More than one year after three watchdog reports on Washington's prisons were drafted, their findings remain unreleased.
These state investigations were paid for with tax dollars, but the results are so secret that when Crosscut obtained copies of the reports through a public records request, they were almost completely redacted making it impossible to know what information they contain.
We only know the topics of the investigations.
One reviews the use of emergency restraints on incarcerated people.
Another examines medical accommodations for those inside where inadequate healthcare can be a life or death concern.
The third report looks at the use of disciplinary programs inside the correctional facilities.
When asked about the reports, Governor Inslee vowed to try to get answers on the unpublished documents.
