enchilada, the state championship back in 2000.
And six.
That's true.
We did.
And we're really looking forward to another shot at it.
Coach Fleetwood and his team is dedicated to communities rallying around them and we look forward to many good years of athletic and academic and extracurricular success.
All right.
It's that part, our program that all the principals have been loving so far.
Are you smarter than your students?
Pick out a question from the Georgia graduation, you know, test here we go.
Let's see what it is.
High school graduation test.
It's in social studies.
What was the importance of the Monroe Doctrine of 1823?
Was it a it reinforced tensions etween pro-slavery and anti-slavery factions in the United States, be it authorize the creation of a permanent professional military to defend the United States.
See it establish the U.S. policy of preventing other nations from interfering in Latin America?
Or did it proclaim the U.S. intention of expanding its political orders westward to the Pacific Ocean?
And now see, see, you're absolutely right.
Prevent it established the U.S. policy of preventing other nations from interfering in Latin America.
So you are smarter than your students.
Congratulations.
I'm not I'm just trying to hang in there with this incredibly smart group.
All right.
Let's check out now with the Roaring Lions marching and of Peachtree Ridge, 80 strong.
They're playing a theme from James Bond.
Great job from the Peachtree Ridge Band.
Now, all of today's games on GPB television have been an interactive event.
Everybody is chatting up a storm on the Internet, and they've been chatting it up all day long.
And Jackie, Britain has been monitoring that chat a lot of they have been talking about on the Internet.
All right, Mark, thanks.
We want to make sure that everyone is still tuned in to our primary focus, which has been about the heat that has affected so many people in the south this summer.
That's our primary poll.
So you answer the question, should there be a standard when it comes to dealing with the heat factor?
And if so, what should it be?
We're also talking about the family affair that we've got going on on the field.
And so many people are chatting about the second generation players that we've got down there.
We've got Mookie Blaylock, a former Atlanta hawk who has his twins, are out there tonight playing for the Walton Raiders.
Also, we've got Ray Buchanan Jr, who just announced his confirmation for his commitment to Arkansas.
His father was a former Atlanta Falcon.
Also, we've got Joe Horn, his dad played for the Saints and our very own Atlanta Falcons.
Last we've got DeAndre and Parris Atwater who play for the Peach Tree Ridge.
Their dad is Steve Atwater, who played for the Denver Broncos.
So be sure to keep the chat going with us online.
We love all the comments, so keep them coming at GPB, dawg slash sports.
Mark, back to you.
Jacki, thanks much.
Time now to check in with the weather and to our meteorologist, Kristie Warrillow, who's been doing an outstanding job all day long, keeping us posted on the weather Kristie.
Thank you, Mark.
And in fact, Jacqui, I'd like to talk to you about what the results are of that poll.
I'd like to know what people think regarding how to stay safe during high temperatures and playing football.
But today, we did not have to worry about high temperatures within the dome.
It's been comfortable, 72 degrees in here earlier this afternoon that we topped off about 96 degrees.
We did have a couple of showers rumble through the area, but other than that, we're actually clear on the radar right now.
We're looking at partly cloudy skies outside 80 degrees.
The winds are from the northwest at five miles per hour.
Taking a look outside the radar has seen that our last thunderstorm has it has fizzled out.
It has completely dissipated away.
So we are clear outside on the radar going through the rest of the game at halftime.
We're looking at 80 degrees outside.
And then later on tonight, as we're going into the fourth quarter, getting ready to go on home, we'll see the temperature decrease into the mid seventies.
So as you're going out and you're going out and about and especially going from the dome out to your cars, we're seeing that that will continue to have partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 70.
So beautiful time to be watching football.
It's going to be gorgeous weather as we're leaving the dome crazy.
Thanks so much.
Time now to check back in with Kiyoshi Howard and she's got some interesting, fun facts about Walton High School in her hey did you know segment.
Hey did you know that Walton High School currently offers 23 varsity sports and has won more than 40 championships?
The athletic program has won the Director's Cup three times.
The boys lacrosse and soccer teams are 2011 Region five champ and their boys tennis team is the 2011 region winner.
And did you know that for the past two years, Walton High School has raised more money than any other school in Cobb County to?
Support Relay for Life.
Thanks, Joshua.
We now welcome in the principal from all time high school, Judy McNeal.
Judy, thanks for joining us tonight.
Well, thank you for having me.
It's very exciting to be here and to be football in the Dome.
Your raiders are up 14 to 7.
So far so good.
Absolutely.
We're very excited about this team.
Tell us a little bit about what's going on at Walton High School right now for the upcoming 2011 school year?
Oh, we have a lot of exciting things going on as we start all of our academic studies.
We had an Advanced Placement Summer Institute for teachers, and so our teachers are ready.
We offer 30 advanced placement courses, all of our courses are very good and the endless hours we do, we try to offer every student a opportunity to be excellent in their interests and what they like to do.
You know, I was over at your school and we did a little interview over there at the time when we're covering some spring football at Walton High School there.
Are some big expectations for your football team this year?
There certainly are, and we have some great players, so let's hope that they have a great season and we don't have injuries and and the boys, we want the best for our students and they've worked hard.
And so I want a good season for them.
Well, Judy, it is that time.
It is time to play.
Are you smarter than your students?
So let's pick one out of the helmet and a thanks to the Cal Longhorns for donating their helmet to us.
Okay.
You've got one in social studies.
Which term best describes the period during which white males suffered greatly expanded in the United States.
Was it a manifest destiny?
Be the Enlightenment.
See the Great Awakening or d Jacksonian Democracy?
I think it's D. You are absolutely right Jacksonian Democracy and you are smarter than your students.
So congratulations on that one.
Well, thank you.
But I have awfully smart students.
I don't I don't know if my physics team would agree with that.
Well, I know you have a lot of good degrees, so I mean, we'll get.
Oh, no, I didn't know.
Half of these.
They are difficult questions, there's no doubt.
But listen, I appreciate you for coming on and good luck the of the school year.
Thank you.
All right.
Judy McNeal, the principal at Walton High School.
Now we move on the metro picks.
Corky, Carl Classic is just the beginning of a big sports season here on GPB and GPB Dawgs Sports.
We're going to broadcast the game on television every Friday night and on the web as well.

And if you like JB's presentation of high school football, you can show your y texting GPB a $10 donation.
All you have to do is text the letters GPB to the number 85 944 message and data may apply that's 80 5944.
And be sure you say yes.
We're going to take a short break on GPB, ut we'll be right back with more.
At the half time Peachtree Ridge, Walton half time with the Metroplex, Corky Cal class.
Welcome back.
We are live at the Georgia Dome with the Metro Park's Corky Carroll Classic Halftime Show.
It's 14 seven Walton on top of Peachtree Ridge.
And we're ready to go.
Now, we've been chronicling that disastrous Catoosa County tornado all throughout the day.
Now, John Nelson recently went back to Ringgold High School to see how things were progressing up there, and he took a tour of the school with the principal, Sharon Vaughn.
I can hardly see where the stadium was.
Yeah.
Because it's so different.
There's no bleachers there, no concession stands.
There are no, you know, this or one goalpost.
But I'll say the goalpost that is there.
The other one is that.
Well, there's part of it.
I wouldn't say part of it.
And the fieldhouse couldn't e seen before because the bleachers, you know, prevented that.
So it's kind of sticking out there about South.
But I'm thrilled there's a roof on it ecause that's progress recently.
So what happened here the night of the tornado?
The night of the tornado, the whole end of this building came off the roof, lew away with everything, with all the units that were up there, most of them fell into the jam.
And then the debris from the town came in as well.
This jam has a lot of tradition and wonderful memories, ut it's completely different.
We have changed the mascot on the wall.
It was Tom.
The other one was a prehistoric tiger.
Yeah.
So we updated the tiger.
We added the paws to the floor and the painting is different for the different sports that we play in here.
We even have an update on our stage.
I've been outside building and around the facilities, ut I've actually not been able to come in and work and sort of be able to roam around and see how things are going.
Until this week.
So it's been very much off limits ecause there was so much activity and so much equipment, you know, it was silly to even come in and try to do anything and to didn't have computers or we just got phones this week and our cell phones and our bell system back.
So I've been working lots of other places.
Everybody's offered me a spot and I've taken them up on it and just kind of floated around.
Does it still seem like yesterday.
Honestly, and I know people say this kind of thing all the time and it just sounds so cliche, ut that whole experience to me was like watching a movie with somebody else playing my part.
And in my mind, April 26 was yesterday, and I got all the kids out of the building and I thought I had them to safety.
And I never dreamed that a tornado would hit the school and everything was normal.
And since then, I watched a movie of some really incredibly crazy things happening to somebody else.
Good luck to all the folks up there in Ringgold as they rebuild their lives and their school.
Time now to check out the Metro picks.
Corky cult classic scoreboard.
We've had four outstanding games to watch.
Grayson beating Cal in the first game seven and nothing last year.
