>> we are not just opening another section of the river walk, but we are witnessing the completion of a bold vision.
this started with us in two thousand, two, two thousand, three, but we're standing on the shoulders of a lot of folks that came before us that had visions for the riverfront original vision, three and a half miles of of perpetual public access lake park's the entire way.
so that would transform our community.
so that would transform economic development in the entire area.
and we're really excited that we've been will pull together.
the entire city is going to connect to the riverfront and develop, which is incredible.
>> my generation, my father's generation growing up in detroit.
we didn't have a riverfront.
detroit's riverfront belong to factories and warehouses and cement silos.
and with the ribbon cutting today, it's an historic day because now therefore the front truly belongs to the people of this city.
