Facebook live I'm Hannah Goodin alongside Jon Nelson.
Week five, show five.
Jon coming in hot today off of his soccer show.
- Yep.
- What's going on Jon?
- Apparently we got some high school football to talk about.
A lot of great match-ups that are coming up this weekend.
Some folks are getting into region play.
Some folks are still playing out of region stuff, Buford and Chaminade-Madonna at Tom Riden this weekend.
That's gonna be another one where you've got one of the top teams in Georgia going up against one of the top teams from the state of Florida two and one, number one in class, AAA Buford to three and zero.
So that's just one of the marquee games that we have but there's a lot of stuff to talk about in the next 30 minutes.
- If you missed the podcast, we gave Jon another shout out.
Well, I want to talk about your EMMY Silver Circle really quick.
- Okay but I thought we were gonna talk about the crash visitor before we-- - I was getting to that.
- She's building.
Okay.
- He had his EMMY Silver Circle nomination celebration last Friday, we missed you at the game but I wanted to give you one more shout out on that.
So congratulations, Jon.
Now we can talk about your complete-- - Focus!
Let's get into the game.
The games this week, there's a lot to talk about on Friday.
- Meltdown on the podcast.
- You guys have got to go listen to it.
We had a surprise guest at the end, which surprised me.
And, have you recovered from the podcast yet?
- No.
No, I have not.
- So give everyone that, the background on what happened.
- Here's the 411 as the kids say.
Kids say that, right?
Here's the 411.
- The 411, sure, no.
- 411.
- The kids do not say that.
- So here's the deal.
I am the resident, Florida state alumnus on the show and I got to watch the last play of the Florida State, Jacksonville State game from a hotel room and it was at that point that my Twitter blew up.
Understandably so considering that the quarterback for Jacksonville State, a two sport star from Jonesboro High School for those of you that remember, decided to throw, they had 59 yards and six seconds to try to get a game winning score and they accomplished that.
So beating Florida State University in Tallahassee at Doak Campbell stadium, great win for Jack State.
So Joel Ingram, graduate of Jacksonville State University, football player from Jacksonville State University, coach of Jacksonville State University at one point once he graduated, decided to crash the podcast and give me some grief, understandably so.
No I was with him because I don't know how you don't play prevent defense in that point but they played single high safety and got burned on it and that's how they ended up losing.
So listen to the end-- - And we are so sorry for your loss.
- I can sense that.
- (laughing) We are so sorry The genuine nature - for your loss.
of that apology from Hannah for Florida State losing.
So yeah.
So, yay me.
It was a great end to the Football Fridays in Georgia podcast.
Thank you, Joel Ingram from Washington County High School from crashing the show.
It was great to have Dean Fabrizio from Lee County on as well.
So that's this week's Football Fridays in Georgia podcast that you can catch on your favorite, podcatcher@gpb.org.

- All right, one more piece of news to pick on Jon, before we get the show started.
- Great, great.
You are now allowed to say fancy TV graphic, by the way.
- Okay, okay.
- That's a wash. You can say that now.
I have a new word today.
I've been told to not tell you and if you say it, you have to run in place while I tease the rest of the show at the end of the A block.
- Okay.
And so what that means is that our friends in the audio booth TS, I apologize ahead of time for having to run up and down so it just means we'll just kill my mic if this happens.
- All right guys, let's get the show started.
We've got everybody in here it looks like.
Michael Baxter says good afternoon to everyone at GPB Sports.
Evan Reese, go Hornets!
Chick-fil-A and Zaxby's, Michael Baxter's having for lunch.
Which brings us to what is everybody having, for lunch.
- Make us hungry people.
What is for lunch?
What are you having, what are you doing as you're watching us with a Lanier County L right there in what's for lunch.
What are you having?
And make us hungry please.
Let us know what you're having.
and if there are recipes, if it's homemade stuff, share with everybody else in the timeline there on the Facebook page here at GPB Sports Facebook live.
Let us know what's going on.
Make us hungry because once this show's over, then that's when we're having lunch.
- You already said the word.
(laughing) That was too easy.
- What?
- It was Lanier County.
- Okay.
- Yes, I am so good.
- All right.
- I knew you were going to say the Lanier County L and if you didn't, I was going to say, "Jon what helmet is this again"?
