Hello Aylo-eli.
We spent probably 20 hours or so hashing out should he go, should he not go?
What would our finances look like?
What would it look like if he was there for 15 months?
What would that look like for me and for my daughter?
What would that look like for him?
Looking at our baby, Ayla, and thinking about all the children here that we have to protect, I don't know if it was even a choice for me to stay in America.
I had to go because I have friends here that I served with who were killed on the October 7 attack on our bases.
And I know many families who have had family members killed or taken hostage or injured by rocket attacks.
When Eli drove me to the airport when I got out of the car, you know, I hugged Eli and we exchanged some words of support.
And then I just spent a long time hugging and kissing my daughter Ayla.
It's very rare that you see anyone in this hotel that is a full and complete family.
Everyone you see, you know, has someone who has been taken hostage or is right now in a hospital, you know, overcoming injuries.
You know I am a medic because I believe that at the end of the day, the last thing that you can do that is always absolutely right is you can save lives.
We go outside?
We go for a walk?
Yeah, we get fresh air.
Trauma is not unique to the soldier who's there but its also the family who goes through it with them.
And it could even be that there's more fear on the family's side than on the soldiers side, because we're not there.
We can't see what's happening.
We just see the media and we hear things.
There still is that fear that and it's not irrational either: What would my life look like if my husband wasn't here?
And that's something that him and I talk about relatively often is the reason that he married me is for my independence and that he trusts me to raise our children in no matter what situation we're in.
I dont know how long I will stay.
What I do know is that Im definitely going to stay as long as Im needed.
And a lot of it's because I don't think I'm just protecting the people who live here in Israel.
I know I'm also protecting the livelihood and the well-being you know, of communities around the world of Jews and Israelis.
Put it up.
Ta-da!
Somebody anti-semitically said to me, “I hope your husband comes home in a coffin.
” And I said to them, “I am so sorry that you live with so much hatred in your heart and I pray for you.
I wish you well and I wish you safety.
I hope you and your family are safe.
” Because I don't live with that hatred in my heart because there's no price tag on the value of human life.
That's not up for debate.
People want to delve into the politics like, “Oh, well, you bombed Gaza and killed all these innocent people and Gaza bombed Israelis.
” On both sides those lives are valuable.
And that's really the message that I've been trying to portray and remind myself and speak within my community about, within my family.
That's what's important is connecting with each other on a real level during this time and allowing this to move us forward as people and, and to stop this division that we have.
You know, it's not Jews and Christians, Jews, Muslims and Christians.
It doesn't matter who you are.
You want to say hello to Ayla again?

At the end of the day, we're all people searching for what is meaningful to us.
So nice.