Pulling off the big upset Knocking off Brookwood 14 to 6 in game two.
Then in a while when McEachern scores two touchdowns late in that game to beat North Gwinnett 26 to 17.
And right now, Walton is leading Peachtree Ridge at by a touchdown.
Time to talk recruiting now we bring in our recruiting guru, Scott, Janet Scott.
It's been a great day all the way around, ut we had some big news right here on GPB, right during our tailgate show, ecause Ray Buchanan Jr announced where he was going.
Oh, sure.
We had big news in Arkansas.
Fans had huge news.
They got a good one.
And Ray Buchanan, a guy who has great cover skills as a defensive back, ut a guy who was also very willing in run support, especially for a guy who's not that big and also a dynamic kick and punt returner as well.
So Arkansas fans very happy tonight to get Ray Buchanan.
Does it surprise you at all that he chose Arkansas over all the other schools he could have gone to?
Ole Miss was the other one.
He did have a lot of good offers, ut Arkansas, of course, in the SEC, a very, very impressive program on the up and rise.
And I think it's a good choice for both Arkansas to get him, but also a great choice for Ray to go to Arkansas.
A lot of great talent all day long, ut in this last game that we've been watching first half, who are some of the guys our fans should watch in the second half?
Well, when you talk about Walton, everyone talks about the Blaylock twins.
I'll tell you, though, the three juniors have really impressed me.
Brandon Cuban, now the offensive guard, Tyron Jones, has completely stolen the show, absolutely electric with the ball in his hands in open space, ut also in tight spaces, making deals.
Miss and Parker McCloud, the quarterback, also another junior.
Very, very impressive player.
Joe Horn Junior.
How good.
Joe Horn's been great as has DeAndre Atwater has has had a quiet ut had a nice touchdown in that second quarter.
And Joe Horn, you said it as a junior had two huge catches, one impressive one along the sideline.
Scott Jarvis, thanks for coming on.
It's always good to get that good recruiting news and info from you.
Glad to provide it.
All right.
Now, time now to check in with Nikki Noto in a segment that we call Rent Check.
Take it away, Niki.
Before we start rent check, Scotty, I have to tell you that it is COO Blondeau and trust me on this one because his proud mama is sitting right next to me.
And I know you have to be proud.
That's recruiting news so far.
How's Brain have been doing this year?
Which is great.
Very proud of him working hard and just wanting to finish the season strong.
All right.
Well, this is Mom Shelly to my left, and we're about to play a game called Check and Rent Check.
They're not in college yet, so they're not paying the rent.
This is all about them checking in with their parents.
So we're about to see how well, you know, your son are you ready?
Absolutely.
All right.
First things first.
He's in high school.
Obviously, he goes to class, right?
Education comes first after second.
What's his favorite subject?
Weight training.
That's it.
I don't know that it combines the two, obviously.
Absolutely.
All right.
What is his favorite book?
Favorite book?
Hmm.
And it's not a textbook.
It's not a textbook.
It's partly Sports Illustrated illustrator.
It is.
You're almost it's actually Friday Night Lights, which is an exceptional TV show.
So we're going to have to follow up with him and see if it's really the TV show or the book.
Okay.
Okay.
And lastly is to make a mom proud.
Brain, it could be anyone for just one day.
Who would it be?
Wayne Gandy.
Mom, you are wrong.
It's actually Bill Gates.
Oh, Bill Gates.
Is that better?
Yeah, that's better.
That's a little better player.
You know your son and out.
We're about to give you a GPP.
Paula, thanks so much.
Thanks to sports.
And speaking of sport, your son can play some football.
He's exceptional.
Oh, thank you so much.
All right, guys, back you.
Thank you, Nick.
Bill Gates is a good guy to emulate, let me tell you.
Time now for the second half of the Walton Peachtree Ridge game.
And for that, we go up to the booth to my colleague GPB Sports.
Gil Tyree and John Nelson, fellas.
All right, Marky Mark, thank you.
And Jon Nelson, we take a look at the first half of this football game.
What jumps out at you?
What jumps out at you?
WALTON Running the football, all the different flavors that they have running it.
You had Tyran Jones making sure that he was going to be that fast back.
And we've seen him make a lot of cuts.
We called him scissors kind of jokingly in the first half ecause of all of the cuts he's made and has kept the opposition Peachtree guessing, believe it or not.
All right.
We take a look at some of the other things that have transpired here tonight.
Now, you talk about Peachtree Ridge once again, trying to get that high powered offense up and running.
Billy Best, a great start.
Nine out of ten in his first part.
That's it for the second half.
And, you know, we're going to get ready for the second half.
So we need to kind of make sure that everyone else knows what else is going on here at GPB.
So we're going to come back for the third quarter here from the Metro picks, Corky, Kyle, classic third quarter coming up what the Peachtree Ridge after this right here on.
GPB Oh it started the third quarter walking out in front 14 seven over Peachtree Ridge first half highlights the lead plan of Falcons halftime report.
Take a look at this.
There you.
Go.
Parker McCloud of the clan.
McCloud up the middle.
Easy.
Touchdown.
No one gets him after that first look.
Stock about up the middle DeAndre Atwater with the score there to tie things up at seven And then Tyran Jones.
Let's look at the cuts one cut to cut miss tackle.
No one touches him.
Big touchdown on there for Tyron Jones 14 seven Walt as we head to the third quarter and here's your first half stats.
What jumps out.
Passing yards 118 to 22 ut once again, Walton has the flip side in the rushing game.
104 39 pretty much everything even penalties 12 combined for 90 yards.
But look at the rush yards as you talked about particular in the person of Tyron Johnson 14 seven Walton over Peachtree Ridge.
We start the second half and we're low taking off deep to Tyron Jones, who takes it as just ten and 15 season opening, 25 up near close to the 30 and brought down at the Walton 28.
Once again, when you have a back as electric as Tyron Jones has shown himself to be, you want to put him in as much of an offensive advantage situation as you can.
So put him back there for kickoff return.
You saw another couple of moves back and forth to get the ball out just shy of the throw.
So Parker McCloud will bring out his Walton Raiders up 14, seven and no huddle single back in the backfield.
And Tyron Jones started the second half here in the final game of the Metro Quartet cult classic that's Jones over the throws gets up to about 1032.
To the great tackle off the edge here.
Jones stutter step to get the handoff gets set up left guard left tackle to get to the edge Nice shoestring tackle to make sure he doesn't get any further than he does.
There's your cut to the outside.
There's your tackle gain of only two ecause of that great defensive play.
Ray Buchanan on the stop.
And you see Jones's numbers right there, ten rushes, 88 yards closing in.
On 100, McCloud looking for receiver.
And finds.
One.
And it's complete over the 45 yard line.
To Zach Blaylock, who we knew would probably get some offensive action.
It turns out that he's going to unleash him.
Rocky Hidalgo is going to unleash Blaylock here in the third quarter.
Look at the progressions.
McCloud looking doesn't have anything short, goes to the intermediate, finds Blaylock right there stepping out of bounds at the 44.
Now his point of view play fake roll out to the right by herself some time short isn't there intermediate is nice grab by Blaylock and out of.
Bounds first down yardage for Walton at their own 44 they lead lives football game to give to Tyron Jones, who is hawk down and brought down just over the 40 yard he may have lost.
To John.
Tony Porter there with the.
Big Tony Porter.
Crab down here.
Once again, we know that Joe Burns.
Joe Frank Burns, as the folks in Thomasville.
Very proud of Cousin Tony.
A loss of three.
And then I'll break up a second and 13.
The ball at the Walton 41, the Raiders lead Peachtree Ridge 14 seven, John Nelson, Gil Tyree and the great crew of Gp-B joining us here tonight out of the shotgun is McCloud.
He looks in the right flat.
Has a receiver there, and it is complete.
Swing out to Miles Howard that time got maybe a yard yard and a half Peachtree Ridge is secondary had that wind diagnosed pretty quickly.
Miles Howard on the reception, a gain of about one and had a breakout third and 12.
Just in good looking on the defense there.
Let's see what the crowd's numbers were for the first half, passing five of 733 yards and the score and you.
See the spread.
And McCloud in the pocket looks over a little over the middle and almost is able to complete it to miles and miles.
Howard, I should say the intended receiver at the Peachtree, 40.
Big Alex Gray there to defend this time.
It's the first.
Time, believe it or not, as mentioned, Alex Grady shows you how long he stayed away from the big guy ack there in the second to bring up a. Punting situation.
For the Walton Raiders.
And then to punt for Walton is the card Poole he'll be at his own 30.
Another part of all the famous fathers that we were talking.
About that he Tyronn defensive back played in the National Football League outstanding performance and whistles and flags and we've seen a lot of that tonight John Nelson.
Should be penalty 13 overall in this game.
923 in the third quarter.
And it's given the.
Ball star offense five yard penalty still fourth down.
On the halftime show.
