[Music] for me cultural responsiveness first right it embodies that sense again of how do I respond to this culture right how do I if I'm practicing this culture right how do I learn a Nuance sense of practice how do I continue right to endure the practices if they are appropriate right and then if they're not how do I fix that now when you get into the Academia side of things right now how do you embed that culture culture right into that instruction right so that that student then can respond appropriately to that academic material you know instruction that they're being taught I think a big piece of this this uh instruction that you bring about is this idea of understanding that I am the teacher but I am not necessarily the end all Beall right it's important for uh again a teacher that doesn't look like they're students or vice versa it's important for all of us kind of just to learn from each other other I need to learn from my students just as much as I'm teaching them and so for me cultural responsive instruction has that embeded within it without that authentic relationship right you sometimes get lost in you know this this this business transaction right when when you when you know your students when you get a real feel of who they are and vice versa it's not so much of a business transaction than it is I'm trying to help you learn and you're learning this material and you're doing the same for me right and so now it becomes a more of a uh a relationship if you will an authentic relationship visit us online at ideast stream.org slw welcome for more web extras links to resources and to watch the documentary you are welcome creating safe and supportive schools a production of idea stream public media