Yes, you said it.
- All right, so that's your notice at the end of the day, I'm gonna run in place and get winded while Hannah's going to read the slowest promo ever in the history of the show.
- All right, can't wait for that.
That'll be coming up in just a few minutes but first, Jon missed it on Friday.
Let's recap our very first football Friday in Georgia game of the week!
It was the Purple Hurricanes beat the Seminoles, 17 to 14 in a true defensive battle Jon, to go three and zero on the year.
- Jake Parker, 11 of 27 on the day for 182 total yards of offense.
Great defense that we've seen from Creekside.
Creekside did not score an offensive touchdown in this game.
It was a pick six and a block punt to get them their points on the board and, when you needed to get points late in the game, Cartersville certainly did it.
Jake Parker, two throws for touchdowns on the night.
One of them, is you're trying to make sure that the coaches are gonna make that call.
What happens late?
- What happens late Jon?
- It's the T's, it's our play of the week!
It's what happens late, 21 yarder, late in the game.
Philllip Shiltz, 21 yarder in the last two minutes.
20, and that's Weinman Stadium, that's not the video.
That's what Weinman Stadium does when Cartersville scores.
So that touchdown pass from Parker to Schiltz with less than two minutes to go, big win for Cartersville.
They're now 30 and zero knocking off Creekside, 17, 14. looking forward to seeing these two teams late in the year when it comes to class five A.
So Creekside now two in one.
Cartersville at three and zero.
So you gotta see the highlights from football Fridays plus.
our play of the week.
- Well a good light show at a high school stadium, that's so cool.
- Very cool.
And it's like someone was sitting there and taking the light switch and going off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, freaking everybody out.
Very cool at Weinman stadium.
Good addition there and good to see everybody up there in Cartersville, Darrell Demastus, the athletic director.
Connor Foster, thanks for helping us out.
For our football Fridays in Georgia premier here in 2021.
- I thought we picked a really good one to start with.
- Mm-hmm and it was obviously with Maurice Dixon, you're going to get a great defensive show.
You got that from Creekside.
- Oh you got that.
Cartersville, one of the great environments here for football Friday.
So, we will endeavor to give you games like that every single week here at GPB.
- All right, let's whip around the rest of the state and take a look at my top five scores.
The games that I had my eye on and look at that.
Fancy.
- Wow.
We are stepping up in the world.
- Oh see now because the graphic is now new you can say fancy TV graphic, I get this, all right.
- Looks so good.
Thank you so much to our graphics department.
Chris, he is the best.
- Ballard crushes it.
- Chris Ballard is the absolute best.
Let's start with the big region matchup in seven A, Marietta was down early in the game, made a huge comeback against number eight, Camden County, 40 to 17.
Then at Norman Park, number seven Colquitt County defeated Valdosta 48 to 42, what a game that was.
Grayson just edged out Archer 15 to 13, The number one team in seven A, Collins Hill blanking Rome 34 to nothing and a big AA quad A, non-region matchup in AA, Thomasville defeated for a Bainbridge 28 to 10.
What do you think about the games that I had my eye on Jon?
- Collins hill now four and O, obviously when you pair up Moultrie and Valdosta, you're gonna get fireworks there.
You look at Bainbridge and Thomasville, two coaches that are truly more than happy to play anybody, any place, any time twice on Tuesday, out on Georgia 300 or I-75 if they need to.
Then Zach Grage from Thomasville, they go to a Oconee County this week.
So that's gonna be one of the games to keep an eye on.
Bainbridge and Jeff Littleton, they challenged themselves already this year by going to Douglas and taking on Coffee.
So, those two guys are a list of coaches that will play anybody and you got to see those great matchups there and you kinda get to gauge yourself if you're in a lower classification against the higher classification team to get you ready for the postseason run too.
- All right, Jon.
Your scores, your turn.
- Okay.
So let's see what my fancy TV graphic looks like.
- [Hannah] Oh you haven't seen them yet?
- No I haven't.
- Ah there you are!
- [Jon] Lee County and Lowndes.
Once again we caught up with head coach Dean Fabrizio at Lee County for the football Fridays in Georgia podcast.
Got his view on that.