The winners here tonight already have been Grayson and of course last year the big win, the upset win and the defending five state champs roke with to follow that up with.
A last second win by.
McEachern.
And what a job Kyle Hockman is doing over there with the Indians.
Matt Steward, Chuck Oliver brought it to you here on GPP, another opportunity for the aforementioned naked pool to back them up, ut its own 25 the punt single coverage down.
Here and it's taken y.
Look like was it a matt Harris down.
I would say so until we figure out how on the jersey is 34 yard punt slight return but very good not cheap Billy.
Best getting last minute instructions.
First Half numbers right there.
12 of 16 for 188 yards, the one interception and the score.
And of course, the rich trailing this football game, as you see at the top of, your screen, 14 seven the wall for a two man nine.
Minute mark.
In the third quarter that's behind center out of the shotgun begin to tap water straight ahead and rolled up and brought down a gain of about two which would set up about a second and eight.
Again, you hand the ball off.
To De'Andre Atwater.
It's going to come at you with that big frame of his not afraid to take a hit.
Not afraid to give a hit either.
Of course, when you get the opportunity to run behind six, seven, Alex to Reggie right there, number 76 seven, £330 worth of Alex Jurek.
He only played one game last year, ut now that he's in his senior season, he's looking to make an impact.
A lot of schools opening again.
It's that mortar.
Pocket, brick pops out of bounds.
Football and Walton's going to get on it and it is recovered by Walton over there.
You saw Jimmy Hope was over there.
And we're going to await the signal y the referee's one football.
And it is Walton football.
Yet another turnover by Peachtree done.
We talk about DeAndre Atwater.
Grinding making his way through the pile watch this effort by Atwater finds the pile bounces once finds a hole somewhere in there strip right there by Darren Blaylock and then you've got Blaylock, Jim Hogue and two and three other guys for Walton chasing after the along with the rest of the lions here at your ground level.
Now, watch him pop out of the pile right there.
Right edge gets.
It on play love on it, right tackle a loose football, a lot of football and everybody on it.
And it's Walton with the recovery in the give to Tyron Jones and he almost lost the football ut he was able to regain it and it gets over midfield.
Watch him was lost in back to back plays here Jones But.
He had a little.
Wrestling mind to get it all wild.
It did.
Pop up into the air and he grabbed it back.
And he was able to advance the football.
Great concentration by Tyron Jones right there to hang on to the football after he got after he lost.
It in Peachtree Territory up a second and five Walton just over midfield to give the Jones an opening and they continue to chew up that clock gets over the 45 to about down to the Peachtree at 44.
By the time he brought up the Tyron Jones, he picks up another five yards, four and a half to five.
Alex And in the tackle for Peachtree Ridge.
And of course Rocky Hidalgo playing to grind him out now yep with the 14 seven lead and you see the big offensive line protecting McCloud.
Third and four for Walton at the feature it's 44 back yes those two Brooks he slips and maybe lost a couple guys once again you get that pressure from.
Peachtree Ridge Defense and they were able to hold off after the turnover.
So you consider that a victory for the Lions here defensively.
And that'll bring in pull again the punt for Walton.
And get a shot at the paint.
Brain trust over there for Walton and of course headed up by Rocky Hidalgo.
Whistles.
And flags.
So just watch number 42, trying to bark out signals that the delay game offense.
By the hour penalty still for them.
It'll move pulled back again but.
That also gives him a little more room to work when it comes to punting because sometimes when you're getting too close to the end line this way, you take a little bit of a risk out of it.
If Walker just let it run him.
So Paul will try it again at his own 35 high and over in punt and taken by.
Extend reach shaking and breaking and.
Up to about the 30 yard line.
John.
And another flag.
38 yard punt return by the ridge at Steven.
Right.
Flag at the 21.
Let's see what the college legal use legal use of the hands illegal block.
14 seven walking over Peachtree Ridge here in the third quarter 541 left in the third.
We'll be right back here on GPB.
Illegal blocking the back on the return ten yard penalty first down what.
Back here at the Georgia Dome, the play that preceded this, the stoppage in action, the play right here.
And it looked like a good friend, Mr. Atwater, John.
And somebody paid the price, lower the boom and looked like a blaylock.
A Blalock.
Paid the price so steamroll the play like got the boom DeAndre gets him out of trouble out to the 21 and.
That's good enough for first down for Peachtree Reds they trail in this football game 14 712 532 in the third quarter of final game here in the Metroplex 14 cult classic again it's Atwater.
With room over the 30 to the 3540 4550 inside deep one territory in drag down at the Walton 35 yard line and flags after the whistle on the play 44 yard run that.
Time for DeAndre Atwater, the saving tackle by D.J.
Smith, the sophomore.
Watch the cut right there missed tackle missed tackle again changes hands ball now to the outside shoulder and D.J.
Smith with the saving tackle here's ground level Watch it You'll move to your left and then cut.
Back to your right.
Great job by the Lions offensive line to clear an opening for Atwater and look at those big legs and churning and running.
Hey.
That was great.
There's your tackle, right?
There might have been a little high on the tackle.
We'll see what the college.
Football personnel found.
Another did fall foul.
15 yards still first half against Peachtree Ridge.
And you see Daddy not happy.
The great Steve Atwater watching his son DeAndre here on that 41 yard trip that was negated John by a penalty.
So take away 15 and more off of that and that backs peach Peachtree Ridge up and it negates a great run.
DeAndre getting a well-deserved blow on the sidelines the ball at the 48 But you got to give the edge you got to give a lot of credit to the Lions offensive line to Reggie Paradis, Smith and Stevens across the board.
No one weighing any less than £230.
First and ten for Peach Tree reads the penalty after the Great Run by the Andre Atwater 14 seven.
If you're just joining us here on GPB and what has been an outstanding day of high school football kicked off by the big win over Grayson over tell and you see the big offensive line for.
They brought back Darrell Thomas 62 now clocking in at £290.
So you're looking at Daniel Stevens number 60 at 260, Darrell Thomas number 62 at 294 out of 58.
He's the light one a 230.
We've talked about Reggie number 76 seven, £330 to protect Billy Barnes.
A whole lot of beats.
Second man through for Peachtree Ridge High on the carry that's Harry Obiero five foot six £155 senior to do everything.
And look at the override.
Right there look.
At the penetration right there by the wall and defense getting around all those big bodies that we just talked about and we talked about defenses these days.
You had to make the choice of going inside.
You go with speed.
Why right now, Walton Scott Speed that play they got around the size of Peachtree Read.
A gain of one for Obi Obiora and in the backfield that right now is Raheem Dixon next to best best play fake looks over the middle all was picked off and batted down.
And again one of the play lots of the blocks got the deflection.
Flag was shaken up on that flood.
And he's almost surprised that the ball came to him play fakes placement est with the throw into double coverage.
Here's your other look right there Great read by Blaylock there to cut in front of the ball got in front of the receiver who was looking to get.
The ball and the break up that apparent completion, one of Mookie Blaylock kids playing for Walton and Rocky Delta.
That brings up a third.
And nine for 16 in this football game.
The third quarter est with plenty of time looking for his receiver.
And again, it looks like a package on the intended receiver with Joe.
Horn Junior streaking down the left sideline.
And sophomore DJ Smith on the guard.
I think Walton is going to sit there and say it was an uncatchable, ut the bottom line will come from the man in the white hat.
Who has the final verdict.
And we'll await more deliberation.
I don't think so.
What would you like to do?
And let's listen in.
Pass interference, defense, 15 yard penalty, automatic first down.
Tackle on the 15, an automatic first and that'll continue this Peachtree Ridge Drive.
And if you look and again our cameraman with excellent positioning here you see the bump.
All right.
Just that's all it takes.
Just a little bump to knock him out of bounds.
An API call and an automatic first down for the lions of Peachtree Ridge.
And they trail in this football game.
14 seven.
The wolves best out of the snap rolls out looking for a receiver ut the ball is in the ground.
The intended receiver in the right flat.
Darian Horn.
Was Darian Horn number 19.
Called to completion on the field.
And again another flag and more consultations y the referees here tonight.
Chop block on the Peachtree Ridge offense that's moving back.
Mark Fleetwood asking the the crew, what's the call?
First and ten, the first.
And longer they're telling the shot clock which is illegal.
So all that being said, John, that's going to back up Peachtree, which we only got one one way offense.
15 yard penalty still first down.
And the confirmation of what we've seen up here in the booth.
Again, we talked about this wonderful, wonderful MetroPCS Corky Cal classic kicked off the day with the win Grayson that of course last year to the win over Brookwood the great game between McEachern and North Gwinnett And we follow it up with the KU to ground here tonight Walton in Peachtree Ridge the Raiders leading 14 seven late third best rolls out looks towards a receiver in the right flat that is horn and he's pushed out of bounds at the Walton 42.
Cody Richardson starting it.
Jim Hogue finishing it over on the Peachtree Ridge sideline, game seven to make it second down in 18.
