Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipShe's known around the world for her singing and her philanthropy.
Last night, the queen of country herself made a stop right here in the Bluegrass.
Dolly Parton wasn't here to sing, although she did.
Instead, she helped Governor Andy Beshear and first lady celebrate a major milestone for her charity, The Imagination Library, which provides free books to children every month up to age five.
And although we had no money, I was rich as I could be in my coat of many colors.
Mama made for me.
But they didn't understand it.
And I tried to make them see that one is only poor, only if they choose to be.
She is a role model and an inspiration not only for kids in her home state of Tennessee, in our state of Kentucky, but for the parents and the adults out there who have grown up knowing who she is.
I'm so excited to be here because you know why we're here.
We're going to roll out the Imagination Library in all of Kentucky.
Because a Dolly Parton, more than 120,000 Kentucky kids, 45% of preschoolers in our state, are currently enrolled in the Imagination Library.
Some of Andy's and my very favorite memories are reading with our own children, Will and Lila, when they were younger.
Thanks to Dolly, every family can have that special memory too.
And try our best to bring these great.
One of the things that we have always felt as our family is that you are put on this earth to do something to make the world better.
And I want to say, Kentucky says to you, Dolly, you have done it.
You never think about how much or how many.
Like I said at the time, I was just wanting to do something, going for my daddy and something that I could be involved in with my dad.
And I thought, well, maybe if it does good here in Severe County, they're like, Imagine maybe, you know, one of the counties around.
But boy, it just caught on.
I think it was meant to be.
And it just makes me feel very simple.
It's easy.
It's not just it's not for poor people.
It is for poor people, but it's for all people because I'll always be a singer songwriter.
But I just hope people will just say she was a good old girl, you know, She she tried hard, She worked hard, and she tried to make the world a better place and try to make people happy.
And I will be doing that to actually Akeelah, where you.
Never really know if you don't babies and.
And thank you to hear that she doesn't have to go.
God bless you.
Thank you, Mrs..
I You got to love Dolly.
Well, Governor Beshear also awarded Dolly with the designation of a Kentucky colonel during the event.
