- [Dan Brown] Living in that cafe The only ones without a mesa.
It's just a little less world to get between us.
Ohhh!
- [Neal McCarthy] Well four boats flooded.
It's five fourths full and the quarter won't take your well.
And you have to fold two threes and nines and the bluff has left you bare.
When the river turns the 11 hard sun spot on.
- [Dan Brown] If you take it away, then I have nothing.
I did this to myself.
Now that must mean something.
Ooooooooo, ooooooooooo, ooooooooooo ooooo OOooooo oooooo I read the front page.
It really has perspective.
I should act my age.
But you sound so subjective and you came took away my heart that day and I can't hide The fact that you saw and you hacked to my veins it felt strange.
The chemicals looked in my brain.
Tell me too, to I love you.
It wasn't true.
You always knew didn't you, didn't you, didn't you, didn't you I let out all on my rage.
Scared all my friends away.
You should have stayed in my cage.
I wanna have some fun today.
The games we played our way.
Demons we have sprouted.
This should have changed my mind.
I find it harder times.
ooh Ooh.
Ooh.
And you came and took away my heart that day and I can't hide the fact that you saw you hacked into my veins felt strange.
The chemicals went to my brain and told me too.
To all you.
It wasn't true.
You always knew to, didn't you didn't you, didn't you, didn't you Didn't you, didn't you, didn't you didn't you [soft guitar strums] - Hi, my name's Dan Brown.
I'm from Rhode Island and I play some punk music and acoustics sometimes.
Front page.
That song was written probably 2016.
It was for a songwriting competition at a news cafe in Paw tucket.
It was really cool to go those open mics cause I was hosting some of them and they really pushed me to start writing songs weekly which sometimes I wouldn't normally do.
And that song is totally about the News Cafe and what I thought about it and how much I enjoy the appreciation and support of local people coming to shows and the owner being really hospitable and stuff like that.
- [Interviewer] What was that like back then?
You know, gimme a little sense of the atmosphere of what when you wrote that song, what was it like being there?
- Oh man.
I was like working really late and rushing there to get on the list to play at the open mic.
Just so I'd be able to have the, the chance to um write a new song or be able to have someone listen to it.
And it was quite wild back then, you know?
It was a lot of fun for me.
[guitar Strums] Living in that cafe the only ones without a Mesa.
It's just a little less world to get between Us.
Oh, every word is a little unstable.
I drove away Listen to radio.
It plays that same old song.
I quickly jump familiar Down and found out you belong with me.
With Me With Me.
I think I finally know the words to that song you sing.
The same song you hear every day.
It's a tune that Rhode Island king, Rhode Island King, Rhode Island King, Rhode Island King, Rhode Island King Tuned out Rhode Island King, Tuned out Rhode Island King, Tuned out Rhode Island King, Tuned out Rhode Island King.
Laughing in that cafe the one one without a table It's just a little less world to get between us.
Oh, every word is a little unstable I drove away.
Listening to the radio plays that same ol' song.
I quit Picture, familiar Down and found out You belong with me, with me With Me.
I think finally know the words to that song you sing.
The same song you hear every day it's a tune that Rhode Island King Rhode Island King Rhode Island King Rhode Island King Rhode Island King Rhode Island King Tuned out Rhode Island King Tuned out Rhode Island King Tuned out Rhode Island King Tuned out Rhode Island King King King ing ing [guitar Strums] "Tuned Out" That was written in Florida actually which was kind of a wild time.
I had lived in Rhode Island my whole life and decided to just take a trip and I moved down to Florida started working as a chef in a restaurant met some cool people and it was just a cool time down there.
And someone had wrote some lyrics that I had taken and wrote some guitar to and I thought it was a really good song.
And a lot of people at the shows and at the open mics like to sing some of those parts with me.
And that's kind of cool a little bit, you know - What's it about?
- Meeting with someone at a certain place and nothing can get in the way.
Not even a table, you know what I mean?
Like it was just the, the right time and just driving away and being joyful of the situation and the conversations that you could have.
- Why were you in Florida?
I'm just curious.
- I moved down there to work and just really just changed up life.
I lived in Naples, Florida.
It was like such a change from Rhode Island, you know like just young, mid twenties, you know I mean just had to get outta here for a little bit.
And I stayed down there and I, I was cooking I worked with like some fun people and stuff like that.
I met some famous actors and whatnot and it just really like had time to sit on the porch and like play music cuz the weather was nice.
24 7.
I got outta work at like midnight from cooking.
I go right down the beach, just chill and play music and it was a really good time.
It was a fun time in my life.
[guitar strums] - I open my window for the first time today I see the people but I do not have a word to say I'm used to the darkness it makes me feel okay.
I'm sure you used to the way that I feel but I don't feel today.
Hey Hey Today I've been saving up change is coming my way I've been saving up change Is it coming, My way Oh, my way oh, my way oh, coming my way oh If you knew this is happening to me why you you let it be let it be if you knew this is happening to me why would you let it be let it be.
If you knew this is happening to me.
Why would you let it be let it be.
If you knew this is happening to me.
Why would you let it be let it be.
I've been saving up change, is it coming my way.
I've been saving up change, it's coming my way.
Coming my way.
My way coming my way [soft guitar strums] - I would say that my mother was huge into playing music and doing funny dances and, and like really getting me into what it was.
