Health officials estimate the omicron surge will peak in late January or early February.
"We’re not out of the woods yet, with this variant," said epidemiologist Dr. Stephanie Silvera of Montclair State University. State lab analyses show the omicron variant now dominates COVID-19 cases in New Jersey, comprising more than 76% of those sequenced. The rate of new hospitalizations related to COVID-19 has slowed considerably since back in December.