Once again, one of the top teams in seven A, one of the top teams in six A, challenging each other, Leesburg and Lowndes.
Warner Robbins in Northside, the battle of Georgia, 247 in the international city was all Warner Robbins.
There Fitzgerald squeaks past Dodge County.
Once again, you wanna challenge yourself.
Two teams that should be in the playoff discussion, come the post-season, Dougherty.
One of the big upsets on the board.
A lot of folks have had Northeast Macon in their top tens.
Dougherty comes away with a 10 to seven win.
And since Joel Ingram was also on the Football Fridays in Georgia podcast, Washington County was down.
They come back for the win against Swainsboro.
They had Evans this week, 22 to 21.
The Golden Hawks with the one point win over Swainsboro.
So that's my top five, with my arms folded.
Let me put my pen down.
My arms folded in a profile shot with the new graphic.
Thank you CB.
- Yes.
- Very, very cool.
- That's such a good picture.
- That Lee County game, whew.
- Mm-hmm.
- I wish we could have watched that during our broadcast because that one was, getting chippy.
- Yep.
Ousmane Kromah, freshmen running back from Lee County goes for 227 and three on 26 carries in that one.
Lee County was up 24, seven at the break.
Lowndes come storming back.
Lee County holds on at the end.
But once again, you want to challenge yourself early in the season.
You're going to be doing that with games like this.
Lee County comes out with a three point win.
One of the top teams in class six A.
- All right, before we turn the page onto the new week, what were your biggest takeaways from week five?
- Storyline!
So let's see what the fancy TV graphic looks like this time.
Meet the new boss and what I mean by that is, for those of us of a certain vintage, same as the old boss.
When you finish that sentence, a lot of the teams that are at the top of the rankings and a lot of the classes got the job done.
They're staying right where they are.
Blowout city.
You mentioned Collins Hill in Rome as one of your games of the week.
North Cobb put up 43 on Alpharetta.
You had Roswell putting up 45 on North Paulding, Marietta storming past Camden County, putting up 40 there.
So you had a lot of games where the margin of victory was big.
Buford over Myers park of North Carolina, 44, 17 just as an example.
Brunswick puts up 52 and knocking off new Hampstead, 52, 24.
And the little guy.
Once again, with your games of the week that we were talking about.
With a team like Thomasville going up against a team like Bainbridge.
Seeing that the teams in the lower classifications want to challenge themselves, going up against teams in higher classifications.
You're seeing that for another couple of weeks because of the region sizes that we have here.
But those are my three big storylines here this week.
- All right, we got a lot coming up on today's show and now Jon has to run in place.
- Kill my mic.
Here we go.
- Listen.
- Lanier County.
So here is what's coming up on the show today.
We are going to preview our Football Friday in Georgia game of the week.
What will that be?
We will find out very soon.
We will have the GPB top 10 rankings.
Rankings from seven A to four A this week.
- Uh-huh.
- We will have your games to watch.
- Aren't you running out of time in reading this promo?
- We'll have the top games to watch-- - I'm in Docksiders running in place!
- We'll hear from another coach like always.
If you guys didn't know, Jon took a trip around the world to interview all these coaches.
If you haven't seen them yet, heard them yet, go to our social media's, the YouTube page, the Twitter page, Instagram page.
What else is coming up on the show today?
We've got the kicker.
Ooh, this is a cool one.
This is a cool one.
And of course-- - I might survive by then if you quit reading this promo.
- The Facebook comments in just a minute.
I'm saving some on the side, as we get going.
We have our recruiting show promo.
(laughing) - All right see, you're unnecessarily prolonging the promo read.
- We're gonna talk about what Jon wrote this week.
All right, how many seconds was that?
- Eleven-ty billion.
- I think we're good, I think we're good!
Good job.
(Hannah clapping) - Exactly.
- You can thank your wife for that punishment right there.
That was her idea to run in place.
I could have reset the whole show and reintroduced us while you were doing all that too but.
- Yeah, the boss is always right and that's all I'm gonna say.
- Was that your workout for the day?
- Until tonight.
- All right if you're just now joining us.
- Walking.
- I'm Hannah Goodin and that's Jon Nelson, this is countdown to kickoff here on GPB sports, Facebook live.
