So they're both just kind of moments of me in the grieving process and trying to, you know, figure out what my life meant at that point.
And "I Don't Know If I'll Stick Around" is very much, I was still in the relationship and asking myself those questions of like, is this really what I wanna keep doing, you know, 'cause we're white knuckling it at this point, and like, if we're gonna do it, it's gonna be work.
And basically, just big, big choices need to be made, and "By Now" is just kind of about, you know, when you start to feel better after a breakup, and then you'll have a really bad day and it'll hit you again kind of out of left field and you're like, I thought I was through this, but it's so nonlinear.
So, I hope to give people what music has given me which is just, I guess it's different for every song, right?
Like if it's a breakup song, I want people to feel comforted and feel like they're not alone and that somebody has been through what they've been through and survived it.
And, you know.
But depending on the song, I want people to feel happy or like empowered or, you know, just if I'm giving somebody goose bumps or making them tear up, that's like the best compliment.
It's cool to say that I've got a great relationship with my brother, and it's even cooler to say that, you know, he plays guitar in my band and he likes my music enough to support it in that huge way.
- Yeah, I would say a couple of things.
One would be, there's just familiarity.
Like they say that your band is your family, but like it really is your family and, I don't know, we have more leeway to just go at each other's throats.
And, you know, I like getting in the studio with her.
Her songs are great and yeah, I couldn't be more proud and like, privileged to be involved.
("Don't Know If I'll Stick Around") I called my mother at midnight Said I'm out on a wire Can't make decisions to save my life Could you show me how I called him up on a Friday Said I wanna go dancing You called me back on a Monday once all the bars were closed But it's okay No, I can't complain Got a good thing going now But one of these days If the feelings change I don't know if I'll stay Don't know if I'll stick around I told you off in the morning Just to come back crying Oh what I want what I need I can't discern a damn thing But I try my best to be happy I try so hard to be what you need And I just wanna be everything and I fall so short But it's okay No, I can't complain Got a good thing going now But one of these days if the feelings change Don't know if I'll stay Don't know if I'll stick around And don't take this the wrong way But babe Some days you're just dead weight And I lov you all the same It's just too much to carry And don't take this th wrong way But babe Some days you're just dead weight And I love you all the same It's just too much to carry But it's okay No I can't complain Got a good thing going now But one of these days I'm gonna pack my things Gonna leave this place Don't know if I'll stick Okay, I hate everything Got a good thing going down But one of these days Gonna pack my things Gonna leave this place Don't know if I'll stick around