Second and 18, as John said.
And of course, Peachtree Ridge right now with an opportunity to keep this drive alive.
Best and the right flat.
Toe horn.
Pushed out of bounds, close to a first down, first down marker.
Once again, you're seeing with what Coach Fleetwood wants to do with this offense, everything fast, everything on the hop, walk to the corners, the first opening really best sees off the designed roll out, which naturally is to his right is right handed.
Throw it, find the guys short, positive yardage.
It's almost like a run and a.
Rolling pocket as well.
Exactly third and a short one with an opportunity.
For Peachtree Ridge to extend this drive and get a first down est.
Place.
He has a receiver.
He's looking for and a flag on the play.
The intended receiver was Joe Horn Junior held up over there.
The defending on the play was Blaylock.
He had once again, you had Richardson short, you had Blaylock long you had help from Colby Billings back there as well.
And Brooks was coming over there, too.
And we have Blaylock down and it looks like cramps.
We've seen cramps here tonight.
We saw it early, the early game, Lassiter this afternoon.
Try to walk it off a little bit est with the pump fake trying to go over the top with it help short And there's Blaylock with the grab of the sweater waiting for the official word from downstairs to the man in the white hat coming over to the Peachtree Ridge sideline.
John, your thoughts about this drive right now?
You talked a little bit about about it earlier relative to what Coach Fleetwood has been able to do.
To drive in rhythm.
And that's what Coach pass.
Interference defense 15 yard building.
Automatic first down.
All right, there's.
Joe Horn Junior.
There's Joe Horn, Senior.
Proud Daddy.
Great wide receiver in his own right with the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons.
So he played both sides of the rivalry.
In the NFC West.
It's important his kid here tonight great side to 51 in the third quarter Peachtree Ridge first and ten at the Walton 18.
It's snap goes to bass the gig straight ahead of spinning the Andre Atwater gets over the 15 down to about the wall and 14 a gain of about four.
And you see what DeAndre Atwater can do lower the head lower the boom move it forward.
And he's like we said, he's just as happy giving out licks when he's holding the football as he is taking them.
As we've seen him take a couple of good looks two on play fakes with Billy best he's had the yardage.
Second and seven You see the numbers on DeAndre Atwater approaching the 100 mark That's plenty of time looking for receiver.
He's looking for Joe Horn Jr the ball passes incomplete.
Looking for Stephen Reich Joe Horn Junior oth back there and Stephen Reich coming over from the defensive side of the ball, listed as a safety in the miracle.
Like playing both ways ecause, you know.
There you go.
There you go.
Third and seven for Peachtree Ridge at the Walton's 15, they trail in this football game.
Best play fake.
It's going to keep it over the ten down close to the five.
Those nice ad lib and first down yardage roke a couple of tackles when he needed to got the big first down to keep the drive going.
You see great individual effort here y best fake the time to Atwater Atwater trying to stay in to block est escapes two tackles finally knocked down about a five and a half yard line.
Now, now we have the other Blaylock Zack down at the Cramps as well.
Nice ball control drive for Peachtree which.
You know, we talked about a drive in rhythm and you've seen the running game for Peachtree Ridge and you've also seen the controlled passing game.
The short stuff, whether it's reading progressions, start off with the short stuff and you've seen the progression to the intermediate routes.
You've seen them try to go long a couple of times, so there's a rhythm to it to get the running game going.
You work the passing game short, medium long, then you work ack to what you had early in the library.
You just keep working your way forward with what's going on.
And as Coach Fleetwood told us, you know, this week that he was going to give our best every opportunity to ring the throw the football.
And the old line has been able to move the pocket around him and make him successful here tonight.
He's done a nice job.
And you talk about Mark Fleetwood.
He learned from one of the best, his high school coach at Lakeside to Camp Wayman Kriel, who was top, I want to say, top 15 and career wins in the state of Georgia.
He learned how to practice and how to be successful, along with defensive coordinator Dave Redford there and a couple of other coaches who helped him in college.
You're talking about guys like Jim Carlin and Jack Slick up at South Carolina and someone in particular who recruited Fleetwood from Lakeside to Ca Guy out of Moultrie by the name of Ray Gough during his time in South Carolina.
GPB is the only station to broadcast the state high school championship games year after year, and starting on, we will bring you live high school football every week.

Support these great games and great kids on GPB and thank you.
Once again we talk about quality investments and being a part of a team here at Georgia Public Broadcasting.
It is a quick and easy way to do it.
As you see.
Zach Blaylock link limping off the field and of course cramps.
We presume once again a hydration issue.
You just have to make sure that that six one £194 frame is properly hydrated, make sure that all the muscles are back to work and below the waist efore you can get back out there.
And that's a key loss for that secondary as Peachtree Ridge gets closer to the end zone here, working out of the pistol and.
A committed, of course to Kentucky in the great Jokic Phillips handoff to DeAndre Atwater on the gear from best down to about the Bolton three.
Take it Sunday with the trip up there number 48 key stop at a big time there Justin Brooks also involved.
The clock continues to run as we approach the end of the third.
Quarter.
14 seven wolves now in front ut Peachtree Ridge driving.
Second and.
Goal they give to De'Andre water a missed tackle the power drop five drive to get into.
The end zone and he stopped about the one John.
And once again we continue to talk about DeAndre Atwater and what he does with that frame of his just continue to grind, work the legs which is what they teach you as a running back, make sure that you keep those legs churning.
And sure enough, Atwater does that and moves the.
Pile often than not.
Oh, now you've got a third and goal at the two.
The two head coaches playing a little chess, trying to figure out.
One, how to get into the end zone, the other trying to stop him to blotto one of the ones on the tackle on the run y Atwater to fix that water he gets in the end zone for a touchdown no flags and there is happy daddy Steve.
Take a look at the replay John take us through.
Spread the floor.
Make sure that everyone's not crowded up in the middle.
Atwater finds the hole left tackle, big hole hops right through it easy six feet for the touchdown.
And Willow will be on for the extra.
Point C Raheem Dixon trying to make the hole there seals off the block at the edge, making sure that Colby Billings, number 27 was not going to be able to make the grab in the 18 y were low scoring it and it is good.
And we have a tie score here 14 the touchdown y the aforementioned DeAndre Atwater to spin the dove and in the end zone and then the patty by Rouleau is good the reaction from coach Mark Fleetwood Fleetwood and John Nelson.
We got a good one.
And that's what Mark Fleetwood's looking.
And he's like, All right, we're back to square.
We've got a little more than 12 minutes to figure out who's going to win this.
Two yard touchdown run by De'Andre Atwater, who's been a workhorse here tonight.
Most of the century, marking a 100 yard gain for Atwater.
Dozen carries.
John, you take a look at what Mark Fleetwood and company have ahead of them.
And this is brutal.
Take a week off to prepare for Roswell and that's it.
And Ray Main is Stadium at Roswell, then.
Newnan on.
GPP, September the ninth.
On the television side, Newnan travels to Peachtree Ridge.
Then you get into Region Play Metal Creek, Mountain View, October seven.
Put a circle on that one at Collins Hill.
Norcross is circled there, dilute the circle there with what Corey Jarvis has been able to do, finishing the regular season.
With one of the lowest kickoff goals in the end zone, and not an opportunity.
For Tyler and Jones to bring it out.
So what we'll take over first and ten at their own 20.
You're right.
That's good.
This group.
You know, you talk about Region seven eing one of the toughest regions in the state right up there along with Region one.
It's definitely something where you have to be prepared and that Roswell in the Newnan game getting them into the region schedule.
As well That's Parker McCloud the hand off and Joe straight ahead big hole 4050 Nick Field Nobody's going to catch them 30 They try to close an angle 2010 five Touchdown Walton just that quick right at the close of the third quarter.
My goodness.
Now you talk about speed.
What does it say when Christian Goodwin and rave you can and can't catch you 80 yards on the oard for Tyron Jones Walton.
Takes the lead.
And just like that the great move in cuts outside there is a fun race.
After that, there's a flag on the play.
No flags, correct me.
No flags.
And again, the great run by Jones to get in the end zone.
Someone who's going to need some O2 y the time he gets back to the sideline.
Peachtree Ridge gets the tying score working their way down the field with the run in the pass.
Then Walton unleashes Tyron Jones for the second level 80 yards.
In the paint.
He's no good, no good.
But it.
Said, look at Tyron Jones transfer from last year and.
What a night he's had here tonight for the Raiders.
Let's take another look at at ground level this what Peachtree Ridge Defense is looking at.
And they've been looking at it all night long.
Great.
That cut right there sealed it, taking them up and putting them down.
Tyron Jones heads into the end zone for the lead.
Number one run in your living room and the celebration in the end.
To work on that celebration a little bit.
It is, after all, week one.
But the mist created by Dittmar John and that is an opening for 320 to 14 right now out in front for a quick, quick strike touchdown y the aforementioned Tyron Jones.
