I think that was beautiful.
Counting can be fun and tasty.
Let me show you.
We're going to make a cereal bracelet.
Oh, you'll see what it has to do with counting in a minute.
All you need is string, some oat ce real, you know the kind with little ho les in it -looks like donuts - don't use the sugar coated kind.
We'll also need some tape and a sp oon.
The first thing you do is measure the string.
Actually the first thing you do is wash your hands since you're working with food.
I've already done that so we can get started.
So after you've washed your hands the first thing you do is measure the string.
This is a ruler.
It measures up to twelve inches.
See?
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve.
Twelve inches is also a foot.
Then we cut the string.
Make sure you use either safety sc issors or have an adult cut the string for you.
Next I'm going to wrap a little piece of tape around one end of the string to make it look kind of pointy.
Then I'm going to tie one end of the string to the spoon.
Do you know why?
Well what would happen if I didn't tie it onto the spoon?
Let's see.
See the spoon will keep the cereal from slipping off the other end.
So I'll tie it.
Now it's simply a matter of threading the cereal onto the string.
Let's count as we go.
♪♪♪ Did you know you could count that high?
That is very good.
Thank you for trying.
Now I'm going to tie it off putting both ends together and very soon, [drum roll] very soon, [drum roll] very, very soon [drum roll] you've got a cereal bracelet.

(girl #2) Now, mom and dad, here's something just for you.
It's important for young children to be allowed to make choices.
When young children are allowed to make choices it sets the foundation for them to become responsible adults.
Making choices, for example, about what they will have for a snack - whether or not they will have an apple, or they're going to have an orange.
Making choices about what they wear, whether they're going to wear a dress today or pants.
One color socks versus another sock allows children to think about the options and to begin to problem solve.
It's important perhaps for parents to keep in mind that young children, they may need to help them limit their choices.
But the older child that has the cognitive or the thinking skills to consider multiple options at once, parents might not need to provide as much structure.
But in both situations it's important that the child has the opportunity to make decisions, to problem solve.
And again, it is important because it serves as the foundation for our kids becoming responsible problem solving, thinking adults.
Well, as it so often happens, we're out of time.
But before we go, a word for parents.
Remember children are learning all the time - whether we teach them or not.
Thanks for watching.
Have a wonderful day.