If you're wondering why Jon is running in place, don't worry about it.
Don't worry about it.
Just join us back here next week and, we'll see what else we can come up with.
- Maybe I'll have my breath before we catch up with the recruiting 2021 seven o'clock on Friday.
- I'll give you a break.
I'll preview our game of the week.
Let's hit it.
This week the football Friday in Georgia broadcast will feature two high scoring offenses.
It's Mill Creek versus West Forsyth.
I cannot wait for this game.
The Wolverines are two and one, coming off an impressive 51 to 35 win over Walton.
Their only loss of the season so far was to class five A powerhouse Cartersville 38 to 31.
West Forsyth is led offensively by quarterback, Keegan Stover and running back Peyton Streko.
Mill Creek on the other hand is undefeated at three and zero and did not play last week.
The Hawks have already beaten Parkview and Norcross.
Coach Josh Lovelady's team has scored 119 points and their average margin of victory is 29.7 points.
Yes, you heard it, 29.7 points.
Their tough offensive players are quarterback Hayden Clark and running back Donovan Journey.
Kick off is set for 7:30 PM.
- Last week, Streko for West Forsyth runs for 267 and six.
Might want to keep an eye on him when it comes to make that kid an offer.
So, it might be a good talent for you to just to keep an eye on if these offensive numbers continue.
Caught up with head coach Dave Svehla from West Forsyth and Josh Lovelady from Mill creek yesterday.
Got a lot of insights heading into this game.
And once again, you wannna challenge yourself with your non-region schedule before you get into region play and this is a way to do it.
Three and zero versus two and one and recruiting 2021 starts us off at seven kickoff a little after 7:30 here on the great GPB.
- Mill Creek is number four in seven A, West Forsyth number nine in seven A.
Which leads us to our top 10 rankings and we'll start with that.
We'll start with seven A and we'll take a look at who they're up against on the rankings.
- [Jon] Collins Hill right now, still number one.
North Cobb, number two.
Once again, you look at those first five or six.
They're pretty much the same as we've been seeing right now with this week and as we're going forward, unless there's big upsets, you're probably going to be seeing a lot of these teams locked into these top 10's.
Collins Hill, North Cobb, Milton.
Milton will catch up with them in just a little bit.
Also, Mill Creek, Colquitt County.
With their win there at three and one.
Lowndes, two and two strength of schedule keeping them there.
Walton, Marietta, West Forsyth and Roswell at your top 10 in seven A.
Changing the page to six A.
Lets you see what's going on here.
Once again, Buford, Lee County, Carrollton, Hughes and Westlake.
We have those guys pretty much in the top five.
River Ridge, Amehre Morrison, one of the big running talents here in the state of Georgia.
At number six, Brunswick with their big win last week over New Hampstead at number seven.
Evans, we've talked about Evans going up against Washington County this week, there at number eight.
Rome with their loss to one of the top teams in seven A. I didn't drop them that far.
They're at number nine in our poll this week in six A and the glads, The Gladiators of Johns Creek.
They are your number 10.
Changing the page into five A. Warner Robbins, big win over Northside in the battle of the international city.
They are at number one.
Ware County, they're at number two and you see a lot of region one here.
Ware County, Coffee, a part of that discussion at two and three.
Cartersville, we saw their win.
Woodward Academy, Creekside, Calhoun, BT, Decatur, and Pius.
That wraps up five A and in quad A, as we're looking at the last page for this week.
Once again, a lot of the same guys that we've seen all season long near the top.
Jefferson, Marist, Carver Columbus, Benedictine.
Perry at number five, Cedartown, Flowery Branch, Stephenson making their way into the pole at number eight.
Dougherty with their big upset win over Northeast Macon puts them at nine.
And the Granger's, back in the poll for the first time in quite some time, they are at number 10.
That is seven, six, five and four.
You can go to gpb.org in the sports section, click on rankings and you get your rankings for all of the classifications.
Seven, six, five, four, three, two, single and single right there at GPB.org.
- And of course the GPB sports app, we've added a new feature.
There's a plus and minus arrow to see how far each team has gone up in the polls or down in the polls.
So that's pretty cool.
We're gonna try to add that, work it into our graphics here on this show as well.
So, cool new feature there.
