NO SIGN OF AN EXODUS TO TWO OUTSIDE.
IT'S ALSO STEADY DURING JOHNSON'S FIRST 100 DAYS IN OFFICE.

>> IN THE PAST FOUR YEARS, THE DEPARTMENT HAS DROPPED IN SIZE BY ABOUT 11%, AS PART OF A NATIONWIDE STAFFING CRUNCH THAT HAS REALLY MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR LAW-ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO KEEP VETERAN OFFICERS ON THE FORCE AND TO HIRE NEW ONES.

HE SAYS HE WILL DO HIS BEST TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF MANAGEMENT OVER TIME AND CANCEL DAYS OFF IN ORDER TO HELP OFFICERS HAVE A BETTER WORK LIFE BALANCE.
HE WILL FACE A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT THOSE EFFORTS AS HE IS CONFIRMED BY THE CITY COUNCIL.

THIS LEAVES ABOUT 1700 VACANT POSITIONS IN THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT.