You know, buy me records and stuff when I was a younger younger kid to CDs and tapes, you know, and really just always listening to music.
Always having that around to growing up with musicians around his friends.
That's what really changed it was that my grandma had gifted me a a guitar when I was about 13 and I didn't really play it, I didn't really get into it but man, about 15 I was like all of a sudden like guitar maniac and if I, you know I took that to my basement to shows in my house to friends' houses playing to shows.
It was a progression that definitely happened on purpose.
I think.
[country guitar strums] [violin Strums] [Music Continues] - [Neal McCarthy] As we rolled up, to Fennario As we rolled out to Fennario Our captain fell in love with a lady like a dove and he called her by name Pretty Peggy-o Will you marry me?
Pretty Peggy-O Will you marry me, Pretty Peggy-O?
If you will marry me I will set your city free and free all the people in the are-o [Violin Plays] I will marry you, Sweet William - O I will marry you, Sweet William - O Cause I will marry you but your pennies are too few and I fell my mama would be angry - oh What would yo mama think?
Pretty Peggy - O Would yo mama think Pretty Peggy - O Would yo mama think, if she heard my pennies clink and saw me marching at the head of my soldiers - Oh [Violin Strums] [Guitar Swells] [Violin Continues] [Music Continues] I'm stepping down the stairs Pretty Peggy- O I'm stepping down the stairs Pretty Peggy - O Stepping down the stairs Combing back your yellow hair Bid last farewell to your William- O If ever I return Pretty Peggy- O If ever I return, Pretty Peggy- O.
If ever I return, the cities I would burn destroy all the people in the are -Oh We rolled down to Fennario As well rolled down to Fennario.
Captain fell in love with lady like a dove.
Called her by name Pretty Peggy- O Called her by name Pretty Peggy - O - You know you start strumming some chords [Guitar Strums] You know ones that sound nice you know and then you, you just start humming something [Humming] You know and then if you like it you start scribbling some words you know, I try not to be too critical of myself but I think that's something that every person that makes anything, you know I'm not making any new forms of music, you know it's folk music, it's country music, it's blues music it's just really a tradition that just keeps going you know 1, 4, 5 is good enough for me [Guitar Strums] One kind of favor to ask you One kind of favor to ask you One kind of favor to ask you.
See that my grave is kept clean.
[Folk Violin] Ever hear that church bell call.
Ever heard that church bell call.
You ever hear that church bell call.
You know that I'll be dead and gone.
[Violin Playing Folk Song] [Violin Continues] One kind favor for me.
One kinda favor to ask you.
I got one kinda favor to ask of you.
You see that my grave is kept clean.
You hear that church bell call.
You hear that church bell call.
You ever hear that church bell call.
Then you know that I'll be dead and gone.
One kind favor to ask of you.
One kind favor to ask of you.
One kind favor, one to ask of you.
You see that my grave is kept clean.
You see that my grave is kept clean.
You see that my grave is kept clean.
[Violin Continues] - It occurred to me one day that there's 52 cards in the deck and 52 weeks in a year.
And I was waiting for someone to tell me that wasn't the case or to think why that wasn't a song yet.
So I have to get up a scribble, you know make a real simple sort of countryish folk tune and it all just sort of came out pretty quickly you know there's not much to it but that 52 weeks and 52 cards was kinda I thought someone has to do it why not me?
[Music Begin] Fifty two weeks, Fifty two cards.
Diamonds in the springtime, and your hearts in the fall.
Queen of Spades are rain, you just can't play them all.
When the suicide King surprised you, winter down the hall.
Join the club Jack misery, your summers coming soon.
Ace flush straight against you as you walk into the room.
To fifty-two pick up game of chance you scour across the floor.
Fifty-one weeks before you were jokers, suits, and all.
Fifty-two weeks, fifty-two cards.
Time wasting, when life is hard.
Fix the leaks, Right on board.
You could only double down for just so long.
Have Jack on lucky 7 time, you won't see no snake eye fly.
Black jack on a leap year or Christmas in July.
Shuffle leaves into November, you wash and cut the deck.
When the 8's look like forever just expect no respect.
Don't bet the weather in New England.
Split the tens on a Full Moon.
You never know what hit ya these cards don't suffer fool.
You're the one eyed jack o' lantern, you're the Mayday Ace of Spades.
And the King of Diamonds cut you, in the middle of the play.
Fifty-two weeks, fifty-two cards.
Time a wasting, when life is hard.
It's the beats right on pawn.
You can only double down for just so long.
[Violin Plays] [Music Continues] Well your four boats flooded, it's five fourths full and quarter won't take you well.
And you have to fold two 3s and 9s and the bluff has left you bare.
When the river turns the 11 of hearts, sun spots on the eve.
Of the equinox, when Larry drops a million thirty half past tea.
Calculate pie and get your moneys straight.
Deuces will drive you mad and 21 over multiple by half bad.
You can leave them in you can take them out give your best guest some war.
Well you're into change and you're feeling strange.
Over truth and horn.
Fifty- two weeks, fifty-two cards.
Time wasting, when life is hard.
Fits to be right on par.
You can only double down for just so long.
Fifty- two weeks, fifty-two cards.
Time wasting, when life is hard.
Fits to be right on par.
You can only double down for just so long.
You can only double down for just so long.
You can only double down for just so long.