- I like it.
- I like it too.
All right, games to watch for week number six.
- Six.
Ware County and Bainbridge.
Once again, we've talked about folks that want to challenge themselves.
Jason Strickland in Ware County and they are going to take on Jeff Littleton in Bainbridge.
Thomasville, Oconee County.
We talked about that one a little earlier.
Thomasville, Zack Gray Oconee County, making it to the last game of the year consistently.
That one's gonna be a fun one in Watkinsville.
Cairo and Fitzgerald.
Once again, you wanna challenge yourself.
Steve Devoursney, Tucker Pruitt, they will do exactly that.
And in the private class, BT at Eagles Landing Christian, you know, Jonathan Guests is looking forward to those kinds of challenges so he can be ready to get through that three game region sprint to get into the post season.
And here's another, one Irwin County and Tift.
Irwin County, these two schools about twenty-five minutes apart.
They're a part of that south Georgia, non-region element and Irwin County going to Tift, that one's going to be an interesting one.
With a Tift losing to Appling last week, how did they respond on their first year of head coach Noel Dean, Casey Soliday, wanting to challenge themselves as they get into region play in the region of doom.
There's another couple that off the top of my head, I think Pearson Clinch is one to keep an eye on.
Obviously Wesleyan and PAC is a part of the discussion.
Sandy Creek of Westminster Lovett in South Atlanta.
If you're here locally, Cherokee and Cartersville.
We've talked about Evans and Waco and once again, off the top, I mentioned Buford and Chaminade-Madonna having to play folks outside the state because of what Buford has been able to build when it comes to their pedigree.
So they're having to play teams from outside the state of Georgia for their non-region schedule this year.
- Speaking of Fitzgerald and head coach Tucker Pruitt, Jon Nelson got the chance to catch up with him to talk about all of these tough non-region schedules, region schedules.
We're getting a lot of comments about tough non-region and region schedules.
Let's see what he has to say.
- When it comes to the season so far, look at your non-region schedule and tell me what you see.
- A lot of really good football teams.
A lot of really well-coached football teams and a lot of big tests early.
You know we've got a young and kind of inexperienced football team this year.
We lost 22 seniors and there's a lot of spots that are still wide open for competition.
We got our game one moved and our second scrimmage canceled and so as a young inexperienced team, you need a lot of reps and we haven't been afforded that opportunity with a little bit of the COVID bug but we're trying to fight through it and just get better every day because we're going to need to make a lot of improvements as the season goes on.
- And getting into that second season region plays, you and I both know traditionally, it's one of the toughest regions in AA.
One of the toughest regions in the state, what's your analysis of it this year?
- Well, it doesn't get any easier.
You know, obviously Thomas feels, kinda at the top, it always goes through them.
They got a really good team, a lot of guys back and we got a lot of respect for their program.
Worth County beat Turner last week.
So, year two with Coach ironside, I think they're much improved.
Early County is always a tough game for us.
They play us really tough.
Tough team on defense and that ought to be a good one.
And then, you know, last year we got canceled with Cook but I know they've got a great program too.
And so, them and Berry and you know, it's kind of a lot of the same.
We gotta be ready to play our best football every Friday.
- Good stuff Jon, good stuff from Coach Pruitt.
- It's always good to catch up with Tucker Pruitt.
Remember Fitzgerald made it through the last game of the year in AA before losing to Callaway and one of the overarching themes that I've noticed this season, a lot of folks graduated last year.
A lot of coaches have told me, you know, we're a young team.
I mean literally that would be like one of the first things they said, we're a young team this year.
And then he would mention how many folks have graduated.
So, a lot of young teams but once again, when you're starting freshmen, sophomores and juniors, then they're not really freshmen, sophomores and juniors as you're getting into region play game eight, nine and 10.
So, you're gaining that experience and you're gaining it in a lot of difficult ways, especially with non-region games like the one that Fitzgerald has put up for themselves this year.
- All right, right after this show, we always shoot recruiting 2021, which airs on Friday at seven.
Fitzgerald has a - Friday, Friday, Friday.
lot of good talent with offers so, we like to, our favorite segment on this is make that kid an offer.
- [Jon] Well yeah.
We're supposed to point to the camera and yell it when we do that.
