(lively music) - The Annual Craft Lake City LetterWest event is the nation's leading hand lettering conference, featuring keynote speakers and workshops from top lettering artists, and Craft Lake City development director Sarah Allen is here, as well as Midvale City Mayor Marcus Stevenson.
Hey, Marcus.
Let's start with you.
So you are partnering with this and bringing it to Midvale.
Talk about the partnership and why you're bringing LetterWest to Midvale.
- Yeah, so for many years now, Midvale City has been working to turn our historic main street into an arts and culture district.
So we've brought in a mural festival and more recently, we've started partnering with Craft Lake City.
We did a little workshop last year, but we've been looking at how do we build on that relationship?
How do we bring in nationally and internationally known artists into Midvale City?
And so we're thankful that Craft Lake City is willing to partner with us and bringing LetterWest in where we're gonna have so many incredible artists right here in Midvale.
- Okay, great.
And Sarah, let's talk about hand lettering and the people who love it.
So talk about the conference.
It started small and you've got what?
300 attendees these days?
- Yeah, so the LetterWest Conference originally started in 2017 and it was with Becca, who is from Utah.
And this is a conference and it was kind of put on hold during COVID and we're bringing it back.
And so Craft Lake City is really excited to be putting on this event and hosting it, and it's a one-day event on March 2nd, and we hope it continues to expand and evolve and it's really neat.
So we say it's a conference for people who love hand lettering, but when you actually look around, lettering is in kind of almost everything, whether it's signage, murals, even for tattoos.
Lettering is a lot of part of our culture.
So we have people coming from all around the world to lead workshops and also a panel discussion.
So it's really exciting to have artists coming in from the UK, from Colombia and from Utah.
- I mean, it's huge, and they're all coming to Midvale.
Anyway, thank you both for being here.
Thank you.
- Thank you.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about LetterWest, which is for people who love lettering, it's March 2nd, 9AM to 7 PM at the Midvale Main Arts & Culture District.