But once again, Peachtree Ridge is more than happy to work that way if they need to.
We still have technically 12 minutes and 12 seconds for Peachtree Ridge to come up with another six points.
Plenty of time nothing to worry about.
Everything's fine.
I'm sure that's the message on the Peachtree Ridge sideline, the Walton sideline.
Everyone here from Raider Valley certainly amped up and Rocky Hidalgo.
All right.
We've got a six point lead.
Let's keep moving forward.
And of course, DETMER will kick the field goals of the teams, ut it'll be Anthony Price, who has a stronger.
Leg and will kick to feature rates among those Joe Horn shoot the ball, taking on the up and getting over the 30 yard line about to the 31.
John Steven right your junior safety back on kick return to help things out once again that last series for Peachtree Ridge we saw right playing offense so he's going to stay out there now Billy best comes back to run the speed game as we head toward the last play in the third quarter.
4 seconds to be exact.
And best will have that amount of time on top of your screen to work with first and ten.
The handoff well.
Within minutes Obama with.
The handoff bounces it tries to get it outside.
And that'll end the third quarter with the start of the.
Fourth quarter.
What a night for Tyron Jones, the 82 yard quick strike touchdown.
That'll give one that 2214 lead.
More from the Georgia Dome after these important messages on GPB.
All right, Jon Lee Russell, upcoming sports schedule, seeing some great music tonight.
The house band that and you can't go wrong with that.
Take a look at it Jon.
We got great stuff.
One being, of course, the Fletcher Proctor and Bob Horton on the Web.
On the right hand column.
That's what they'll be doing.
So they start off with Saint Pius and Westminster at Fritz Orfield.
Next week, the GPB TV crew will be at Collins Hill and Roswell at Romanus.
You go down the line, we catch back up with Peachtree Ridge on September the night we catch up with Carl again September the ninth on the website.
A lot of familiar faces as you go down the line.
September on the Web heritage in Ringgold, a great celebration in Katyusha account.
And of course, Dave Hunter will join me next week for that Collinsville football game.
Peachtree Ridge with the football with the first and ten pass complete or should say a second and eight, the pass was complete by best.
The Joe Horn drew.
Once again trying to just get something in rhythm, to establish a rhythm for this offense.
Find your first outlet.
In that case, it was Joe Horn Junior for best quick out, quick yardage.
Third and five for Peachtree Ridge at their own 37 trailing in this football game 2214 to Wolves final game of the Metro pieces for the classic in the right flat that is Obiora And he gets over the 40 and pushed out of bounds the flag on the play close the first down yardage for Peachtree Ridge.
Stephen Wright was wide open.
He was in the slot, not marked man up on the line of scrimmage.
That was why Best went to it preliminary is holding on Peachtree Ridge, ut you got to see just how quick the Walton defense is.
And that's one of the things that Rocky Hidalgo prides himself on, is the quickness of his defense in getting to the ball, holding offense.
Ten yard penalty still there.
Now and all that goes backwards.
At him set up a punting situation, apparent punting situation for a third.
It's third down.
Okay, correction.
Thank you, John Nelson.
Here's Mark Fleetwood pacing back and forth.
To make it a third and a short one for Peachtree Ridge.
The second head coaching gig.
He spent some time up, ut absent the best.
Invades trouble looks over the middle of the intended receiver was right and he loses the football and it falls incomplete.
So now that brings up a passing situation.
John Nelson punting situation now on fourth down, not what Peachtree Ridge wanted to do with the Tyron Jones score coming on the board.
Connor Rouleau, who does double duty for Mark Fleetwood place kicker and punter, will kick a punt at about a total of 16.
Among those waiting to receive Tyron Jones, you've got to believe he's going to kick away from Jones High punt.
And it falls down at about the 41.
Close to the 28 yard punt.
No return.
We talk the Walton pedigree look at the invasion as Vanderbilt, Hamilton Holliday, Kyle Westman ig leg from Adam Shriner now with the fighting Phenix of Elon who had a 58 yard field goal.
The tall Aaron Kelly.
Chase Thomas is a mean man in the PAC 12 at Stanford and someone who went on to save some fannies up in Athens.
Chuck Carswell down at the bottom of the.
Walton takes over first and ten.
The handoff to Tyron Jones.
Jones continues to move those feet.
He gets positive yards, moves it close to the 45.
What about it?
The Walton 43 ringing up a second and eight.
Got to love this kid.
Tyron Jones.
What a show he's put on for us here in second and eight for the Walton Raiders to give to Jones.
Tries to make tackles and a flag on the play among.
Those in there.
Reporter for peach tree ridge, raheem dixon over there.
Preliminary indication holding on the offense to move him ackwards.
Discussion with Alex Gray there.
What would you like to do?
Push him.
Back?
Push him back.
Push it back.
Holding offense that plays the clock on third down.
But this has been it.
This has been a consistent theme all night and all day.
A lot of penalties, particularly holding.
Our guys are right on it.
You see it right there.
Right there.
There you go.
There's your hold.
Impeding progress and they'll take the loss instead of the penalty yardage.
Make it second and 14.
And McCloud looking for Jones and overthrows him and the ball almost got picked off.
You could see what they were doing there.
They were trying to set the screen.
Harrison Davis leading Jones.
Christian Good led a peach to Reds, defending on the play and almost picked off.
Ridge had numbers on that side.
There were four Peachtree Ridge defenders and only Davis and Tyron Jones on that side.
So the completion for McCloud fourth and 15.
And that'll bring in the card for.
Four for the Washington.
Raiders one of his own 24.
Poole averaging mid thirties in his punts for most of the.
Evening whistles.
And we're going to bring this ack down again another flag.
How much yellow do you see?
Plenty.
Thick enough for a couple of weeks.
Worth.
Left to.
Go.
Well, I would say make them all blankets.
Yeah.
So it all together.
Come up with coating for the goalposts.
Perhaps we'll do it all over again.
Illegal substitutions, defense target penalty still fourth down the mark.
Fleetwood not too happy.
But again, these are the bugaboos in week one right now.
Clean them up.
Yeah.
And you just know that's what you're doing here.
Once again, you think of this as non region.
You take your non region schedule to get you ready for region schedule in game one.
Usually you're thinking the defense will be there before offense and special teams comes up larger than normal in these games until offense and defense get into Folsom.
Until tries it again.
Right we'll take it it's a 25 spins gets over the 30 up to the 31.
Both these teams have had scrimmages.
You know, we've talked about Walton scrimmaging North Boyles, ut of course, Peachtree Ridge scrimmages, you know, Southwest, the Camp Football Fridays here at Georgia is here, kicks off Friday at Roswell for a great matchup between Collinsville.
Roswell watch every Friday night, the game of the week as we travel around the great state of Georgia to bring you the best high school football games right in your living room, all brought to by GPB Sports Football Fridays at eight here on GPB.
Mark Harmon yours truly.
Jon Nelson, Dave Hunter and a cast of Thousands will be with you next Friday.
Bar none.
History with the football to hand off to give to a leaping DeAndre Atwater He clears the 30 up to about the 32.
Cody Allen hanging on that time on the interior.
9 minutes under nine and counting and our final quarter final game, Peachtree Ridge trailing Walton.
And with the Walton victory, that'll mean Co County would have won three out of the four here in the Metroplex.
Quirky cult, classic guilt.
Sorry, John Nelson.
Earlier you heard the voices of Matt stored in Chuck Oliver.
We're you've been with us all day day to night football here pump fake by best looking for right on the left side pushed out of bounds by Blaylock No call pass incomplete.
Pushed out of bounds on the joust by Blaylock They're overthrown and that's what est has done so far 14 and 24 131 with the interception DeAndre Atwater doing the damage on the ground tonight for Peachtree Ridge.
So Mark Fleetwood getting that balance one setting up the other.
And you see the professor over there trying to figure out what to do next year on the third night.
And he trails by six and closing in the eight minute mark.
Best in the shotgun plenty of time under pressure in the flat to Joe Horn junior escapes the tackler.
Goes to the middle of the field and it's pushed back to about the 28.
Minute give him forward progress out to the 34 that still makes it fourth down and six for Peachtree Ridge and they tried to do that little flanker screen again which it worked earlier in the game to take the look here best looking looking flanker screen got it on the slant horn trying to create and one part of the pilot six seven £330 Alex Draghi.
Sometimes it takes a little longer to get around and that's when the defense caught up with.
Kind of a low will putt at his own 20 gets it off and among those awaiting it ut Tyran Jones and they're going to do a.
Reverse and it's going to be a fake reverse.
And you're looking on the right side at number five, that is Cody Richardson.
He's for the 30.
He's for the 2015 ten.
No flags touchdown John.
Another big play.
Great punt downfield ut but then it just took getting past that first wave of coverage to have the wall sit on this side.
But there.
Is a flag there is some yellow and they're calling it back.
11 yard line, fake the reverse.
And then we're going the other way with Mr. Richardson.
