Welcome into "Countdown To Kickoff", here on GPV Sports, Facebook Live.
I'm Hannah Goodin, alongside Jon Nelson.
We are back in our fancy studio for another amazing season of GPV Sports.
Huge shout out to our crew for getting this all ready.
The lights, the helmets, it's week zero, Jon.
- Big shout out to all of the coaches, who've helped us out with adding the new helmets this year.
And a lot of them are from Central Swing off to my right, as you're taking a peek over here.
Let's see, we got Warner Robins, (indistinct), Perry, Bleckley, Northside Warner Robbins, Houston County, (indistinct) here behind me.
- I'm hiding Valdosta.
- Veterans.
- Veterans.
Veterans.
- Veterans is here.
They're new for this season as well.
- Lee County.
- Yeah, Lee, yeah.
And so, you've got Lincoln and all of our other partners here, who've been great with us.
But if you and your school want to be added to the set, all you gotta do is shout out, shout out to Hannah, shout out to me, shout out to us on social media, and give us a buzz on the phone and we can add it to this incredible set that the State of Georgia has helped contribute to.
And we want to continue to show off the State to the rest of the State.
If you got a helmet that doesn't meet spec anymore, but it's still striped out, let us show it off for the rest of the State.
- We also have some anniversaries we're celebrating here at GPB this season, Jon.
- Yes, we do.
And let's see, one of them is that many and the other is that many.
- So it's the 10th anniversary of the Football Fridays in Georgia.
And it's the 25th anniversary of championships on our airwaves.
And fun fact, Jon has been there for every single one of 'em.
- First championship game that we showed was a championship weekend for us was in 1997.
And those tapes are lying around here someplace, and yeah, Silver Anniversary season for us here at Georgia Public Broadcasting showing the State Championships and we a sprint, believe me, you think it's gonna start off, and you know, you're in August, you're in late August and September.
No, we will get to the championships like that.
It will be a sprint getting to Georgia State.
It'll be fun.
25 years here at Georgia Public Broadcasting.
So, Hannah it's really good stuff.
- Yes, it is.
And we've got a lot coming up on the first show of the season.
It is week zero, so we want to hear who you are watching.
We want to know what your game predictions are in the comment section.
And of course, the most important part-- - The most important part.
- What's for lunch?
- Yes!
Hannah will be having lunch before I will.
She will make a point to sit here and let me know what she's having for lunch.
Before I have the opportunity to actually get a bite to eat, we want to know what you're having for lunch.
So you can just make all of us here at GPB hungry as we're doing "Countdown To Kickoff" every single week.
So we want to know what's going on for lunch for you guys today, share it with us and make us hungry.
That's the bottom line.
- Quick look in the comments section.
Jared Yandell is here of course, he says, "Welcome back, y'all."
Matt Wolff, "We're back."
Michael Baxter is here, "Good afternoon, "everyone at GPB Sports."
Ian Odom, Rodney Jonson, Tyree McCall, we've got more, I'll get to those in just a bit.
- Keep 'em coming.
- But first, as we know, things have gotten started on the Corky Kell Kickoff Classic I love that tongue twister, Corky Kell Kickoff Classic.
- There you go.
- But most of the games will be kicking off this Friday and Saturday.
Jon, what are your top games to watch?
- All of them, choice D, but actually here's a fancy full screen.
So, fancy full screen time for the first time here in 2021.
Here are mine that are outside the City of Atlanta, and this is just a small sample.
Rabun County and Jefferson, outside of Atlanta.
It is an hour away at...
It's an hour away, you know, Jefferson Memorial Stadium up by Chateau Alon.
I'm probably gonna be there just to see Malaki Starks and Gunner Stockton going at it here in match number one, game number one.
Brooks County and Thomasville, two coaches that will play anybody, any place, anytime, twice on Tuesday, if you need to, Maurice Freeman and Zach Grage.
Dalton and Calhoun up in Northwest Georgia at the Reed.
Houston County and Perry, that's a good central swing match up.
North Side Warner Robins and Veterans at Freedom Field.
And you wanted to add one from the City of Atlanta area.
And it's a good one, yours is right there at the bottom of the page.
