I'm Derek Pritzl.

The junkyard roads, that was just, I got the chorus and a junkyard road, and then it was just building it around that from my past, like all the places in the first verse, paradise, I lived there.
♪ See, I've been to paradise ♪ ♪ I left all my skeletons there ♪ ♪ I got myself Rocky Mountain high ♪ ♪ The smell was in the air ♪ The second verse is just another version of, so what our country looked like, you know, going through the Rust Belt, all the places falling apart.
♪ Some were old memories ♪ ♪ And others stripped for parts ♪ ♪ Some were speeding caskets ♪ ♪ And, well, brand-new starts ♪ And then that stop is the junkyard, and I'm walking through the Buicks and these rotted-out Fords.
So still passing through.
The thing I like about songwriting, you can put a chorus on there, and now you have hope that, I've done all this, it sucks, but there is something out there worth living for, worth getting outside of your comfort element and finding.
♪ There's a life worth living ♪ ♪ Out on ♪ ♪ Junkyard roads ♪