And there's your screen right there.
Great.
BLOCK to clear things out around midfield untouched obviously from the throw ut we'll see what the flag is back at the 16 of Walton to see if this 88 yard punt return stance waving it off.
Touchdown, Walton.
There is this open touchdown again.
John, we we've talked about it.
We saw the reverse.
It looked good.
And Richardson.
Clear sailing.
You see Coach Fleetwood.
Arguing his point.
But John, this was a tremendous run.
And yet another big play we saw Tyron Jones get a big play and we see Richardson one.
More look, one more time.
Guys are doing a great jo and you'll see it on field.
Love working it backwards at the 12 fake the reverse nearside There's going to be a block to spring him at the 50 right.
There.
Clears it out to make sure that the last 50 yards has little traffic 88 yards on.
The punt return with boy Thomas play by.
Walton here Mr. Richardson answer some water We're going to take a break and fake play gives all the 2640 lead over Peachtree Rig seven and counting here at the Georgia Dome.
We'll be right back.
Here on GPB right.
Oh, oh, oh, oh 19.
John back here at the Georgia Dome Ball out in front, plus in this thing open now by 12.
But two big plays, one by Tyron Jones and here by Cody Richardson.
Number one.
And number two right there.
There's your speed.
The blocks come up here in midfield right there, clears it out at the 50 and everything is clear sailing from that point forward.
Yeah, you could tell that he was losing the tire at that point.
And that's why.
Yes, with some water.
And great.
Play.
You at 88 yard touchdown run.
So the aforementioned Mr. Rich.
Cody Richardson definitely needing some work on that axle and Justin Brooks was the one who cleared everything out at the 50 Justin Brooks on Clay for the Peachtree Ridge.
And they're going to go for two to try to make it a 14 point game.
Two touchdown lead.
McCloud looking for Calvin Jones in the flat he drops the.
Football but a flag that seems to be a consistent theme here tonight.
John.
The legal shift is the preliminary and the white hat says as he opens the envelope.
Looks like a hold Michael Lord.
Of the climb the penalty for the 12 point game so Rocky Hidalgo gets good and.
Bad after that.
Look at Michael Ward.
All right.
Let's see here.
Is that the take what they did take him down.
Michael Ward at the ground, first load, complete pass, they called it they call it the referee's called illegal shift.
So that's the call on the field.
That's how it goes.
And we're stuck at 2614 as well.
Doesn't get the two point conversion.
Look, you're dealing with 7 minutes, 20 seconds, plenty of time for Peachtree Ridge and their offense.
But it's also plenty of time that that man, Rocky Hidalgo, has to worry about trying to defend that offense that Mark Fleetwood is putting out.
On the field.
You know, we talked about this earlier, John, about the fact that this could e a big day for Cobb County.
You know, Grayson started things off with the win over intel.
But after that, we've seen wins y Lasseter, McEachern and Walton in the driver's seat right now with seven and 20 remaining in this football.
And think about what Lasseter was able to do Lasseter knocks off the defending five eight champion, Brookwood stops the 12 game win streak.
And in game three, Mickey Sherman, Kyle Hockman, Trent Thompson drives him down the field for a gut check, last second touchdown for the lead.
And then another touchdown late to seal off the win.
Kick by Anthony Price goes in the end zone.
So Cobb County's getting their work done here in the Dome.
And Peachtree Ridge will take over first and ten of their own 20.
You see Coach Fleetwood talking to his quarterback Billy Best down here in a position now where they have to throw the football.
And last year, remember, Billy Best was only roughly a 40% passer.
Fleetwood needs him to be in the 60 to 70% range, and he needs him to be effective, especially down 12 with seven and 20 to go.
All right.
Best in the shotgun mid single back with Ad Moore and the wide flat the complete two wait just a 25 push back and over there defending.
Justin Brooks for.
The Wild Raiders is Justin Brooks.
And the big block on the punt return that just happened the big tackle there and give you a six yard gain on first down to make it second for preventing the big game it's three rich.
Quick huddle will come up to the line of scrimmage with a second and fourth 26 to 14.
They trailed toward the first out of the shotgun over the left flat.
The ball is complete and over there this will be all in.
Remember right now, Fleetwood coming into this game, coach Fleetwood wanted best to go for that first opening, regardless of where it was.
So down 12, trying to run a hurry up.
He's finding that first opening.
But right now there's not a whole lot of positive yardage associated with that first look.
Third and five from Peachtree Ridge, you get a shot at coach Mark Fleetwood est out of the shotgun.
A passing situation looks over in the right flat, has a horn and horn is fumbled, ut he fumbles it out of bounds and puts Peachtree regains possession close to first down yardage.
Gain of about 1111 and a half best looking horn finds the opening right there in that zone, steps steps out of bounds for the 11 yard gain.
Here's Billy.
Best point of view.
Looking to the right the whole time.
Right there, Joe Horn trying to create something, realized a certain a whole lot their heads out of bounds with.
It first and ten for Peachtree they convert on the first down and they're able to move the football now ut drilling in this football game 558 remaining best drop back frozen the flat and the pass is incomplete.
The intended receiver DeAndre Atwater.
Trying for the screen that time with that water and he had the blocking in of him ut the ball from best est was rolling backwards as he's trying to release the football.
So he's losing yardage trying to throw to the spot hits Atwater in the feet.
At bring up a second and ten Walton in command of this football game under 6 minutes to play and see the spread run by Peachtree Ridge the lions here tonight that's plenty of time looking the left side has a receiver in horn.
It's complete and all.
And still it was defended.
But there's a flag on the play.
In and out of Joe Horn's hands at the 31 horn, working his way back to the huddle pass interference on Walton will move it downfield so they get some 15 on automatic first.
And AJ Collins Horn and AJ Collins attling.
Your joust.
And then the pie gets.
Called.
For the ball gets a pass.
Interference 15 yard penalty automatic first down.
Automatic first and that'll put the ball inside of the 50 yard line into Walton Territory the wall 48 542 and counting Walton out in front 26 to 14 best the intended receiver over there.
Derek Drum Go in and out of the hands.
From going the left flat.
And once again you're seeing that first look.
You saw them go deep to get the first down off the pass interference call.
But once again, first and second down, you're seeing first look outlet first look out where they could be short could be a screen.
It's whatever Billy best sees first is where that ball's going to have.
To bring up a second and ten for Peachtree Ridge est play fake over on the left side to Horn who quickly gets out of bounds out of stop the clock.
Short gain of three having to come back to the football to keep it away from the defensive back.
We're ending up with third down about seven decision time for a certain amount.
Mark Fleetwood looking at two downs for seven yards.
And trailing in this football game y 12 and trying to get points on the clock is not your love best.
All goes back to the middle and it's almost sacked ut gets free, gets free again.
But Blaylock is over there to to clean him up.
Great rolling pressure that time by Brooks to Walton getting that first round to flush best out of the pocket, then the second round to keep the game minimal at best.
There you go.
Best looking loses two tackles to get of the first rush.
Now he's wide, tries to cut it back inside and then the Blaylock to catch up with him to make it fourth down and about six.
So now Coach Fleetwood has to decide what to do now in this offensive set down 12 as we head under 5 minutes.
What and John talked about the play locks of course Zach and Darren sons of the former NBA star monkey there on the tackle.
And we have a timeout, John, and with an opportunity now for Mark Fleetwood.
Let's take the inside of the huddle and what he's talking about right now.
Key play here, fourth and six.
Do you ever needed 20 feet?
This is the time to get it for Peachtree Ridge under 5 minutes to go on the fourth down for.
That's it's up in the pocket is going to run to the forward he loses the football ut I believe it was blown dead ut he is close to a first down and he may have had it.
And this is going forward.
Progress is going to be a measure.
Here very key.
Is it left foot?
Right foot?
Is it where the knee went down first ball spotted, maybe the nose of, the football or half of the football from up here.
You.
And this is the first time that the chain gang is going to work out from the sidelines, from get back line and come out onto the field.
They get some work to them.
But it's only a short it's only a short drive for them.
This time.
Forward.
Progress by best would indicate he is very close to a three.
I got to say, the way it looks from up here, my limited eyesight, I got to say have two balls cross that first down line.
John, what a day it's been here on GPP.
Yeah, he started this thing at 11, 1130 with Harmon.
We crossed the 12 hour mark 12 minutes ago.
So in the lucky numbers.
We've been online.
On the World Wide Web mystic, mystic.
Wow.
That's about two inches short on that fourth down.
And that is big because you look at the time outs right now.
Peachtree has three in their pocket and Walton has two.
Billy Bosch trying to create.
Right.
And some that couldn't do it.
Peachtree Ridge on Defense may have to use those timeouts now in the process of stopping the.
Clock.
The clock in trying to stop Walton from getting any more yards and any more points on the board.
But you look at Parker McCloud and we know what he's probably going to do.
He's to turn it around and give it to Tyron.
Or even one handed.
