Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- My name is Ciel Haas, and I play the piano.
(intense piano music) I played Chopin's Revolutionary Etude in the C Minor.
It portrays Chopin's emotions during the Polish Revolution of 1831.
(intense piano music) The piece is very emotional, and it makes it really fun to play.
The section with all the cords in the right hand and the broken arpeggios in the left hand was really hard to master because the musicality in the right hand was just far beyond my level when I started this piece.
And the left hand also has to keep up, technically.
The tempo is also really fast which is very hard.
(intense piano music) I come from a musical family.
My father is a conductor, and my mother played violin professionally.
I started out playing the cello, but I don't know, something about the piano was always just very interesting to me.
It started out a lot easier than the cello.
You don't have to worry about intonation and the sound quality as much, but as you get higher and higher up in level, it becomes more challenging, I think.
And that's, that was very nice for me.
(intense piano music) My piano teacher, Janara Khassenova, nominated me for this.
I would like to thank my teacher, my piano teacher, for helping me along with this piece and helping me understand the meaning of this piece.
And I would like to thank my parents for helping me be more musically aware of this piece.
(intense piano music concludes)