- Hapeville Charter at Milton, and that's because we talked to a lot of these coaches around the State in different media days, and I was able to catch up with Winston Gordon and Coach Adam Clack.
And here's what they had to say about their game.
- I think we've just done a great job of building consistency.
You know, it starts from the top from, from our administration to our athletic director, to myself and my staff.
And they helped me bring in the right people and we've been able to keep those guys.
And so, we're going into year five here.
And you know, it's nice to know that the weight room is gonna run the way the weight room is supposed to run.
The offense is going to run, the defense is going to run, our special teams coordinator, all the way through, we've been able to build some consistency and continuity there.
And I think you see that with our players and they feel that and respond to that.
- I just lined up the best 7A that I could find.
Anybody that'll play me, I'll play them.
We played Milton the first game of the season at Milton.
we start off at Johns Creek in the scrimmage, Harrideth, Pebblebrook, you know, Woodwork Academy, whoever will play me, I'll play them.
We just want to line up opponents that'll get us ready so that we know what we are before the season start.
And we try to make sure that we get a quality enough opponent to give us that type of respect that we want to earn.
(air swooshes) - That matchup is set for Friday at 7:30 at the Eagle's Nest.
And it's funny that Coach Clack is getting a nice home game to start off the season, because most of his big games will be on the road.
Now, they're ranked one, arguably two in the State right now.
And he credits consistency on all sides of the ball, including staff, classroom, everything, consistency across the board for their success.
- And in "Recruiting 2021", there's gonna be a guy that we're gonna be focusing on, LT Overton, the top junior in the country, anchoring that defensive line.
You've seen him on Football Fridays in Georgia ever since he was a freshmen.
And by the way, did you see the size of that rock that Adam Clack wore in that interview with Hannah?
- [Hannah] A little state championship ring.
- That's something where you can sit there and go, okay, here's your motivation right here.
This is what we're chasing after, when it comes to to 2021.
It's the size of that rock right there.
But yeah, Milton and Hapeville Charter, very underrated matchup here in week zero slash game one.
- All right, that was my game.
Jon focused his games on outside the Atlanta area.
We have one of our favorite contributors, Todd Holcomb of GHSF Daily.
He has his take on what his top games are.
Let's take a listen.
(air swooshes) - A lot of good ones, you know, when it's not a region, you know, there's a lot of inner region play and interstate play.
I think the best game, if you just talking about the two best teams that are playing each other, would be Buford and North Cobb.
Buford is defending champion in 6A, and North Cobb was ranked number three, probably has their best team ever.
And they beat Buford last year.
They're number three in 7A, so that'll be a good one.
Then I think another one, you know, Jefferson is number one in 4A, and our rankings for Rabun County is number one in 2A.
Rabun County's playing at Jefferson.
That's another great one.
Rabun County, obviously has a great quarterback, Gunner Stockton, and then Jefferson also has one in Starks, so that should be pretty fun.
And then Corky Kell, who were of Alabama first out-of-state team.
Corky Kell, they're playing North Gwinnett.
It's kind of a Georgia, Alabama rivalry.
And then the other last two games I'll mention.
Corky Kell, Marietta's playing Colquitt County, Walton is playing Lowe, so you've got two Cobb County teams that are really up and coming, that'll be better this year.
And they're playing, you know, the two most successful South Georgia teams in the highest class.
(air swooshes) - Thanks, Todd.
I caught up with him on Zoom.
He also told me his players to watch, his underdogs to watch, that full video will be on YouTube soon.
And Jon, how can people subscribe to GHSF Daily?
We got to give Todd a shout out.
- Here's the easiest way, go to Twitter, and it's @GHSFdaily, D A I L Y.
- [Hannah] Spelling.
- Yes, I know.
Spelling for me, especially when I'm waiting for what's for lunch from everybody.
@GHSFdaily.
Follow them on Twitter, and then there are ways to get to the newsletter and you can subscribe.
It shows up in your mailbox about 4:30 every morning.
And it's a tremendous resource for those of us here at Georgia Public Broadcasting, when it comes to everything that we need to know, and match ups and things like that, that might've slipped through the cracks in our research, go to their Twitter feed @GHSFdaily, subscribe that way.