Yeah or 40 for the up back of course is as Brooks and Flex are on the play.
Convert it is procedure in the offense.
But your impressions here what we've seen here today.
When you talk about Cobb County football we talked about it efore all star offense.
Five yard penalty.
Still first now counties making their mark here today.
You know, with Cobb County's difficulty in getting to Game 15 and winning a Game 15, there have been games played in Cobb County that have been games 15, but you now see Walton making an impact in the dome.
MACEACHERN Making an impact in the.
Last that are very impressive.
They're upsetting Brookwood so at least in week one, you're seeing week one itis not necessarily affect the Co County schools.
They give to Tyron Jones into over the 40 up to the 45 the battle to continue that clock to continue to move it.
Like you said, John, the prescription is to give it to one and let him burn up some yardage, urn up some clock.
Great spin.
Move.
There you go.
Cut, cut, cut.
Went into a couple of guys.
Here's a ground level Peachtree Ridge Defense.
This is what you're looking at trying to tackle Tyrod Jones in your living room Good luck with that And they finally meet up with him two guys to take him down.
Second and 15 at their own 45 Mark McCloud.
And take as much time as he could.
Under for this football game the up back is Brooks behind him there's Jones to give to Jones he clears the 45 and gets close to midfield.
But the clock continues to be an ally of the Walton Raiders.
And they not only they chew up real estate, but they're showing up clock.
On Dixon in for the tackle there.
Usually if you're just in for a full set of four downs, it can knock off about 2 minutes and 20 seconds before you have to punt.
So they could take it down to probably close to the two minute mark, two and a half minute mark.
If they take all the time off the clock and just run the football Peachtree, which does not use any time on.
Third and a short one the up back is Brooks the gifted Jones around the left side cross midfield into Peachtree Ridge Territory and that'll be another first down John And they continue to move the chains give.
It to the speed back, work it to the corner.
They've been doing that a lot.
You see the blocking up front y Kelly Brooks seals it to the inside.
Tyron Jones kicks it to the outside wall to see the brain working faster and faster.
He's got to figure out when to use these three timeouts and probably going to start using them now.
Walton in Peachtree Ridge Territory, leading in this football game by 12 under three to go the give is to hold hold takes it for about two John and this is what we saw in the scrimmage against Norcross the ability to run guys.
And there's so many opportunities in terms of being able to give the pill to and four for Hidalgo.
It's Kelly it's Kelly Brooks playing oth ways it's Tyron Jones at the tail we're talking about Hogue as well unch of different speeds that Rocky Hidalgo can work this offense and you're seeing all three of them.
Work tonight.
Second and seven the up back is Brooks to give to Hogue he's over the 45 and down to the Peach Tree Ridge have 43 and coach Fleetwood is going to have to burn a timeout now to GPB Sports.
There's now an app and Joe Horn is looking for one with up 2 minutes scores.
Joe, you can find out how your son is doing and a whole lot more here at GPB.
Fall season schedules, sports news rankings and so much more.
Our new app is the perfect way to keep up with all your favorite Georgia high school football teams for the entire season.
Joe Horn And you download the sports football app for your iPhone or iPad.
Today, I had my iPad up in the press box.
John Nelson You did, and they were kidding me.
And my biggest question is, does Mark Harmon a cell phone hidden under the padding at the crossbar?
I think so.
And I think he'll go out there and get it and you'll see it live right here on GPB.
And a minute, 57 to go efore we put a wrap on what has been an outstanding day of great Georgia high school football.
Again, I want to say thank you to Dave Hunter and the great people here at Metro Parks and Corky Co Classic.
For.
Being wonderful hosts.
What a wonderful day.
It's been started here close to high noon and with the win Grayson over tell and then it was after that we saw Lasseter with the upset win over the defending champion for a good team and Mark proves and what a game Matt Stuart and Chuck Oliver had to call McEachern with the win over north Gwinnett and one of one of the coaching I mean coaching guys in this business so you really love Cartman and of course right now Walton out in front Rocky and Company leading Peachtree Ridge.
And you saw the movement on the Lions line of scrimmage, their front four which would indicate offsides and Jon Nelson I've enjoyed being with you Mickey Mouse.
No encroachment defense five yard penalty first down.
So we're starting in the sunlight ending in the moonlight.
Go another 11 minutes and we're talking Wilson Pickett.
And I like that.
I like that.
You know, and that penalty on first down should pretty much put a bow on this watch with under 2 minutes to go, ecause Walton can take all the clock and just need to adjust the stick with the chain gang.
And then put this one in the old deep freeze nice win for Rocky Hidalgo off the stage.
With what's with Walton what they've had to go through coming here to the dome, finally getting a win under the big top, huge for them huge for them around the program.
Jim Hogan, the right tackle working his way down just outside the 30.
Yes.
Got whistles and time out defense Peachtree Ridge takes burns.
Another timeout.
Another timeout.

And we say thank you.
You talk about the support their support right there.
You know, you talk about coming down here to the Georgia Dome.
They're sticking to the end.
You know, it's ten to midnight.
We started 12 hours 1 minutes ago with our coverage.
Right.
So we want to thank everyone who's been hanging out here watching games all day, has been watching on GPB, watching on GPB, talk, listening to us on 790, The Zone in Atlanta.
And I want to say special thanks to our friends over there at WQXR seven really busily provided the feed for us.
The radio being here today, hold the spin, lose his helmet taken off he gets over the 30 about down now to the Peachtree Ridge 29.
This thing may be all academic, John.
It's going to matter to.
Make sure that everything attached to the helmet is still attached.
What do we draw from these games here today?
I know it's August, ut we've got a long way to December.
True.
When we return right here.
You know, you take from it what you've pretty much figured, you know, what parts of your game are working, coming out of the box.
You know what you have to work on.
You know that pretty much everyone around the states but looking at film of you and making sure.
That they know what's going on and some hope busts it out.
But once again, he's down to the five dances in the end zone.
And this is going to be touchdown.
But we have do we have a flag back at the 40?
Yes, we do.
So we'll see if the sticks.
Really will carry in the case.
It's like it's off the wall.
And when you see that this spot.
Looks like a whole.
We'll see discussion, termination and deliberation among the folks at the Sabers.
But Doug had the presence of mind to get Tyron Jones out of this for killing off mean obviously getting the game penalty.
Still third down.
The legal shift will mitigate the touchdown by Hogue so we bring it.
Back and at the same time you take Tyron Jones out of the game as Jim Hood busts it out there and now he's got to catch his breath a little bit.
They've got a week off before they head to Milton for their second game of the season right.
So they've got some time to get healthy.
The Peachtree Ridge gets a week off before heading to Romania Stadium to take on Roswell.
Tyron Jones is back in second.
Back in the air.
They give the ball to Jones to the 3025 pushing and driving down inside the 20 down to about the peach tree.
17 gets the first down, moves the chains.
And the clock is just going to continue to run out on Peachtree here tonight for Mark Fleetwood and Company.
What do they do, John?
Once again, you know, you look at the film from this particular instance, you see what Billy Best was able to do in this offense.
Looking at first look, you see how he's got his progressions going, and then you just make sure that you take this experience, sit there and go, okay, this was a non region game.
We'll take what we can.
We learn from this.
We have plenty of time to get ready for a very tough game against.
Roswell at Roswell Road.
So you've seen aspects of your game that work.
You just work toward what you think you need to work on.
When you get to Romania Stadium on the 2nd of September.
You see Rocky Hidalgo, who is shedded at the headsets.
So that means this one's in the old deep freeze and you see some of the stars here tonight, of course, Mr. Cody Richardson and Walton right now in that victory formation.
And it will be a meal down that'll.
Do.
And that'll do it too.
It Don Nelson, it was a pleasure being with you and being with you upstairs.
I don't know if we'll get to see each other downstairs efore it's time to go, but it's been fun.
Always is, especially to kick off the season with four games at the Dome.
That game is over.
Now that Walton has defeated Peachtree Ridge by the count of 26 to 14.
And a big win for Rocky Hidalgo.
And I know they're going crazy right now in Raider Valley.
You talk about Tyron Jones.
This was his coming out party, coming over from year.
Just think what he might be able to do in that offense if he was still at Lasseter, ut now he's at Walton and you see the end result.
They're right, the running game with Peachtree Ridge and the offense working at points for them.
But Walton is just fast to the point of attack, both on offense and on defense.
Getting the best of Peachtree Ridge y 12 by the end of the day.
And the two big plays that busted this thing open etween Richardson and Jones and that pretty much did it here tonight.
Let's go downstairs to our Nikki Nadeau, who standing by with one Rocky Hidalgo.
Nikki, it is all yours.
That's right, guys.
Right now I'm with Coach.
It all go and let me just say that second half that belonged to your special teams.
Tyron Cody Wow.
You know, we've got a lot of talented kids, guys who can make things happen with the football.
We did some things on special teams tonight, but we've got a ton to work from on special teams.
