Barton Mitchell discovered General Lee's plans for the Battle of Antietam.

Little known history of Barton Mitchell, a corporal from Bartholomew County, who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Mitchell discovered General Robert E. Lee's plans (known as Special Order #191), which revealed the Confederate plans for the Battle of Antietam -- which became a Union victory because of the discovery and helped the North to win the Civil War.