It's got the links to their website, I think it's, georgiahighschoolfootballdaily..
But the links are there, click through it, subscribe to it, great resource for everybody that wants to know everything about high school football here in the State of Georgia, Hannah.
- Absolutely.
Well, it's amazing we're able to talk about games to watch, but we kind of skipped over a huge chunk, which is the off season.
And it's been a wild one.
What are your biggest storylines from off season and leading into the fall?
- Well, we got on the field stuff and off the field stuff.
Let's go to the fancy TV graphic time again for the second time.
New Faces and New Places.
And this was where I spent a little bit of time with my column this week, talking about coaches, taking over for long-time tenured coaches, whether it's up at Union County, whether it's for Paul Standard.
Hannah, and you were privy to the St. Pius situation with Coach Garrison, now taking over for Coach Standard, who's now at Gilmer up in the mountains.
You have Jordan Mullis taking over for Rick Tomberlin at Appling County.
You have all of the names that are taking over for story programs into DeKalb County.
DeKalb County, they had to find one to replace a legend in Ron Gartrell at Stephenson.
Marcus Jelks is there for that one.
So, there's a lot that's going on with all of these new coaches, turnover's usually about 18 to 20% here in the State of Georgia, who isn't playing.
Right now, we're up to, I believe, 18 match-ups that were supposed to be here in this weekend that are not because of COVID-19 concerns.
We'll keep an eye on that as a storyline, all the way throughout the season, cross border battles.
We have a couple of those this week, and it's something to keep an eye on for non region games, where you have teams from bordering states coming in.
Hoovers coming in to play.
Tomorrow, they're gonna play North Gwinnett.
You've got Richmond Hill taking on Buford South Carolina.
You've got North Augusta taking on Lakeside Evans, those kinds of cross border battles.
And then Milestones obviously, brought to us by the number 400.
Really, that's the first milestone that comes to mind for me.
And once again, Alan Chadwick.
Next win for him, number 400 here as a Head Coach in the State of Georgia.
Number two behind Larry Campbell, and he's still 83 games or 82 games, I think, behind Larry Campbell.
And when you talked to Alan Chadwick, it was a fun conversation to hear about what he thinks about the record getting 400 and then Larry Campbell.
- I'll give a little nugget, but we're gonna play it next week.
So I don't want to give too much away, but he basically said, it could be a while until he gets 400.
He's always so modest.
Their first game is against BT.
- That'll be a tough one.
- So it'll be a tough one, but he said it could be like five, six games in.
And I was like, "Oh, come on, Coach."
(both laugh) I did have to refer to my notes to figure out which year he had started there.
1985.
- As a Head Coach.
- As a Head Coach.
- Yes.
- And I wasn't born yet.
So, I didn't tell him that.
Don't worry, I didn't tell him that, but I wanted to.
- Yeah, he was an assistant under Dean Hargus for Marist before he took over as Head Coach.
But yeah, he's been there.
He's one of the great high school coaches here in the State of Georgia.
And it's great to see Alan Chadwick getting this close to yet another milestone as he kind of all shucks his way through all of these numbers.
One of the true forces when it comes to high school sports and high school football here in the State of Georgia, Alan Chadwick, one win away from 400.
We'll be keeping an eye on that, as he gets closer and closer to Larry Campbell at Lincoln County and see how close does he get?
Does he stay in there long enough to get to Larry Campbell?
Does he stop in the 480's?
What does he do?
That's another question over the next handful of years.
- You left one small thing off your biggest storylines.
- Okay.
- It's a school called Valdosta.
- Yes, off the field, yes.
- Off the field, new Head Coach, Shelton Felton - Yeah, Shelton Felton, the new Head Coach at Valdosta.
Obviously, everyone knows the off the field stuff, with what-- - Do they know?
- Well.
(Hannah laughs) But yeah, I mean, it's only a national story.
But with everything that happened and is still happening with Rush Propst, Shelton Felton is now the new Head Coach at Valdosta.
Remember, Valdosta will not be able to play in the post-season.
They received a post-season ban, in addition to the fines that were levied by the GHSA.
So, something to keep an eye on in that region.
Everybody's making the playoffs, Valdosta ranked top 10, as high as number three in some polls here in the State.