So this team's not a finished product, ut we've got a lot of building, a lot of a lot of possibilities with this year.
Now, Coach, is there going to be a possibility that you are going to convert those two points and you're going to make the Pats?
Oh, I hope so.
At some point in the future.
That was that was kind of got a little ugly there.
And but you know that's what first games is what they look like.
Absolutely.
What you guys look to.
Great.
Congratulations and good luck for the rest of the season.
We look forward to following you the rest of the season.
Thank you.
Back to you, Mark.
It's been a long day.
It's been a long day, but it's been a great day of high school football here at the Georgia Dome and the PC and Metro Picks Corky Cal Classic.
We will be back to wrap everything up, some highlights, some interviews coming your way after this timeout and welcome back to the Georgia Dome.
We are live here.
The 20th edition of the Corky Cal Classic is now on the books.
Four great games today.
And if you were expecting to watch that mystery theater with Perrow at 12:00 here on JGB, you're going to have to wait just a few more minutes.
They'll pick it up in progress after our post-game.
But let's check out the action from the day, the first game of the day at 1145, the Grayson Rams taking on the Longhorns of Cal.
And this game was a dandy.
It was a great way to start out the game.
And we're going to check out the highlights right now as we go to the action.
Was a big defensive struggle the entire game cal with the interception here Brendan Langley hauling it down late fourth quarter, still no score.
Cal mishandled the punt and that would lead to the only touchdown of the day as big Robert Cam rushes across the goal line to make it seven to nothing.
And that was your final score as Grayson beats Cal seven zip.
Let's go over to Nicky Nadeau.
We're going to talk to her a little bit and she's going to get some other information for us out there with some of the other guests that's going on.
I'm going to also be joined by my colleagues, Jon Nelson and Gil Tyree.
They're going to come down for some final thoughts and some final.
It's going to be just an excellent situation all the way around.
Now, in Game two today, it was the upset, special of the day so far, the upset of the year last taking on the Brookwood Broncos Nick Thompson bangs across the goal line for Brooklyn makes it six to nothing ut fourth quarter Eddie Prince to wall Dickie Jordan takes it the distance 7 to 6 and then Isaiah Willis crashes over for the touchdown That's your finalist last year Beats Brooklyn 14 to 6 last year eating the team that won the five AA state championship last year and was ranked number one in many polls, already 14 to 6 last year.
Overbrook what we go now to game three of the day and it was a doozy North Gwinnett taking on the Indians of McEachern.
This one going right down to the final play of the game pick up the action Scott Bush to Chad Scott seven Nothing North went out on top, ut McEachern rallies back Trent Thompson at a tower it 10 to 7 as McEachern takes the lead.
Back and forth we go back and forth.
Scott first to Chad Scott, Ted Scott with his second touchdown the game this makes it 1413 north Gwinnett 10 seconds to go McEachern trailing but not for long Chris Morris scores 20 to 17.
McEachern.
And then the last play of the game c j Cody makes the interception.
He takes it back all the way to the rack, the pick sticks and McEachern beats.
North when they have 26 to 17 their final score.
Now, the game that you just saw here, another beauty.
Lots of good action in this one.
It was Walton taking on Peachtree Ridge.
Lots of touchdowns in this one.
Lots of big touchdowns in this one.
Watch this.
Here we go.
The pitch to number 27, pizza red it 1414.
Big play of the game.
Watch number one, Tyran Jones, he goes 70 yards with this touchdown.
This makes it 20 to 14 and Walton had this game wrapped up ut the play of the game maybe this punt return Cody Richardson 89 yards number two streaking down the sideline, picks up a block, makes a move, shakes a tackler, and he is long gone as Walton wins this game 26 to 14 over Peachtree Ridge.
We're going to be back.
Nikki's going to have some interviews for us and we'll have John and Jill as well.
All that and more.
We come back after this timeout.
We're live at the Georgia Dome, the metro BCS.
Corky Cal Classic is now on the books, the 20th Corky Cal Classic, I might add.
It was Walton a winner today, 26 to 14 over Peachtree Ridge.
And let's go to Nikki Noto, who has a couple of the stars for the Raiders.
Now.
Mark, right now I have two of the special teams stars, and to my left I have Tyron, and to my right I have Cody and Tyron.
You ran it for 80 yards.
But your teammate over here, he ran for, what, 88 years, that record?
Yes, ma'am.
Is that is that why you're the senior?
You're trying to teach the youngsters this junior over here a lesson or two?
Yeah, I'm trying to teach them how to take it to the house.
Well, you took it all the way.
Now, my next question is now in practice this week, are you going to try to bump that up, make it 89, 90?
Well, we always have a little competition in practice, at least until the games.
It just works out the best.
Whatever you guys are doing, it's working now.
You're a senior and you told me just a second ago you haven't committed yet.
When do you think we're going to expect that.
Late fall toward the end of the season.
I'm going make my commitment.
All right.
Good deal.
Well, thank you guys so much for joining us.
We're about to send it over to Mark you.
It's been a great day, Mark.
Nikki, it's been a terrific day.
And with me now and my colleagues from GPB, Gil Tyree and Jon Nelson, you call a couple of the games, you watch the other two.
Just your thoughts on these four big games here at the Metro Picks, Corky, Gil class.
Well, I'll let John go first.
John.
Well, you once again, we talked about the Cubs superiority this time around, the difficulty that Cobb County teams have had coming here to the Georgia Dome, at least for one day out of the year, it's in week one, one day out of the year, Mark, you end up with a 3 to 1 margin for the Cobb County schools.
You talk about after the loss early by Cal with what Lassiter was able to do to the top ranked team in five eight, the defending champs in Brookwood who was ranked nationally in some circles.
Then you that up with a great game with a great comeback too with McEachern and everything and then this game here where Walton shows what offense they have now with Tyran Jones running back a great Cobb County showcase.
Mark and I agree with John.
I thought Tyran Jones was the star starts here tonight.
Richardson coming in with the two big plays.
But more importantly, Mark, this is a situation Cobb County show the superiority here, at least four football games.
All right.
Nick has got some more special guests standing alongside.
So let's go back over to Nikki Noto.
I do, Mark, right now.
I have the Blaylock brothers with me now.
I had to ask them just to make sure they didn't switch jerseys on me.
You guys are still all right, right?
Yes, we are.
All right.
So we got that out the way.
Now you two cause havoc in the backfield.
I mean, you guys are running all over the place.
So your little family competition going on?
Yes, there is a lot of competition.
We always see whoever makes the most tackles each game.
And what's the compensation for that?
What do you guys give each other for or what you don't give each other.
How about that?
Yeah.
Bragging rights for the weekend.
Just for the.
Not for the whole week.
For the week till the next game.
And what are the repercussions?
Not just.
Just bragging rights.
Just bragging rights.
That's all you need in a family, am I right?
Yeah, that's all you need.
Well, if this game is any indicator of what you guys are going to do for the rest of the season, I'll tell you what, you fans are in for a very big tree with the Walton Raiders.
Thank you guys for joining us.
Good luck.
Thank you.
Back to you, Mark.
All right.
We're just been joined by Jackie Brittain, who's been taking care of our We chats all day long.
Tell us a little bit about what some of the most interesting comments, far away comments.
Who did you hear from?
Well, it was really interesting ecause we got to hear from a lot of people, not only outside of Georgia, ut outside of the United States.
We had people logging on from Brazil, the Philippines, all over Australia as well.
So that was the coolest part.
We had a lot of family members chatting out there to their brothers and sisters, cheerleading.
So we had it was really cool ecause we got to reach a lot of outside of Georgia as well.
So that was the coolest part.
All right.
It's been a great marathon of high school football here.
Just your final thoughts.
Let's go around, Nikki.
What do you think?
What do you take away from the quirky cult classic?
Well, right.
I just want to take away.
Everyone is looking fantastic.
This has been a 16 hour day.
And I'll tell you what, I have not been disappointed by one game.
I had the I was fortunate enough to be on the sideline for every game.
I tell you what, very, very exciting.
It's going to be a good season for high school football.
All right.
Now back to Jackie.
Anthony, possibly all the second generation players out on the field tonight.
That was really a lot more than I expected.
So that was cool.
You guys got the call two of the games.
I was a little bit envious.
You had a front row seat for all the good stuff.
We enjoyed the last of the game, ut you know, the ability for last year to knock off the defending five state champions down with something that was really really special.
And you talk about what Chipper was able to do last year, five and five losing the first round of the playoffs, coming back and then getting this victory against Brookwood, a very highly touted squad.
And, you know, kind of piggybacking off of what Jackie was talking about, I had relatives in Norway, in Southern California checking in.
So it was a nice way to put a bow on things for me.
And one more thing, it proved that Rocky Hidalgo was Poor Mouth.
And when we saw him, when that scrimmage gets.
Low.
He was loaded.
Best high school football by none.
All right.
Team by Renault.
There you.
Go.
You guys got it now.