- Well, we decided to go with this beautiful, full screen graphic this time.
- Make that kid an offer!
That's how it's-- (dramatic horn music plays) There's this!
Way to go (laughing) TS in the audio booth.
He's on it.
- What are you guys talking about on the show today?
- Recruiting.
What do you think.
Duh, duh.
- Obviously Jon.
- Now while we're also, we're talking about the recruits that are tied to the game of the week here for Football Fridays in Georgia looking at West Forsyth, one of the top Titans in the country is under the microscope for West Forsyth.
Also for the folks at Mill Creek and the interviewer of the stars, someone named Hannah Goodin got to catch up with said tight end in Oscar Delp.
We'll catch up with him from West Forsyth.
We're gonna take a tour around the state and who's gonna be diving in, who's saying where they're going, who's recommitting, who is keeping the promise ring on their finger and the Letterman jacket as they're sitting there and saying that, I'm not changing where I'm going until maybe late November, early December.
We'll get into that.
And we also have make that kid an offer and a new segment that we've started.
And I can't quite say it the way it should be said because I might run under copyright infringement, but getting it done is the segment and we look at folks in the colleges and the pros who have ties to high school football here in the state of Georgia and we're showing you, who's getting it done at the next level too.
So that's, that's pretty cool.
- Have to say Oscar Delp-- - Can't quite say that they're getting, no, I can't go there 'cause we might get in trouble so it's getting it done.
- Got it.
- Yes.
- Got it.
Make sure we're covering all of our bases there.
- Get her, no I can't do it.
- Oscar Delp was probably my favorite interview so far this season.
Really cool kid, he just visited Clemson.
He's going to visit Georgia this weekend for the South Carolina game.
He will be in Columbia and then his other top school is Michigan.
His dad grew up in Michigan, that's why they're kind of a wild card.
I think he'll probably stay down here in the Southeast, but he plans to announce soon.
- 'Cause Michigan hasn't quite - figured out how to use tight ends appropriately.
Yeah, yeah.
- Yeah, yeah.
Match up problem.
- So don't miss that interview tomorrow at seven.
All right I left a ton of time for Facebook comments, sections of the Facebook comment section.
I've been copying and pasting them to the side.
So let's start with Greg Roper.
Do you have a Rockmart Yellow Jackets helmet yet, if not we gotta make that happen.
- Yes, we need to make that happen.
No we do not have a Rockmart Yellow Jackets helmet.
- I was about to say, wait, you just said, yes, we don't.
- I know, it's like, yes we have no, anyway.
- Yes we need one.
- Yes comma, we would like to add a Rockmart helmet to the set.
That's a great idea.
- Evan Reese is having bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a croissant after his class is over.
- That's strong.
- Oh, that sounds really good.
- Amazing.
- That sounds really good.
- Uh-huh.
- Bill Sanders, lunch today is from Wild Wing Cafe.
I believe Bill Sanders profile picture is an R for Warner Robbins.
We were at that Wild Wing Cafe just last month.
Couple months ago.
- Down close to freedom field down there and Warner Robbins and tremendous food there as well.
So Bill, well done.
Excellent choice.
- Yeah, we ate there.
- Steve K. Here's Steve Karter, which has been quiet lately.
We haven't heard a whole lot from Steve Karter.
- He's hanging out.
- He's having a very healthy lunch, peanut butter sandwich and a glass of milk.
- Okay, well peanut butter or peanut butter and jelly.
Now when you go-- - Just peanut butter.
Just peanut butter.
- Okay when we go PB.
- At least he's getting his protein in Steve.
- Nothing wrong with that, I usually will go with wheat bread if I'm doing a PB and J and I will alternate between grape and strawberry, depending on what my vibe is at any given particular moment.
- He also says, when will Hannah come down to Ocilla?
We'll let the twins in - When will Hannah come down for free!
- to Ocilla?
- If the twins are in for free, we're there.
We're there.
they're gonna be expensive.
You don't even want to know how expensive things are about to get.
And lastly from Steve Karter, the Cornbread Bowl should be fun tomorrow.
- Yup and Irwin and Tift once again, those two schools, 25 minutes apart.
It's always fun to see these region rivalries going at each other here in the non-region part of the schedule.