How much of an issue does it become if Valdosta was to say, win the region championship and just to have that region championship, obviously, everyone moves up a slot when it comes to your post-season seatings and things.
But how much of the subplot is Valdosta and Shelton Felton here in 2021 and in their region play?
How much of a force will they be, and how much of a message are they going to want to send about not being able to participate in the post-season?
That's another definite storyline off the field.
- [Hannah] Yeah.
- Probably the biggest one.
- You could never count Valdosta out.
So we will be watching them with binoculars all season.
All right, we got more coming up on this show.
Do not miss the GPB Top 10 Rankings, that's coming up.
We will have more coach interviews, and a very special kicker at the end, that you definitely don't want to miss.
- No.
- But first, let's get into those Facebook comments.
Keep the comments rolling in.
Let us know what's for lunch.
Looks like Michael Baxter at Chick-fil-A.
- Okay.
- That's probably where I'm headed today.
- Okay, all right.
Michael Devane says, "Love the new music.
"Welcome to the 2021 football season."
We can thank our Director, Bonk, for the awesome music.
Well, Brad's in there too.
Yep.
Love all that awesome new music.
Rodney Jonson says, "Coffee, Helman is coming."
So, didn't he say that last season?
- Hey-- - We're ready for it.
- And oh, by the way, I should be visiting, weather permitting, Southern Swing will be next week.
Looking forward to it, and I guess this is my shout out.
Wiregrass, Tuesday is your day.
So anticipate a visit to Douglas, where we're parachuting in to catch up with Coach Pruitt and everybody down there at Coffee.
- Awesome.
Adam Estes, "Does anyone know anything about Westover?"
- Westover is going to be one of those teams that you're really gonna have to pay attention to.
But once again, you're talking about a team that has to navigate its non region schedule first.
And so, if you're looking at Westover, Westover's been ranked top 10 in some polls as well.
But once again, and this is a reminder that I will give everyone, every single year when it comes to rankings, and wins and losses.
Just because, in your non region schedule, if your region is a sprint, where you have maybe four or five teams, and it's a very, very short region, like region ones and region twos and such, if your team has a larger number to the right of the dash in non region play than to the left-hand side, like if you're one in three or one in four, or two in four, something like that, and you're in a mini region, don't be concerned about that stuff.
Remember, you make your hay in season two, your region schedule.
So, if a team that is currently in the rankings in a top 10, drifts out, because of a large non region schedule, or because of the heavyweights that are playing in their non region schedule, keep an eye on their region play.
That's where you want to make your hay.
You want to be the region champ.
You want to have your home games as a one and a two seed.
So don't be surprised if you see a lot of fluctuation in rankings, including ours here at GPB with our top 10's, just because of all the heavyweight non region match-ups that have to be played, because regions are different and of differing sizes.
So keep an eye on Westover, keep an eye on them in region play, see how well they do with their non region schedule and see how they progress into top 10's, where they'd been ranked in some polls.
- Adam's having Barbara's Restaurant in Moultrie.
That sounds good.
- That's wrong.
- One more question, then we've got to move on.
So keep them coming in.
Paisley Amanda Slade, "Who y'all got for the Collins Hill "versus Brookwood Corky Kell game?
I know you don't pick favorites, so maybe a really quick 30 second preview.
- Well, Brookwood, obviously, with a lot of the losses that they had, where North Cobb had move-ins and it was four players from the Brookwood side.
I think that Brookwood will be getting to full song as the season goes along, as they get into region play.
So keep an eye on Brookwood there.
Collins Hill, obviously, we're keeping an eye on Sam Horn and Travis Hunter, and that's gonna be a fun combination on offense all season long.
So, I'm looking at Collins Hill in this one to show what they mean to be at the top of the rankings.
Brookwood, I'm looking at as their season goes along, getting adjusted to having all of those key losses, Marquis Jones, (indistinct) and players like that.
I think Brookwood will be growing into the season.
I think that Collins Hill is gonna want to make a statement out of the block.
- All right, if you're just now joining us, this is "Countdown To Kickoff", here on GPB Sports, Facebook live.
That's Jon Nelson.
I'm Hannah Goodin.
