(bright music) - Dahlia's Hope is holding its Fourth Annual Restoring Hope Gala, benefiting the survivors of trafficking.
And here to tell us more about this year's important event, Cherstyn Stockwell and Ashlee.
Hi, Cherstyn, let's start with you as a founder.
So tell us about Dahlia's Hope and what you do.
- You bet.
So in 2017, my husband and I met a trafficking survivor and she taught us, there's virtually no post emergent care for trafficking survivor.
So after an ER visit or a short stay in a shelter or a rehab, there's no continuing care.
She tried really hard to piece together anything that she could.
So Dahlia's Hope is inspired by this survivor.
She has gone on to receive every single service that we offer, but more importantly to her, more than 70 survivors now have received full wraparound services at Dahlia's Hope.
There is a big emphasis on rescue organizations and where we are very grateful for them.
What many people don't understand is that 80% of those victims return to trafficking.
There is no plan.
They don't have a way to earn a living.
They need healing.
So Dahlia's Hope is very different.
We keep survivors out of trafficking.
- Wonderful.
- Yeah, in the last five years, we've created an organization that fills in the missing pieces.
So clinical therapy, life skills training, education, medical and dental services, housing solutions, so that people like Ashlee here can heal.
- Okay.
- And Ashlee?
- So I am Ashlee.
I'm a survivor of trafficking.
I was introduced to and benefited greatly from the substantial and vital like sources at Dahlia's Hope.
I had no idea what trafficking was necessarily, or that it had different forms of it, different definitions.
So I wasn't aware that I was in that situation.
I know I was in a toxic situation, but wasn't aware of the depth of it.
My therapist who knew everything, she knew every detail, was the one who helped me understand the definitions of trafficking.
- [Mary] All right.
- It took me a long time to get out and to get away.
- Okay, okay.
And I know you have a big gala coming up, and I'll let people know about that.
But thank you both for what you do, and for your bravery.
Thank you.
- Thank you so much.
Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about Dahlia's Hope and everything they provide, or if you're interested in helping by attending the Fourth Annual Restoring Hope Gala, it is October 24th at seven o'clock at the City Creek Marriott.
