(upbeat music) - PBS Utah and Craft Lake City are joining forces for some fun workshops in 2024.
Artist Linda Bergstrom is here to tell us more about an upcoming weaving workshop on March 14th.
Hi, Linda.
- Hi, Mary.
- Okay, this is gonna be a lot of fun.
And you're basically teaching people how to weave using sustainable materials.
- [Linda] That's correct.
- Which you know all about.
- Yes.
- So tell us why you're teaching the workshop.
- So I've been an art teacher for about 20 years, and I was able to stop teaching art and have a fiber farm out in Bluffdale, Utah.
So I grow yarn, and so, (Mary and Linda laughing) I like to take the difficulty out of weaving and make it simple and sustainable for people.
So at the class, they'll be making a weaving about this size, maybe a little bit bigger, and there will be lots of different yarn available, things that you might throw away at your house that you think, "Oh, I've got a big pile of yarn."
But also, I'll be bringing yarn from my animals.
This right here is from my goats.
I have alpacas, goats and sheep, And we want to do it on a sustainable little cardboard loom.
Look how easy that is.
- Oh, yeah.
- I mean, you can't mess this up.
- Oh, yeah.
(Linda laughing) - So everyone's got a box laying around, right?
- Right.
- So we literally just weave a wall hanging onto this, and it's one of the most sustainable crafts that you can do.
So it's gonna be really fun.
- That's great, and people will get to use some of the yarn that you grow.
- Exactly, exactly.
I'll bring some of my yarn from my animals and Craft Lake City will be bringing a lot of extras.
They have things that could end up in the, we don't want that yarn in the landfill.
Especially acrylic yarn, We want to have that and use it.
So this is a way to use up extra yarn that you might have, so.
- And it's going to be right here at the Eccles Broadcast Center.
- Exactly, mm-hmm.
- And but you do need a ticket.
- Right.
So Craft Lake City, you can get on Craft Lake City and get your tickets through them, and it's great to team up with them and PBS as well, so.
- That's great.
Well, it's gonna be a lot of fun.
Thank you so much for being here and for bringing that - You're welcome.
Of course.
- Good luck growing yarn.
- (laughing) Yeah, thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming workshop with Craft Lake City and PBS Utah, it's the Woven Wall Hanging Workshop, March 14th from 6:00 to 8:30 right here at the Eccles Broadcast Center.