Since you just mentioned rankings, let's roll right into them.
The GPB Top 10 Rankings are out.
They are voted on by our broadcast team, all of our GPB Sports contributors.
It's a multiple different people.
They divvy it all up, add it all up.
- There's math involved.
- And it's math.
So, I'm gonna let you go through these, Jon.
And we'll start with 7A.
- Seven, six, five and four this week.
So let's go to fancy TV graphic time and show you a bunch of ratings and rankings when it comes to our top 10's here.
And you have a lot of differing conversations.
A lot of these teams, you've got 7A, Milton, North Cobb, Collins Hill.
- [Hannah] There they are, Milton at the top!
- One, two and three.
Walton right now, remember, this is a composite.
Walton's your number four.
Lowndes, Cherokee, Grayson at seven, Archer at eight, Camden County with Jeff Heron in region one 7A there at number nine.
Oh, Brad that's gorgeous.
- [Hannah] Yes!
- West Forsyth is your number 10.
Now, let's take a peak at 6A, - [Hannah] Love that box.
- And show you what's going on there on the next page.
Buford, Lee County, a lot of folks were thinking that that is going to be the championship game, as they've already started filling out their brackets.
Hughes, Westlake, those are gonna be great games there as well.
Carrollton with Joey King.
Allatoona is your number six.
River Ridge with a great running game, is right now your number seven.
Evans, Rome and Valdosta is number 10 in our composite pole.
I will say, I would just go ahead and say, I had Valdosta ranked higher than a lot of folks did in our composite poll, with Valdosta is our composite number 10.
Changing over to 5A, show you what's going on there.
BT, Warner Robins, Ware, now, this really, you look at 5A, this is just absolutely stacked.
You go through with this.
BT, Warner Robins, Ware, Coffee, Jones, Calhoun, Cartersville, Starr's Mill, Eastside, Woodward.
I had in my composite, all of the teams from region one in my pre-season top 10 in 5A.
That shows you how stacked region one is, and that shows you where 5A is.
Let's show you where 4A is in our composite at GPB.
Marist, Jefferson with Malaki Starks.
Not a surprise, Marist is number one.
"To be the man, you got to beat the man."
Quoting Richard Flier, one of the great orders of this era.
And right now, Marist is the man.
Jefferson, Malaki Starks, Carver Columbus, Bainbridge with Jeff Littleton, Benedict and Danny Britt.
I had them a little higher in my composite.
Flowery Branch, Cedartown, Baldwin is at eight.
Hardaway and Northwest Whitfield, they put up a lot of points last year.
Can they do it again?
That is seven, six, five and four in our composite at gpb.org in our top 10's.
Next week, we will show you AAA, AA, single A public, single A private, that's how we'll do the polls every week.
We alternate and show you four each week.
So, next week, triple, double, single, single, but that is seven, six, five, and four, as we head into week zero in game one.
- Yep, if we'd had an hour show, we'd be able to get through them all.
But our regulars know, we spread the love out.
So, we'll get to those smaller classifications next week.
All right.
Back on 5A, the number two ranked, Demons, are gonna put up a big season.
They kick off Saturday against Valdosta.
That will be one that I will be watching.
You were able to catch up with Marquis Westbrook, Head Coach.
Let's see what he has to say about his season.
- There you go.
(air swooshes) - Going into this season, we really wanted to harp on just, you know, building this team's identity and not piggybacking off of, you know, the 2020 team.
We got a good group of seniors.
Those guys are capable.
They're capable of leading us, but they got to learn to take the reins.
So, we're gonna, you know, try to keep that momentum, but not try to just harp on the 2020 season too much.
We got to get rid of every (indistinct), we don't get a break.
And that's another thing we emphasize to our kids.
We gotta be everyday.
And I know it sounds cliche, you gotta come to work every day, but every week we got some heavy hitters, in our region from top to bottom and they're, I mean, they're tough.
So we got to teach our kids, that once we go to work, we're at work and we got to go to work every week.
(air swooshes) - Awesome stuff, Jon.
You have been on the road, Central Swing, Southern Swing is coming up next week.
What has your road trip been like to interview all these coaches?