And so yeah, Irwin and Tift for a bunch of different reasons, there's a lot of context added to this one other than just the rivalry.
So that one's gonna be a fun one down there in south Georgia.
- Lots more comments coming in, let us know what game you're watching.
We love your score predictions.
Greg Roper says my Marietta Blue Devils versus Parkview is gonna be a good game.
We haven't talked about that one yet have we?
- No.
Marietta right now, we talked about their win over Camden, it was a tight one for a while.
It was 2017 going into the fourth and then a 20 point fourth quarter for Marietta gives them the duke there at two and one.
Parkview at two and two out of the blocks and I think that this one, it'll be good for a couple of different reasons.
Once again, you get to see teams in Cobb County and Gwinnett County figure out where they are when it comes to where they think they are heading into region play.
And you're looking at once again, two teams trying to bring in their first year talent on the starting 11's and figure out where they are as they head into region place.
So sneaky good game with these two.
- Charles Smith is having chicken delight in Ocilla.
- Okay.
- Pedro Senior.
- Let us know what chicken delight is.
- I know, I'm like what is chicken delight?
That sounds great.
- Uh-huh.
- Peach County opens region play this week at Mary Persons.
Definitely had a challenging non-region schedule.
Another one of those, tough non-regions.
- Mm-hmm.
- Yeah Peach County, they started off playing folks like Central Phoenix City as a part of their non-region schedule now.
So what Chad Campbell also likes to do, is try to play teams that are in his area because once again, you're adding to that rivalry there in Houston County and Peach County there as well.
And when you're going up against Mary Persons, you can go back into our library and see the conversations that we've had with head coach Brian Nelson at Mary Persons and Chad Campbell at Peach County.
And once again, these are two great communities and this'll be an early statement game in this region for Peach County and for Mary Persons, the winner that comes out of this one.
- And finally, Rodney Jonson Coffee versus Glenn Academy.
- Yes.
Once again, you're talking about two schools that will sit there, play each other.
Doesn't matter where.
Robbie Pruitt and Coffee there in Douglas, Rocky Hidalgo, his interview was posted this week on all of the social media channels here at Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Good to catch up with Coach Rock down there for the Red Terrors and see what's going on there once again.
And it was a point that Rocky made in his interview.
It's difficult for him to schedule non-region games because if he goes any more east, he's having to schedule Hamilton High out of Bermuda.
There there is nobody east of him to schedule and so he's having to schedule teams sometimes in Florida, sometimes South Carolina in years past.
This week, it's going to be going up against a tough team in Coffee.
That's gonna be an interesting one, which side of the ball wins out superiority here?
Is it the defense or the offense?
What kind of a game do we see?
It'll be an interesting contrast there.
- Okay, we saved the best for last.
The kicker, this week we go a little bit out of state.
- A little bit.
But it involves a team in-state though.
- Little bit out of state.
It's Milton versus St. Joseph's prep in Philadelphia!
- And here's your game winning touchdown.
Milton wins the game over St. Joe's prep.
Big win for Milton on the road, 28, 21 USA today's number 12, team nationally.
St. Joseph's prep goes down to Adam Clack 28 to 21.
It was an 18 game winning streak I believe, that got knocked off the board.
As Milton went north, played on a Saturday and knocked off one of the top teams in the country.
St. Joseph's prep out of Pennsylvania.
Good win on the road and there's a lot of frequent flyer miles that were attached to this one.
Good win for Milton as they go to three and one.
- Three and one, how do you even schedule a team?
- There are folks that do these kinds of things and they'll sit there and they will orchestrate these games.
Like you'll see on the national level or you'll have these weekends, it'll be doubleheaders and things like that.
So there are folks whose number one goal is to set up these kinds of match-ups and see if you're interested in traveling, seeing if you're interested in challenging yourself in something like this.
And as we've talked about with a team like Buford, having to schedule out of state.
Sometimes these opportunities will come to you and you sit there and it's like, okay, I think I want to challenge myself on a national scale.
And what it does, is it gets you noticed nationally.
It also gets your players, who might not be seen outside of your own little footprint, gets them seen nationally as well to get them ready for the next level.
So there's a couple of reasons to do stuff like this but a great win for Milton in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
- Good stuff.