- It's been... Well, and obviously it's very fruitful, as everybody here in studio, he has been able to show you with the new helmets that have been added this year, but it's been great to catch up with folks, especially in some of the tougher regions that a lot of folks may not necessarily get the chance to see a whole lot, like region one in 5A, and what you're looking at there as well.
You know, you looking at teams like Peach County and what they're looking to do, and you'll see them in the rankings next week, when we look at four, three for a three, two, single and single.
And what Chad Campbell has been able to do over time.
And then you see what Marquis Westbrook has been able to do, getting to the last game of the year and consistently getting that program deep into playoff runs, chasing after championships.
And one of the guys, and this is kind of a plug for "Recruiting 2021".
Vic Burley, who is right there in line with LT Overton, when it comes to one of the top recruits here in the State of Georgia, is only a junior.
Once again, guys that we've seen since their freshman years, Vic Burley, one of the big defensive lineman for Warner Robins, he's gonna be a force.
And you wonder with graduation at Warner Robins, how things are going to be off offensively.
But once again, you talk to Marquis Westbrook and you see that they are prepping for deep playoff runs, chasing after championships.
2021 will be no different with him in charge as it has been the last couple of years.
- And all these interviews will be on all of our social media platforms.
You can actually find them right now.
Okay.
All of these top teams we've been talking about all show long are loaded with talent!
Our show, "Recruiting 2021" is back.
It will be digital for a few Fridays until our very first game, September 10th.
We have not announced our game yet.
That's when it will air on TV, but we are taping "Recruiting 2021" today, Jon.
- Yeah, we are.
And it's gonna be interesting to see all of the off season news that's happened there.
We get to talk a little bit about name, image and likeness and its impact on the national rankings, which impacts a player in the State of Georgia, that we talked about with Collins Hill and Travis Hunter.
So we get to talk about that.
We get to talk about the impact that the State of Georgia's had on the National Football League draft in round one.
That's another storyline there as well.
And just where every one is going, because remember, signing day is the week after the championships.
And so, you have to be prepared for that as well.
So it's like, when you think the season's over, it's really not.
Because signing day shows up then and you have all of this movement, who's going where?
Who's going where?
Who's going where?
We have as best of an answer for you as possible.
But I always look at recruiting this way.
It's like Glengarry Glen Ross, get them to sign on the line which is dotted.
A always be B be, C closing, always be closing.
This is the time when you see all of these student athletes, Hannah, and they say they're going to one place.
They say they're going someplace else.
- [Hannah] They switch it up.
- Until they sign on the line which is dotted, this is when the recruiting actually starts in (indistinct).
- And we can't forget about the best part of the show, Make That Kid An Offer.
- Yes!
And if you have a student athlete, presented by our friends at Farm Bureau Insurance.
If you have a student athlete that you know, for your favorite team that is overlooked, underappreciated, under starred, just for some reason or another, they're not getting the looks that you think they deserve, that is where Make That Kid An Offer comes into play.
And you can submit statistics, both on the field and off, we're looking for the well-rounded student athletes, grade point, test scores, community service, all the stuff on the field as well, Make That Kid An Offer is a key part of "Recruiting 2021".
So, at the end of the show, every single week, and there are ways to send submissions to us every single week, to be in consideration for Make That Kid An Offer on "Recruiting 2021".
It's fun for me, because I get to sit there and see everyone pitch in, to let everybody else know about all of their student athletes around the State of Georgia.
- And Producers, Lori and Steve did some math from last year, and 12 of the Make That Kid An Offers, guys, "Make That Kid An Offer nominee, I should say.
Got scholarships, got offers, very exciting.
Don't miss the show, because Matt and Jon will talk more about that.
All right, let's move along.
We have a special kicker today.
- Yeah, we do.
- And then we're gonna get to some more comments.
So keep those rolling in.
- Okay.
- But I have a little announcement to make, Jon.
- It's not a little announcement.
- It's a double announcement!
- That.
- So, I am pregnant with twins!
(laughs) (Jon applauds) My husband, Jon and I are having twins.
It's our first babies.
There are our current dog babies.
The brown one is Jack, black and white one is Luna.
Those are our Boston terriers.
And we have twins coming Christmas, 2021.
So I'm all pink and embarrassed now.
But our first kids-- - And so are they apparently, from what you had 'em wear with those bandanas.
- They look horrified, don't they?
- Yes, they do!
- They're not excited.
- "Can you take these off of us now, please?"
- Yes.
- "Have we stood still long enough?
"Are we done yet?"
- They were really good, but Luna hates having her picture taken.
So it was a struggle.
- Yeah.
And so, no, obviously, congratulations to you and Jon.
And you noticed the due date on the graphic there.
- No, I was going to blur it out.
- Christmas, 2021.
- Championship babies.
So, if-- - [Jon] Championship babies!
- [Hannah] You don't see me on the airwaves during championships, we could have some early Christmas.
- [Jon] Just something to kind of keep in mind.
- Identical twin girls, so if you guys are-- - Oh, what are they-- Yeah.
What would you name them?
- What would you name them?
You can put that in the comment section.
But say a prayer for me if you're religious.
I'm gonna need it.
- Name Hannah's twins.
See, that's the ongoing storyline here too as well.
Name Hannah's twins.
- All right.
- As they come into the world as championship babies, championship twins here at GPB coming Christmas.
- I'm excited.
I'm excited.
Thanks guys for sticking with me.
- And she's also very pink in the face.
- Just wanted to warn you all.
- Yes.
- All right.
One more thing to check off the list before we get to those comments.
And that is, where you can find us on social media.
All of our media day interviews, all of these interviews Jon are doing, they're on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
If you subscribe to our YouTube page, you get an early viewing.
I edit a lot of these videos and I put them up on YouTube and I leave them public.
So it's a little secret.
If you want any early content, YouTube is where it's at, at GPB Sports on all of these.
- All right, so what's everybody saying before we go, other than what they're having for lunch?
- Okay, Jared Yelldell, his first prediction of the season.
He has to get that in.
"Brooks County, Coach Freeman pulls it out "35 to 26 in regulation."
Whew, thank you, Jared.
- It's gonna be a big one.
That's gonna be fantastic game.
- Austin AB Butler, "This year, Rome team "resembles the 16, 17, 18 team dominate Rome Wolves teams.
"They're a bit more deep.
"Believe it or not, very scary for others."
What are your thoughts on that?
- Yeah, Knox Caden, when you had Knox Caden at quarterback and you had the Andersons and the entire family that was involved there as well with cousins and such, the Griffin Clan, them Griffin boys, as we talked about back then.
I think that Jon Reed could be making another deep run.
And as you have these young talent that's gonna be there for a couple of years, could be solid talent, that's going to be a part of a growth curve over the next handful of years.
Looking forward to seeing Rome, and they were ranked, as you saw, on our Top 10.
- Thanks, everyone, for the congratulations.
That is so sweet.
Justin Cole Haley, "I'll be on the sidelines "for the South Georgia game of the week, "Brooks County versus Thomasville."
- Yeah.
- He is taking Thomasville.
- Once again, not a surprise.
With these two teams that are there, it is Brooks County in single A, Thomasville in AA.
Two heavyweights going at it.
Warner Robins, Valdosta, Trinity Christian, Athens Academy, Calcwood, Marietta, ELCA, Woodward, just a handful of them around the state too.
- All right, we got one more minute.
We wanted to tell you guys about some fun we're doing with our podcast.
We are putting it on video this year.
Jon will not be there next Monday, so he will be a fat head cardboard cutout.
It's going to be really funny.
You're not gonna want to miss the video version, that's on YouTube too.
So the podcast has been really fun this year.
- Yeah, it has.
We caught up with Jason Strickland from Ware County to catch up with him about football and way cross in a very tough region.
His quarterback, Thomas Castellanos, good stuff.
So, subscribe on your favorite podcast.
@gpb.org, or catch us on the YouTube channel.
- All right, podcast out, blogs are out.
We are out of time, so please catch us right back here next Thursday at noon.
That's Jon Nelson.
I'm Hannah Goodin.
And we don't have time to name all of our amazing crew members, but thank you, everyone-- - They're all amazing crew.
- Behind the cameras and in the control room.
We will see you on the sidelines this weekend, and right back here next week.
Bye, guys.
